Any predictions? Big rises or falls?

I think Lydia will have gone right up, but not quiet top 10 yet.

kimlo · 13/08/2016 18:37

Boys Edward will be top ten woth a big rise for Teddy.

LolaStarr · 13/08/2016 18:37

I think Lily will have shot WAY up on the girls list, possibly to number 1

Uphegoesdownhegoes · 13/08/2016 18:38

I think Freya will be up there- I know so many little Freyas!

Also Ted/Edward seems to be huge.

cornishglos · 13/08/2016 18:45

Otto and Ottilie will have risen I think.

SleepFreeZone · 13/08/2016 18:48

I recently named my son Tobias/Toby and suddenly I'm noticing that name is being mentioned a lot more on here and also out and about.

Same happened with my first son's name. It went from being 120 or so when we picked it to now 30 something.

SleepFreeZone · 13/08/2016 18:49

I know SO many Lilys and Ellie derivatives.

GoldPlatedBacon · 13/08/2016 19:15

I think Isla will top the girls. Violet, Beatrice & Ivy will be big risers.

Agree about Teddy, I know so many but Oliver is the boys name I come across the most so I think that will keep the top spot.

Sophronia · 13/08/2016 19:38

I think Toby, Theo, Reuben, Finn, Freddie, Teddy/Ted, Elijah, Ezra, Evelyn, Penelope, Clara, Orla, Aria, Maya, Emilia and Annabelle will all go up.

MrsGsnow18 · 13/08/2016 22:58

Agree that Isla will have moved up. I know of three that were born recently and strangely two of them are very closely related!

coragreta · 13/08/2016 23:13

Lily might not do do well because of all the spellings. Lily, Lilly, lilie, lillie. Don't get me started!
I think Mohammed for number 1 boy. Although that has multiple spellings too.

SerenDippitee · 13/08/2016 23:22

cora have you seen the British Baby Names blog combined spellings list for 2014?

You are quite right - if you combine all of the spellings of Lily, including hyphenated examples like Lily-Mae, and similarly all of the spellings of Mohammed, both were much higher up. By this methodology, Mohammed was the top boys' name and Lily moved up from ninth to second place.

Teddy is definitely a big winner. I suspect Max is going to climb too.. Not sure about girls names but I'm sure Olivia will remain very popular.

Thelastusername · 13/08/2016 23:28

I think Isabelle/ Isabella will be top 3 at least. I know of 4 born last year.

thatstoast · 13/08/2016 23:28

I'm keeping my eye on hugo, it seems to be moving into the mainstream.

coragreta · 13/08/2016 23:32

I found that article very interesting. I dislike the trend for unusual spellings but will resist the urge to rant about it.

JinkxMonsoon · 13/08/2016 23:36

Violet, Beatrice & Ivy will be big risers.

Definitely, plus some other "old lady" names like Edie.

In fact, I knew Edie was getting REALLY popular when I saw an interesting spelling (think Eedee, but not!). Ditto Ada when I saw it getting hyphenated. Neither of those will affect the stats, obviously.

SleepFreeZone · 13/08/2016 23:37

Agree about Teddy. Also Oscar.

Smidge001 · 13/08/2016 23:39

I thought this thread was going to be about naming a baby conceived in 2015 from a One Night Stand. Blush

unicornthong · 14/08/2016 00:21

So did I Blush

Crunchymum · 14/08/2016 12:59

I expect my DD's name to have risen massively. Don't want it to have but it's become really popular.

Barefootcontessa84 · 14/08/2016 13:02

Based on the babies I know born in 2015, Martha will have made a move upwards!

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 14/08/2016 13:04

Yes definitely Martha!
