What do you think of Fyfe?

My husband and I thought we had settled on Kit, but we are starting to have doubts.

We would like something unusual, our dd is named after my granny, and she will probably be the only one in her school year.

My husband is Dan and he likes his name but dislikes that there are 5 other dans in his friendship group, so they all go by their surnames.

My name is also uncommon, I don’t think I have ever met another one of me, although I’m hearing the name more now than previously.

Other boys names we liked were;
Kipp
Rafe
Ari
Keir

But the more I think about it the more I’m drawn to Fyfe. My husbands family is also Scottish so I quite like that link, especially as DD is named after someone from my side of the family.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

I think of Brabbins and Teddy Fyfe of Armstrong and Miller connection Their songs are so brilliantly funny and rude (although that’s not going to be everyone’s first thought admittedly Grin)

Happilyacceptingcookies · 26/04/2019 07:28

I know it as a surname. Don't like it as a first name, sorry

brizzlemint · 26/04/2019 07:29

Bananas was my first thought

Bookworm4 · 26/04/2019 07:29

Unless you're Scottish, naming him Fife is ridiculous, can I suggest Lanarkshire if that's your theme. The only nice one is Keir, the rest are awful hooray Henry styley.

I feel you want a Fife place name, he about Cupar? Elie if it's a surprise girl?

AudacityOfHope · 26/04/2019 07:44

I live in Fife and I really like it.

Never heard it used as a name before but it sounds cool.

newroundhere · 26/04/2019 07:44

I like Fyfe but maybe that's because I love Fyfe Dangerfield!

How about Finn / Finlay / Finbar? Or Reid?

NorthernRunner · 26/04/2019 07:48

I hear what you are saying about being a county.

Doesn’t put me off though, I knew not everyone would like it, and I’m glad. It’s why I’m not a fan of top 10 names, and is mostly why my husband and I are going off Kit.

For the record I know of children with names like Devon, London and Paris, so it’s not unheard of near me. (Although I appreciate everyone’s tastes are different 🤷🏻‍♀️)

Cheers for all your input!

No way @northernrunner

I was coming on here to say please go the whole hog and call your wee one “Fyfe Dangerfield”!

Look, if it’s good enough for James Dean Bradfield’s mummy!

Ps: I think it’s ace

NorthernRunner · 26/04/2019 07:51

Haha middle name will probably be James as it’s a family name.

Fyfe/Fife James F....

I really like it. Grin

Going to have to lay some guillemots this morning now. Remind me of being 17 again!

Where I'm from "kit" is the street name for heroine, so that may be clouding my judgement, and Fife the place isn't far away so I personally would say no to both of them.

bigbluebus · 26/04/2019 08:01

Bananas immediately came into my mind too OP - but then Fyfe had a depot in my home town and I knew people who worked there!

Letthemysterybe · 26/04/2019 08:10

I like Kit a lot and Keri. Fife isn’t too out there. My
First thought is ‘oh soldier soldier will you marry me ....’

I could well be being daft but I don’t get that reference? Blush

I saw the title and immediately thought you must be a Guillemots fan! 😉 I quite like it! LOVE Kit though. Good luck deciding! X

I haven’t listened to them for years but My husband and I were avid fans in our late teens. Made up Lovesong #43 has a very special place in my heart

*Fife is not a town it's a county.

Would be like calling your child Yorkshire or Bedfordshire.*

Kinda, except Fife sounds nicer as a name. So annoying when people use silly comparisons.

Letthemysterybe · 26/04/2019 08:39

“Oh soldier, soldier, won't you marry me?
With your musket, fife, and drum?
Oh no, sweet maid, I cannot marry thee
For I have no coat to put on
Then up she went to her grandfather's chest
And got him a coat of the very, very best
And the soldier put it on....”

NorthernRunner · 26/04/2019 08:46

Still no clearer letthemysterybe

😆🤷🏻‍♀️

Definitely bananas 🤣
We have a Kit and at five he’s the only one we have ever met though heard of one other at a party. It’s nowhere near a top ten name.

Keir is also a very nice name and quite distinguished
Kipp sounds like a Chinese food supermarket

Eatmtcheese · 26/04/2019 08:53

What about Hal?

Justkeeprollingalong · 26/04/2019 09:00

I did immediately think off bananas but still quite like it. Love Kit but please give him the full name of Christopher so he has the choice when he is older.

NorthernRunner · 26/04/2019 09:02

I have liked Kit for a long time, and before we knew dd was a girl, we were thinking Kit then, that was 5yrs ago. But there are more kits now, there is one in my daughters nursery and my neighbours have just had a Kit. So despite it not being top ten, or even top 100, he may still have a couple in his class when he comes to school age...but I can’t shake it completely. This will probably be our last child so I’m feeling extra pressure to get it right!

OP posts:
NorthernRunner · 26/04/2019 09:02

If we used Kit it wouldn’t be Christopher, I am not a fan of that sadly
