Me and my hubby are trying for our rainbow baby and I love the name sailor.

OP posts:

Do it!

My DD is called Moscow Mule and it hasn't done her any harm.

NotANotMan · 04/11/2018 07:45

I have a child who was born after I had a late miscarriage. He's not a 'rainbow' anything. He is his own person; he wasn't a replacement or a consolation prize. His name was chosen with zero reference to the previous loss.
Why do people think that having experienced a previous loss means you have to imbue the next pregnancy/baby with all this additional meaning? It's unfair and unhealthy.

shiveringtimber · 04/11/2018 07:57

I'm sorry for the child, being stuck with such a name. He'll be teased relentlessly, all through his life. Parents can be so selfish sometimes with these nonsensical names!

CherryPavlova · 04/11/2018 08:00

Absolutely agree NotANotMan

shiveringtimber · 04/11/2018 08:03

Call the kid "Cowboy", why doncha?

Another2day · 04/11/2018 08:06

I don't find Sailor/Saylor any different to other common occupation names like Taylor, Mason, Tiler, Cooper etc. None would be my choice but they're not that terrible as some of you are implying!

pattyhoo · 04/11/2018 08:06

I think the name Sailor sounds sweet, and far nicer than 'Hunter' (might as well be called 'Killer').

Sailor reminds me of the anime Sailor Moon (group of kick-ass girls) or Nick Cage's character in Wild at Heart.

Go for it if it feels like the right name! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy too

lynmilne65 · 04/11/2018 08:20

Don't suggest daft names then 🙄

Some similar names you could consider-

Tinker
Tailor
Soldier
Rich Man
Poor Man
Beggar Man
Thief

Taylor22 · 04/11/2018 09:12

This post popped back up. And now I think about it there are kids who have to live with Nevaeh so I guess in the grand scheme of things it's not the worst....

Glossymare · 04/11/2018 09:15

I’m from a farming family.
My dd is called Tractor
My ds is called Plough
I think they’re lovely names Wink

Daysofpearlyspencer · 04/11/2018 09:16

If your relatives went to sea they were not strictly sailors but seamen, which will probably be your child's nickname at school ....

wildgirls · 04/11/2018 09:33

What’s the ‘Mia brigade?’ Curious as to what kind of person this makes me Hmm

VenusInSpurs · 04/11/2018 09:34

“My dad, grandfather and many before them worked on the seas, it's a tribute to them, it's meaningful and playful”

Marina for a girl?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 04/11/2018 09:39

Call the kid "Cowboy", why doncha?

I like Cowboy for a girl.

Seriously, OP< how about Marina?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 04/11/2018 09:40

Snap, Venus.

ADastardlyThing · 04/11/2018 09:46

Sailor cherry? Poor bugger, I'm guessing you'd want him or her to be one of those kids who lives within their parents until they are about 60 because they've had rotten luck in life.

MarthasGinYard · 04/11/2018 09:49

Sailor Cherry 'name'

WTF

Is this actual surname you are posting. Some people love to share I guess.

Feel sorry for this hypothetical dc

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 04/11/2018 09:53

Nah, I know a Zailor still bad, but not as bad

BakedBeans47 · 04/11/2018 10:03

Horrible

gallicghoul · 04/11/2018 10:13

It's not a name I'd chose but if OP likes it then why not?
I don't like surnames/professions as first names in any sense.

Obviously there's little chance of other board committee members sniggering about the name or the baby becoming Prime Minister Cherry because the sad fact is that those children with unusual names like this aren't successful in more traditional industries.

Might be fine as a musician or actress but unlikely to be the next Governor of the Bank of England.

BathFullOfEels · 04/11/2018 10:14

My parents and grandparents were gynaecologists. I’m really regretting not giving either of my ds’s a name as a fun and playful tribute to either of them. Oh well, I’ll have to start trying for number 3.

BathFullOfEels · 04/11/2018 10:17

I’ve just been reminded that I named ds1 after my grandpa 😳

gigglingbiscuit · 04/11/2018 10:24

I worked with a french lady once called Seila, I thought it was lovely 😊
