The ONS data will be released later than usual this year, on 2 September.

Any predictions? Big rises or falls?

I was wrong about Beatrice and Isla, they've both fallen.

Over 100 Michelle's registered though, that surprised me

Surprised at 2014 boys names, these don't appear to have changed from my son's year group, he is now 22!! I know several of every single one of those names.

Out of interest...

The only list of all the names I can find on ONS ends at 6 or less names... If this is so where does the Dark Greener site get the less popular names from?

I am astonished to see that my firstborn daughter's (perfectly normal) name is now hovering around the 400 mark! Second born is around 200, but it was just about in the top 50 when she was born 8 years ago.

Porcupine, go on the table 6 of the download, there is every single registered name! Right down to all the unique spellings! It's very interesting.

Wow our first names are all unusual... Out of me, my DH, DS,DD,DM,DSis & Dniece none of us have a name within the top 1000!! Even our dog is outside the top 100 girls names! Looking at the numbers... DD's name was used for 9 babies last year, DN 8 babies and DS just 4!! We love weird obviously!😎

I'm surprised Hazel is so low (#219). I see it suggested on name boards all the time.

Interesting reading. Am surprised that Toby has fallen a couple of places. Seems very much on the up where I am. Also surprised that there are more Davids than Tobys, and that it's rising. Have never met a baby David.

For girls, am surprised that Emily is so high up as only meet a few, and that Sophia isn't number 1! Definitely is in my area!

DD name not in Top 100 and DS just made it. Wondering if DD's name will ever catch on! No matter if not Smile

It's interesting to see what the names of the broader generation will be - 8 of the top 10 boys' names were in at least the top 20 when DD was born (2004) and 6 of the girls' names. In fact, Emily and Jessica were top 10 in 1996, so they won't narrow someone's birth year down very much at all!

ABCFamily maybe it's hidden away as a middle name? It's DD's. Smile

There are eight with DS's name, whereas the year he was born there were so few the ONS didn't list it. I'm a bit shocked at its newfound popularity....

I have an eight year old Clara, it was WAY down when I chose it.

Still never met another one though.

Eight is still obscure to the point of virtually unknown though. Hardly "newfound popularity" Grin

My DD's name has gone from outside the top 500 to inside the top 200 in the space of six years. Bit annoying, but I still can't see it being that commonplace.

Spaghettidog · 03/09/2016 14:26

Sorry, my sarcasm didn't make it onto the screen. Grin

I'd be gobsmacked if we ran into another. The only time it's ever happened was a London encounter with an elderly street drinker from a country where the name is popular.

HerRoyalFattyness · 03/09/2016 14:43

The year my dd was born there were only 8 others born who had the same name, only 16 born last year.
Despite this I still see someone with her name (that's not her) every few days. And speak most days.

I'm dying to know what the name is now spaghetti Grin

It would be very identifying indeed!

I have been waiting for this list since early August. It was late this year! I would love it if they combined all the different spellings as then we would get a true idea of what names are popular. Also the hyphened names should be counted as just the first part, so 800 Lily-Mae's and 700 Lily-May's should be added to just Lily, along with Lilly, Lillie, Lili etc.

SerenDippitee · 04/09/2016 10:55

Cadbury as mentioned and linked upthread the British Baby Names blog does exactly that. Only
2014 currently available but I'm sure she'll do 2015 soon.
