The ONS data will be released later than usual this year, on 2 September.

Any predictions? Big rises or falls?

Madelyne Confused this is so interesting Grin

Idliketobeabutterfly · 02/09/2016 13:50

Better than summer winter

nightandthelight · 02/09/2016 13:50

DS' name continues to fall. Now at 888th which I find a very pleasing number Grin

Idliketobeabutterfly · 02/09/2016 13:53

Subtitles number? My sons name (Edward) has rose.

Scribblegirl · 02/09/2016 13:58

Oh Blush, I hadn't thought of that. Thanks Squoosh and Butterfly - how insensitive of me.

nightandthelight · 02/09/2016 14:03

Had to look up what you meant butterfly as didn't know that about subtitles. I just liked the symmetry of it Smile

Thank you Herroyalfattyness, great link. I am not in the UK and have one DS (born 2000) with no more than a dozen or so named each year (at peak) and a second, born 2005, whose name has suddenly hit 74th and climbing fast. All I ever wanted was: easy to say, easy to spell and not a million or two in the same year at school. Interesting stuff Smile

Forgive me for being a bit dim, but what sort of sad reasons lead to a baby being registered as "Baby"?

Penelopeontherun · 02/09/2016 14:15

I imagine it's often where the baby has passed away shortly after being born, and for personal reasons the parents would rather not register a name.

Idliketobeabutterfly · 02/09/2016 14:19

Yeah I'm guessing most will be deaths just after birth

Theresomethingaboutdairy · 02/09/2016 14:20

Really surprised that Henry didn't make the top 10. We can't move for Henrys around here.

Idliketobeabutterfly · 02/09/2016 14:20

Nightandthelight... I'm showing my age.

Idliketobeabutterfly · 02/09/2016 14:21

Not come across a Henry either here.

SanityAssassin · 02/09/2016 14:22

My childrens perfectly gorgeous classical names are not figured which pleases me :) my sons middle name has crept in though.

Scribblegirl · 02/09/2016 14:22

Interesting article on the Guardian today about baby name regrets: www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/sep/02/baby-name-regrets-naming-child-parents

Idliketobeabutterfly · 02/09/2016 14:31

I like that article... Just fell in love with name Rafferty too

Scribblegirl · 02/09/2016 14:38

A friend of mine has a 4 month old called Rafferty, I love it too!

BestIsWest · 02/09/2016 14:38

Surprised that my DD's name is still top 10. She's 23 now. DS' name has dropped down to the mid twenties though.

Puppy is in at no 17.

JinkxMonsoon · 02/09/2016 14:45

Oh of course. I hadn't considered neonatal deaths at all.

Jules2 · 02/09/2016 17:29

Mohammed at number 1? That would be zeitgeist for the UK, wouldn't it? I can't imagine it will be in the number 1 spot in the USA. I think George and Charlie will be up there, along with Will and Harry. For girls, setting aside those weird (and wonderful?) made up names/spellings some parents go in for - flower names are perennially popular (pardon the pun) - Iris, Violet, Lily, Rose. Hey - we may even see some Hyacinths, Lavenders and Fuchsias! Number one - probably Charlotte.

SerenDippitee · 02/09/2016 17:48

Jules, the data is now out.

Austin Powers never put me off the name..liked it..but mainly because my Dad had an Austin healy car lol and I just liked it as a name

Honeybee79 · 02/09/2016 18:23

I am surprised that Iris remains outside the top 100 (albeit only just); I had thought it would leap in as Clara did. I am considering Clara for my DD, due in 3 months, but it does seem to be becoming very popular very fast. I'm not sure how much that bothers me to be honest.

Also thought that Edith/Edie would both be higher up.

Longtime · 02/09/2016 18:46

My Oliver is 28 this year. You rarely heard it back then. Am a bit miffed it became so popular.
