The England and Wales Stats for 2014 are out on Monday.

Gather here your name nerds and statistic fiends.

What are your predictions?

What will be the top girl/boy name for 2014
What has finally jumped the shark and is dropping like a stone
What will be the biggest riser
What is your prediction for the biggest surprise (riser or faller)
What do you think the new trend will be
What will be the daftest name on the list (remember there have to three children with the name to make the list)

OP posts:

I have a friend whose DD is called Romilly and another whose DS is called Barnaby. We also shortlisted Elijah for our DS.

Not sure what that says about us and our friends Confused

SmugairleRoin · 14/08/2015 22:50

Says nothing about you really bunny. I'm just always surprised that those names are always suggested on here, and yet I've never met one or heard of someone (even through friends) having one. From here I would've imagined it is really trendy.

SmugairleRoin · 14/08/2015 22:52

Also, did anyone else look at this thread title and think ONS stood for one night stand? Grin

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 14/08/2015 22:52

I know a romilly and my Dd is Anna and we also had an Elsa in our NCT group. However, they are nearly 6, do pre Frozen!
Know two little Pennys born this year, couple of Lotties and a Felicity.

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 14/08/2015 22:52

*so, not do!

Skiingmaniac · 14/08/2015 22:59

Girls top 5:
Ava, Isla, Rosie, Sophie, Charlotte

Girls top 5:
Oliver, George, William, Freddie, Mohammed

HuftysTrain · 14/08/2015 23:02

Ooh, always find this a fun read.

It's the names coming in at the bottom of the list that are noteworthy as they'll be the ones rising over the next couple of years. The top of the list is less interesting - not really earth-shattering if Isla and Isabella swap places!

poocatcherchampion · 14/08/2015 23:20

We have been having a boys name problem (since dd1 was conceived). Latest edd is November.

Therefore we have picked a number and that will be the name. Number 76.
Although dh reckons number 3. He is probably hoping for henry.

Let's hope it is a good in!

Alisvolatpropiis · 14/08/2015 23:30

The only Octavia I know is mid 20's and from the traveller community, I've not heard of any others.

A friend recently named his son Elijah, but again is the only one I've heard of.

swimmerforlife · 14/08/2015 23:52

I reckon a lot of the more classic names like Abigail, Hannah, Megan etc will fall way out of the top 50. Ellie will have a massive drop too.

Also Jack could fall out of the top 5, am starting to hear less and less of them. Samuel and Alexander will fall even further out of the top 20.

DoloresLandingham · 15/08/2015 00:23

I predict a sharp rise for Beatrice (#95 in 2013). I have heard of two born in the last week...

HuftysTrain · 15/08/2015 00:25

Yes, I agree, lots of Beatrices born this year.

BrambleBee · 15/08/2015 04:47

Top 5 names:
Amelia
Olivia
Sophia
Emily
Isabella

Oliver
Harry
George
Jacob
Charlie

Fastest risers: Rosie, Martha, Marnie, Lydia, Penelope, Henry, Ethan, Albert, Arthur

KenDoddsDadsDog · 15/08/2015 04:53

Orla , suggested on every MN thread.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 15/08/2015 04:57

I am a bit dim - I read ONS as one-night stand and thought "really? Someone's mentioning that over naming their baby?" Blush

Now I'm never going to be able to read ONS (Office of National Statistics, I assume) the same way again.

Mrsfrumble · 15/08/2015 05:06

I guess it's a blessing that we've (reluctantly) decided not to have any more children, because if I had another boy he would have to be Henry because I love the name so much, yet have noticed how wildly popular it seems to be.

seaoflove · 15/08/2015 05:26

I know a baby Beatrice: you could be into something there.

Fully expect my daughter's name (just outside the top 500 5/6 years ago) to keep shooting up the charts Angry Last year I even saw a hypenated version in the charts. The horror!

pinkgirlythoughts · 15/08/2015 07:08

Popular names I've heard at baby groups this year (I have a 2014 baby) have been Ellie, Olivia, Sophia, Penny for the girls, and Reuben, Sebastien, Stanley, Albie, Freddie for the boys.

Wishful80smontage · 15/08/2015 07:16

I think Edward/Ted/teddy will be very high up as will Violet for the girls- we know lots. Noah and Atthur will have shot up too.
I'm hoping for me personally that Henry has stayed around 18th as its my front runner name for my ds (due in dec) and trying to avoid top ten.
All the vintage names Pearl, Mabel, Bertie will be in the top 100 or higher this year I think.

pinkgirlythoughts · 15/08/2015 07:21

ooh yes, Arthur another popular one, always accompanied by a weirdly smug "I picked it because I like unusual names, me" type explanation. I always want to reply "Well, you didn't check the popularity lists if you think it's unusual, then, did you?" Mind you, most people I know think I'm odd because I do check the lists!

Tangoandcreditcards · 15/08/2015 07:25

Sophie, Alice & Charlotte

also

Teddy, Freddie

I think Anna, Elsa & Matilda will be risers, as well as Reuben, Henry & George.

Emily & Jacob have got to be in the top 3, I know loads of them!

Fallers may include Chloe, Ruby & Jessica; Thomas, Samuel & William.

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 15/08/2015 07:59

I think Lyra will have gone up a lot, I know 8(!) born this year! Also Penny, Alannah and Rebecca.
Albie will have gone up for boys.

IAmLynetteScavo · 15/08/2015 08:03

Harper, I know of 4 in the past year!
