What do you think of Fyfe?

My husband and I thought we had settled on Kit, but we are starting to have doubts.

We would like something unusual, our dd is named after my granny, and she will probably be the only one in her school year.

My husband is Dan and he likes his name but dislikes that there are 5 other dans in his friendship group, so they all go by their surnames.

My name is also uncommon, I don’t think I have ever met another one of me, although I’m hearing the name more now than previously.

Other boys names we liked were;
Kipp
Rafe
Ari
Keir

But the more I think about it the more I’m drawn to Fyfe. My husbands family is also Scottish so I quite like that link, especially as DD is named after someone from my side of the family.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

How do you pronounce it? As in Fife?

Bumblebeesmum · 25/04/2019 23:19

I like Keir & Rafe

Etino · 25/04/2019 23:19

🍌
Biscuit

AuntieStella · 25/04/2019 23:20

Fyffe wouid make me think oranges or bananas, not Scotland

Kit is a lovely name, Rafe wouid be second choice from your list.

Aprilladvised · 25/04/2019 23:21

Bananas!

Babdoc · 25/04/2019 23:23

Fyffe is bananas! Fife is the Scottish county.

NorthernRunner · 25/04/2019 23:27

Fife is half and hour away from me, never heard of it for a child's name.

NorthernRunner · 25/04/2019 23:27

Foof

BentBaastard · 25/04/2019 23:28

No

Not good

TheBulb · 25/04/2019 23:30

Fyffe times better than your average banana.

My other association is Orange Order marches.

englishdictionary · 25/04/2019 23:30

No. Doesn’t matter how you spell it, it will always ave the banana connection.

MrsBungle · 25/04/2019 23:30

I’m
Scottish. Never heard of Fife as a name. Keir is a great name.

MercyBodle · 25/04/2019 23:48

I really like Fife. It goes with the territory that if you ask on here about any very unusual name that many people will dislike it. I've noticed that anything a bit out of the ordinary gets a strong negative response.

I also like Kit but suspect it will become more popular. I love Kipp, Rafe and Keir. Ari, and similar sounds such as Arlo, and Aria/Arya in girls, feels much more popular, and quite different in style to your other names.

LordoftheRinse · 25/04/2019 23:49

I really like Kipp

FleurNancy · 25/04/2019 23:52

Bananas.

Kit is just lovely. Also love Rafe.

DameSylvieKrin · 25/04/2019 23:54

Kit is a wonderful name. Fife won’t be recognised by most people as a name.

Whoops75 · 25/04/2019 23:58

Kipp is a nap where I live.

Kit is ok

Rafe gets my vote

Pottytoes · 26/04/2019 00:04

Fyfe Dangerfield from the band the Guillemottes.
I quite lime it. Keir is lovely too

FredaFox · 26/04/2019 00:06

Sorry instantly thought of 🍌 and the town

Mssngvwls · 26/04/2019 00:09

Fife is great! It's so good, I even live there! Wink

llangennith · 26/04/2019 00:13

Ffyfe bananas. Kit is nice if a bit too popular now.

englishdictionary · 26/04/2019 00:50

Fife is not a town it's a county.

Would be like calling your child Yorkshire or Bedfordshire.

byteme1011 · 26/04/2019 00:55

As someone who lives in Fife, this made me laugh. Please don't call your your child Fife, anyone he meets from Fife will never take him seriously/or you
