Me and my hubby are trying for our rainbow baby and I love the name sailor.

OP posts:

That has to be one of the worst I've seen on here, please don't!

NoArmaniNoPunani · 03/11/2018 20:54

Sailor Cherry sounds like my favourite rum

sheldonstwin · 03/11/2018 20:58

Love the name Sailor., Christie Brinkley named her daughter Sailor. (someone might have said that already on this thread)

DifferentD35 · 03/11/2018 21:00

I like it 🤷🏽‍♀️

NorthernRunner · 03/11/2018 21:07

I actually really like it.
Isn’t Liv Tyler’s child called Sailor?

To each their own but I think it’s a good name. I am personally not a fan of the top 10 names, and being a childminder in London, I don’t think I would blink twice if I heard it. Variety it the spice of life and all that 😊

FruminousBandersnatch · 03/11/2018 21:21

I like it too. But then, my first born’s name was roundly derided on MN. She loves her name and I’ve only heard nice things about it in real life. I’m sure it will be the same with Sailor as on MN people are rude in a way they wouldn’t be when they’re hiding behind a username.

FruminousBandersnatch · 03/11/2018 21:22

*not hiding behind...

Catsize · 03/11/2018 21:30

I hope your surname is Way.

Powerless · 03/11/2018 21:33

It's popular in America - but still awful.

Better than 'Tripp' which I heard on a US tv programme the other night! Yep! I'm serious....

bridgetreilly · 03/11/2018 22:06

This is one of the weirdest threads. OP isn't even pregnant, doesn't want opinions on the name, and I can't for the life of me work out why she's posted it.

peachypetite · 03/11/2018 22:09
Confused

"I’ve only heard nice things about it in real life"

Well you would, wouldn't you? In RL people wouldn't dream of saying their true thoughts about even a dreadful name. The whole purpose of this board is to be able to give your real opinion.

Occupation names are really just a subsection of transferred surnames. They sometimes work OK on a boy (not to my taste though). But I do not think this one works.

Taylor22 · 03/11/2018 22:13

That's awful. Don't do that to a child.

Shopkinsdoll · 03/11/2018 22:15

Why? This must be a joke

percheron67 · 03/11/2018 22:16

It may be a meaningful word but it is a ridiculous name to land a child with.

LordPickle · 03/11/2018 22:17

It's quite popular in the US. Not overly common but definitely not considered odd.

LordPickle · 03/11/2018 22:21

Oh forgot to say it's usually spelled Saylor when used as a name over there.

plaidlife · 03/11/2018 22:23

frum is quite right I am never rude to someone's face about the name they have chosen for their DC, that would be mannerless. It doesn't mean I don't hear some awful names but I would just nod and smile. On this board I am honest, otherwise what is the point?

MsSensibleWay · 03/11/2018 22:24

I kind of like it, makes me think of Sailor and Lula from Wild At Heart.

To be honest there are so many traditional names these days Sailor is really not going to stand out as being that weird.

Good luck OP.

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 03/11/2018 22:26

I don't rate Sailor as a name and my DC don't have common, twee names.

They have sensible names - Roustabout and Debugger.

PippilottaLongstocking · 03/11/2018 22:27

Honestly I started reading this thinking it was awful but after reading it so many times it’s grown on me, it’s not much different to Tailor/Taylor

NarcolepticOuchMouse · 03/11/2018 22:43

Do people not imagine what it would be like to have their chosen names themselves before cursing a child with them? For the kid's sake I hope it's a joke.

Notjustanyone · 03/11/2018 23:11

I prefer Anchor personally.

Sophronia · 03/11/2018 23:16

Selah for a girl is much nicer.
