The England and Wales Stats for 2014 are out on Monday.

Gather here your name nerds and statistic fiends.

What are your predictions?

What will be the top girl/boy name for 2014
What has finally jumped the shark and is dropping like a stone
What will be the biggest riser
What is your prediction for the biggest surprise (riser or faller)
What do you think the new trend will be
What will be the daftest name on the list (remember there have to three children with the name to make the list)

There were 8 girls called Batsheva Confused. Please, someone, tell me that Batsheva is a perfectly nice, normal, name in a different culture.

Otherwise, 8 people have chosen to call their precious baby a name that I can only read as "Batshit".

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 17/08/2015 17:48

And 93 people can't spell Sienna (Siena).

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 17/08/2015 18:25

Batsheva sounds like a Hebrew spelling to me, so possibly a Jewish name.

The Italian hill town is spelled Siena. Are they more learned or less than the people picking Sienna? Grin

RedToothBrush · 17/08/2015 18:34

I suspect Bathsheba is related to Batsheva.

WhatKatyDidnt · 17/08/2015 18:35

Siena is the correct spelling though isn't it?

marshmallowpies · 17/08/2015 18:42

RedToothbrush there are also 4 Divas alongside 4 Dynasties!

I think Sienna with the extra N is the name of the colour pigment used by artists - it's the name of the colour rather than the town which has caught on, although I'm sure they are related to each other. (Perhaps Sienna is the Anglicized version of Siena the town?)

I'm surprised there aren't more typical Welsh names higher up the Wales only list - I thought Seren was always high up in Wales?

jorahmormont · 17/08/2015 19:39

DD's name has dropped in popularity - only 23 Celyns last year (the year she was born) combined with 38 the year before. Favourite name for potential DD2 isn't on the list... bad sign or good? Grin

KERALA1 · 17/08/2015 21:24

Wow how is Amelia so popular? Super dull.

ch1134 · 17/08/2015 21:29

Yes, and it always makes me think of mealy worms.

ApplesTheHare · 17/08/2015 21:33

Is there a way to search for a specific name? I can only seem to see lists of top 10 or top 100...

NoArmaniNoPunani · 17/08/2015 21:54

The name we've chosen is number 2600and something.

marshmallowpies · 17/08/2015 21:59

Apples I have the 2013 file downloaded as an excel file and then you can sort by A-Z and find the name you need...

RedToothBrush · 17/08/2015 21:59

Apples, go to the link for the full list above. The full list is on one of the tabs on the excel sheet

nailsathome · 17/08/2015 22:09

We went with Loki, wanted a name outside the top 100 so I'm happy with that

ApplesTheHare · 17/08/2015 22:12

Cheers Red Smile

FATEdestiny · 17/08/2015 22:15

Some really lovely names right at the bottom of the boys name list. I am surprised these are not more popular.

Teal
Sabian
Moss
Davie

Disappointing at the bottom end of the girls list though. A very large proportion of different spellings and hyphenated names, rather than unique names

Apples - scroll across the tabs at the bottom to table six. Then press Control and F. Types the name into the Find box and click 'Find All'

Enkopkaffetak · 17/08/2015 22:35

well dd1's name is now High 20th Sad when she was born 18 years ago it was not in the top 100.

dd2 and 3 plus ds dd3 is in 209th posistion ds and dd3 are in 1000th.

Happier with that as what we wanted was unusual but not weird names so feel we have managed well with those.

Had a sneaky look at other names we had down for them I am very happy we didn't name dd2 Amelia.. (was on our shortlist) other names we had for each of the children would have been from 200 and down.

NothingUpMySleeve · 17/08/2015 22:43

DS1's name is still down in the 1000's, DS2 is getting close to top 100.

Not really that bothered about the figures, but I've never been as utterly certain that we had the right name second time round. Given the popularity, looks like plenty of other people prefer Ds2's name!

Lunastarfish · 17/08/2015 22:43

48 Myra's Shock

Milkyway1304 · 18/08/2015 00:08

My name doesn't feature anymore. Clearly of its time- I know quite a few of us around my own age.

ch1134 · 18/08/2015 06:31

The predictions about Anna and Elsa were wrong? They won't go up by hugely now will they?

windolen · 18/08/2015 08:17

My 11 year old niece and her friends are discussing the very same thing on another site, apparently (it's not you is it, OP, similar links etc). Name nerds indeed! That's what they call themselves. It all seems a bit childish

joia · 18/08/2015 08:23

I was interested to see whether this would rise just because were so many threads about it. Elsa soared from position 183 to 104. I'd say top hundred next time. I haven't even checked to see the position of our chosen name for DC and strangely not very interested in finding out...

My friend just had a little Morven. I know a handful of Scottish Morvens so am very surprised that no Morvens were registered in England or Wales in 2014.
