What do you think of Fyfe?

My husband and I thought we had settled on Kit, but we are starting to have doubts.

We would like something unusual, our dd is named after my granny, and she will probably be the only one in her school year.

My husband is Dan and he likes his name but dislikes that there are 5 other dans in his friendship group, so they all go by their surnames.

My name is also uncommon, I don’t think I have ever met another one of me, although I’m hearing the name more now than previously.

Other boys names we liked were;
Kipp
Rafe
Ari
Keir

But the more I think about it the more I’m drawn to Fyfe. My husbands family is also Scottish so I quite like that link, especially as DD is named after someone from my side of the family.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

If you want something Scottish but more modern I would suggest Lewis, Harris or even some variation of Arran. (Fife isn't that appealing as an area and the music made by the pipe isn't great either.)

Cannyhandleit · 26/04/2019 14:25

I find Fife very appealing as an area Wink@dreichuplands

Quintella · 26/04/2019 14:29

I know three brothers called Tavish, Sholto, and Hamish. They're certainly not from Fife Grin

dreichuplands · 26/04/2019 14:29

Sorry, I'm sure parts of it are lovely.
I'm just a highland and islands woman 😉.

Cannyhandleit · 26/04/2019 14:32

Haha the highland and islands are definitely more scenic

AudacityOfHope · 26/04/2019 14:41

Fife isn't appealing. Erm, ok!

Lewis and Arran are not modern either.

dreichuplands · 26/04/2019 14:46

Okay sorry for offending all the people in Fife, (the shame.)
It isn't always associated with the most scenic areas of Scotland and if you don't have connections with Scotland you might not realize that.
I'll try to stop offending citizens of Fife now.

smurfy2015 · 26/04/2019 14:50

My first thought is "Fyfe bananas first and finest, bananas like these don't grow on trees"

Kit is nice so is Rafe

gauntletthrown · 26/04/2019 14:56

I'd immediately think Dangerfield - great musician!

NorthernRunner · 26/04/2019 15:02

Husband has ruled out Rafe. He said it sounds like a posh boys name.

We are down to Kit James, Fyfe James, Keir James.

“No because Fife is a county”

As is Moray and Angus (and, at a push, Ross) but they’re totally acceptable. Go for it if you want.

Macaroonmayhem · 26/04/2019 15:23

And yes, Fife isn’t appealing...

What do you think of Fyfe?
2cupsofcoffee · 26/04/2019 15:25

Yes, my first thought was 'bananas'

NorthernRunner · 26/04/2019 15:47

Husband family lives in Glenrothes maybe we should go with that Grin

Any Scottish person you meet will probably think it's ridiculous. "Here's my son Fyffe and my daughter, Lanarkshire"

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 26/04/2019 15:56

I’m Scottish and I think it’s great

Cannyhandleit · 26/04/2019 15:57

Yup, Scottish, from Fife, love it!

AudacityOfHope · 26/04/2019 16:12

Fife is pure horrible Grin

What do you think of Fyfe?
Macaroonmayhem · 26/04/2019 16:17

northern Glenrothes is a rich source of names, lots to choose from there - Glenwood, Rimbleton, Warout ...Macedonia 😂

Calixtine · 26/04/2019 16:31

I’d go with Fyfe of the three, be bold!!

NorthernRunner · 26/04/2019 16:49

macaroon 😆😆

I thought of a Fife drum or a Fife band.

One of the guys who used to own Fyffes ( bananas) goes for a walk in my area. You'd never think he was a multi millionaire. Very low key.

Divgirl2 · 26/04/2019 19:47

Keir is nice from your list, I went to school with a Kerr and he he was very handsome so that's worth thinking about.

Fife (kingdom of) has quite an angry sounding accent. I work with a man from Fife and Jesus he is an angry angry man.
