I LOVE the name Scottie for a little girl but everyone seems to think I'm mad? Is it that bad? I think it sounds V cute Halo

TheQueenOfWands · 05/01/2018 22:06

Yeah, it's cute.

I like that. Different, but not too different.

Good name.

starzig · 05/01/2018 22:08

I would worry how it translated when she is older.

RaindropsAndSparkles · 05/01/2018 22:10

Noo! Makes think of the little dog on a famous handbag brand. There are nice Scottish names: mhairi, catriona, davina, Ailish, Flora too I think.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 05/01/2018 22:10

It’s not a girls name though. Would you really want it to be your name? I wouldn’t.

Mishappening · 05/01/2018 22:10

And how does it sounds when she ceases to be cute? - as we all do.

It just makes me think of a yappy little dog with a tartan collar.

NinonDeLenclos · 05/01/2018 22:10

Ok as a nn but it's basically a dog's name.

F Scott Fitzgerald's dd was nn'd Scottie - real name Frances.

Baubletrouble43 · 05/01/2018 22:12

Actually I think that's cute. I like it!

anothernetter · 05/01/2018 22:12

All I can think of is "Beam me up Scotty". Also to me Scotty sounds more of a Nickname. Could you think of another name for the birth certificate?

Hygge · 05/01/2018 22:16

I like it.

If you love it, use it.

So what if it's not a girls name, or sounds too cute for a grown up to some people.

She'll make it work for her, and you'll always regret not using it if you pick something else.

And you can guarantee that whatever name you do pick, someone else won't like it anyway.

And as Ninon said, it has literary heritage.

marmitecrumpets · 05/01/2018 22:16

I quite like it. Haven't heard it before but I think it's a grower

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 05/01/2018 22:16

Beam me up Scotty Grin

Please just use it as a nn OP, if you have to use it at all.

ClandestineAdulation · 05/01/2018 22:17

As others have said, makes me think of ‘Beam me up Scotty’ and also of a dog.

I agree it’s cute, though, just not sure if I think it’s cute because it’s making me think of a dog, or if it’s cute in it’s own right...

therealreason · 05/01/2018 22:19

Makes me think of a little dog. I wouldn't like to be a 20 something professional introducing myself as Scottie, sorry OP!

MandaraSugar · 05/01/2018 22:19

Really sorry OP Scottie (were it on a female or male) to me is a very American sounding teenagers name, also makes me think of the 1990s wrestler Scotty 2 Hotty Biscuit

buttercup54321 · 05/01/2018 22:22

Awful. scottie dog or star trek.
Scarlett?

starzig · 05/01/2018 22:23

How about Scottina then she can choose Scottie or a more girlie name like Tina.

BackforGood · 05/01/2018 22:40

Please don't.
I mean, at least give her a proper name for the rest of her life, even if you call her that for fun at home.

HeyRoly · 05/01/2018 22:43

No.

Tacking "ie" onto a boy's name doesn't really make it feminine.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 05/01/2018 22:46

How about Scarlett but nickname her Scottie.

BrutusMcDogface · 05/01/2018 22:50

Nope, sorry. It's cute in a dog kind of way but not a name for a baby girl to take through to adulthood imo.

Bonnie?

BrutusMcDogface · 05/01/2018 22:51

Oooh how about Scout?

Allgirlskidsanddogs · 05/01/2018 22:52

It’s not a good name for a girl, but it may make a great nickname.

Enidblyton1 · 05/01/2018 23:01

Fine if your surname is Scott and so Scottie becomes your nickname.

Otherwise, no.

TatianaLarina · 05/01/2018 23:05

Or Charlotte with Scottie rather than Lottie.

Notallthat · 05/01/2018 23:08

I really like it but would give her a traditional girls name as her middle name so she has options when shes older if she so wishes.
