Names you can shorten to Annie

We love the name Annie, but can’t seem to land on which ‘full name’ we like best - would love to get some ideas!

Annabel - current fave, but 2yo has a Baby Annabell who is very important to her, and not sure if this would be weird (admittedly it’s a short-term issue though, so not sure if I’m overthinking this!)

Anastasia - like this, but not sure if it’s a bit rogue if you don’t have any Russian / Eastern European heritage?

Anna - I like, but husband not keen

Annalise - we both quite like, but husband says it reminds him of Annalise Dodd

Any thoughts on these or other ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Annabeth.

(FYI I've never met an Antigone who wasn't shortened to Tiggy. I don't think Annie is a nickname for Antigone)

I've never heard of an Antigoth at all tbh. My friend is Annie and she's knocking on 60 so perfectly fine as an adult name. If you use another " long" name it may not get shortened to Annie. For example Annabel couldn't up Bella etc

MynameisAnnie · 25/08/2023 11:47

I have changed my username, but as my new username says my name is Annie

Its not short for anything - just Annie.

I'm in my 40s now and I love it. I work in a professional career and its not too "cute-sy" .
I think these days your name doesn't determine if you are professional or not.

The only issue is - and has happened on this thread - when I introduce myself to someone they always say "Oh, my great aunt/gran grandmother was called Annie" 😁
And I refuse to be called Aunty Annie, I feel about 102.

My niece is Annie and get full name is Anouska. And my Aunty is Annie and her full name is Anne-Marie xx

MNTourist · 25/08/2023 11:58

Just Annie works fine for me, do you have any middle names in mind?

ItIsWhatWell · 25/08/2023 12:03

Is it just Annie? Would Anna work?

Savannah and then shorten to Anna if you wanted?

Scaryghost · 25/08/2023 12:05

Why do you have to have it as a shortened name? If you like Annie just use it.
I do like Anastasia and Annabelle though

Scaryghost · 25/08/2023 12:06

Although Anastasia may get shortened to Starsi when she’s older by friends

SparkyBlue · 25/08/2023 12:22

I'd go with Anne or Anna and then nn Annie. All beautiful names

yikesanotherbooboo · 25/08/2023 12:28

Annies I have known have been Ann or Anne. It could be a dim. for any An name; Annabel, Anastasia, Angela, Anamaria etc but I don't think it is needed.

Anouk
Anya
Antonia
Angelica

Iheartbobross · 25/08/2023 12:39

Howabout a dual-name? Like Mary-Anne or similar? I'd have thought anything ending in Anne could be Annie informally.

I know a little Aniela who goes by Annie too

Happiestinmygarden · 25/08/2023 14:01

Annabelle is lovely. I know a few and never associate it with a doll, I think that would be a v short term issue and only if you prefix her name with ‘baby’ when you’re talking about her. Annie is a nice shortened form but could also go with Anna, Belle or Bella if she prefers it when she’s older

dancingdiva12 · 25/08/2023 15:14

What about Aniko? It’s Hungarian form of Anne/Anna.

Themintwiththehole · 25/08/2023 15:23

Annika?

Notbridezilla · 25/08/2023 15:31

My name is Anita and all my family call me Annie ;) I like both but like to be known by my ‘grown up’ name by work and friends - it’s only the people who’ve known me all my life who use Annie.

gogomoto · 25/08/2023 15:35

I'm an Annie. My kids never owned that doll!

urbanbuddha · 25/08/2023 15:36

Annie, but give her a middle name like Catherine or Marina.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 25/08/2023 15:38

I know an Anya called Annie

Anotheranonymousname · 25/08/2023 15:40

Annie is lovely as is.

MumblesParty · 25/08/2023 15:43

You should call your child Annie. The problem with picking a name and then always using an abbreviation, is that the child grows up constantly being given an unfamiliar name in official situations - school, hospital, work etc. So it’s better to call them by the abbreviation on their birth certificate. Like Tim instead of Timothy, or Ben instead of Benjamin.

Wish I had an edit button too to correct all those mistakes in my pp!

@Bbq1 you can now edit posts, but only if you do it quickly
