Me and my hubby are trying for our rainbow baby and I love the name sailor.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ScreamingValenta · 03/11/2018 17:43

I like it, but your child will have a lifetime of people 'amusingly' leering "Hello Sailor".

insancerre · 03/11/2018 17:43

What does your husband say about it?

strumpetblowingatrumpet · 03/11/2018 17:44

It's a no from me. 'Hello Sailor' has connotations that he'll have to put up with for the rest of his life. I'm not exactly adverse to unusual names either.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 03/11/2018 17:44

It’s alright for you to be playful OP, but it’s your son who will have to actually live with his ‘playful’ name for 80 odd years.

TSSDNCOP · 03/11/2018 17:44

Quite right Twelve I stand corrected and it’s realky only a matter of time until Astronaut, Trafficwarden, Binman and Doctor top the most popular lists.

EmmaGeddon · 03/11/2018 17:45

Nothing wrong with it. It's a name similar to Taylor, Mason, Cooper, Parker, Marshall - all occupations.

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

3out · 03/11/2018 17:46

Not a fan. But it’s not my child so it doesn’t matter. Call your own child whatever you like.

Hunter is different because it’s a surname for a first name rather than an occupation for a first name (at least locally anyway)

MidnightVelvetthe7th · 03/11/2018 17:47

I don't know any Sailors in RL either children or adults. The only reference I have is Sailor Moon, the anime character.

Other than that, just negative songs really as people have already said & negative 'hello sailor' types of things. Lots of sailor jokes and limericks.

Anasnake · 03/11/2018 17:47

Tinker, tailor, soldier, spy
No

needsanewname · 03/11/2018 17:47

I am definitely NOT of the 'Amelia brigade' but Sailor just isn't a name. Please don't do it.

Saymaname · 03/11/2018 17:47

Bristol Palin, one of her’s is Sailor and i thought it was awful then. Then she’s got Tripp...and Atlee. No Sailor.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 03/11/2018 17:48

Well, I like it, and I speak as someone who didn’t get saddled with an unpronounceable/spell-able name from my Irish parent but did get saddled with a weird Russian/Romanian name from my other parent with that heritage...........and I’ve grown to love it, you don’t get many to the pound, put it that way 😂. Go for it, it’s sweet.

PiperPublickOccurrences · 03/11/2018 17:48

My dad, grandfather and many before them worked on the seas, it's a tribute to them, it's meaningful and playful

But as a name it's bloody awful. There are loads of sea related names out there:

Marina
Pearl
Coral
Christopher (as in Columbus)
Mary Rose
Mariana (trench)

PortiaCastis · 03/11/2018 17:50

My dad was a solicitor but dd is not called affidavit

Whitley83 · 03/11/2018 17:54

It doesn't bother me that a lot of people don't like it, it's personal to me and I've always liked it. I've seen the name pop up over a number of years and I've taken a liken to it..
'Hello sailor isn't a phrase kids will know of unless they're watching 1940/50s films so that doesn't worry me.

Sailor will be for either sex, my maiden name is cherry so the girl will be sailor cherry (surname)

OP posts:
CliffordDanger · 03/11/2018 17:56

sailor cherry (surname)

Sure, Jan Hmm

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 03/11/2018 17:57

Well why ask here then Confused.

It’s bloody awful but rock on, you’ve made up your mind.

Sandbox · 03/11/2018 17:58

If it doesn’t bother you what people think why ask? And since you did ask, it’s a ridiculous name

Whitley83 · 03/11/2018 17:58

Sorry, did I ask? I'm sure I didn't.

OP posts:
BlaaBlaaBlaa · 03/11/2018 17:59

Please don't do this to a human being. It's so unfair. It's not a name.

Why can't people just chose actual names for their children. 🙄

FairNotFair · 03/11/2018 18:01

Sorry, did I ask? I'm sure I didn't

You put it on an online discussion board. Unless you wanted a chorus of "mmm", you should really expect a reaction of some sort Confused.

I genuinely can't believe how many people are being so vulgar. I never asked for an opinion or for anyone to even offer me alternatives. This is my rainbow baby and I want to name them after something my family does.

OP posts:
ThroughThickAndThin01 · 03/11/2018 18:03

You didn’t actually ask - although presumably posted to canvas opinions, if you didn’t then why post?

Sailor Cherry - this has to be a wind up anyway.

Sandbox · 03/11/2018 18:04

Ah so you just wanted attention for naming your baby something silly, gotcha
