The England and Wales Stats for 2014 are out on Monday.

Gather here your name nerds and statistic fiends.

What are your predictions?

What will be the top girl/boy name for 2014
What has finally jumped the shark and is dropping like a stone
What will be the biggest riser
What is your prediction for the biggest surprise (riser or faller)
What do you think the new trend will be
What will be the daftest name on the list (remember there have to three children with the name to make the list)

Oh and Chloe is doing fine IME, know 4 of them born this year too!

PrincessOfChina · 15/08/2015 09:01

For the girls I would expect drops for Chloe, Lily, Ellie. And gains for Florence, Isla and Violet.

For boys, I agree that Jack will start to drop. I only know of one born in the last five years. Sebastian, Albert and Edward will all see gains I think. I imagine Sebastian will be Top 20.

MrsNuckyThompson · 15/08/2015 09:05

Can't believe all the comments about Ted. We have an Edward nn Ted born 2013 and at that time it was nowhere on any list. We still haven't met another so will be disappointed if it becomes all the rage. However I guess that's just the way these things work.

I think William will be v popular still and also Catherine.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 15/08/2015 09:06

I think Otis might be a surprise boys entry.

TheseSoles · 15/08/2015 09:09

I think Emma and Alice will be top 10 for girls

Not sure about boys. Reuben and Hugo do seem to be on the rise.

FluffyMcCloud · 15/08/2015 09:13

Based on babies I know born this year I think Isaac and Reuben will both be much higher up the list tha previously

Pigzoom · 15/08/2015 09:57

Ted, Theo's, Matilda's,Martha, Beatrix, Florence. Loads of these x

BarryGoosey · 15/08/2015 10:09

I reckon Lydia will have moved up the list significantly.

Marlow and Harlow to enter top 100.

TremoloGreen · 15/08/2015 10:11

Oh dear, quite a few posters think my name is becoming popular. Does this mean I'm going to be going into supermarkets in a few years' time and hearing "Trem, put that down! Stop messing around, please!". Because that's going to be confusing Grin

BarryGoosey · 15/08/2015 10:12

I'm actually quite excited about seeing the list!

serenmoon · 15/08/2015 10:25

I agree about Ted. Although all the Teds I know we're actually registered as Edward, but are known as Ted.
The other names I've noticed being popular are:
Charlie
Jacob
Isaac
Noah
Hugo

Beatrice
Violet
Florence
Isla

RedToothBrush · 15/08/2015 10:26

Curious to know whether Ottilie, Elijah, Octavia, Romilly, Ophelia, Barnaby etc will rise or is it just an MN trend that doesn't always happen in real life.

I've come across a 2014 Ophelia. It amused me and I did think of MN.

Noah I think is just about peaking or has peaked. Replaced by Elijah/Eli

Ernest, Eric, Mabel and Jean I think will be more 2016/2017 but on the rise now. I think Jean is perhaps more middle namey than first name.

I think anna names in general will be on the up. Think Susanna/Susannah. People want to go with Anna but be a bit different.

Iris going up too.

Harry will be closing in on Oliver for the top spot but won't be there just yet.

Jessica won't be falling yet. There are swarms of Jessicas from 2014. (We need collective names for names - ie a Gathering of Georges)

And if you are sad, then I'm as bad. I've been waiting for the list for 8 weeks or so and I started the thread!

Arlo will shoot right up.
Thomas will go down.
Chloe will go down, Mable will go up.

AlfieandAnnieRose · 15/08/2015 10:30

Poocatcherchampion I LOVE that idea, how brave! Grin Im hoping it's a good name for you

5madthings · 15/08/2015 10:36

I shall be watching with interest, I agree re violet, Isla going up.

Boys yes to teddy and theo, I have a theo(Dore) but he is 16 so we chose it before it got popular.

poocatcherchampion · 15/08/2015 11:04

It is a little nerve wracking I must sayGrin

Yes to Iris increasing.

seaoflove · 15/08/2015 11:14

Oh yes. Iris is going up. I love it but decided against it for DC2, who turned out to be a boy anyway Smile

I am still surprised that Ivy was top 100 last year. No doubt it'll be higher.

Ruby has had its day I think. I reckon it peaked around 4/5 years ago, and it's making a slow descent.

Violet will be massive. It's so popular I've even seen is as a second hyphenated name, which puts it up there with Rose and Grace and May for popularity.

Lunastarfish · 15/08/2015 11:34

Interesting to read the comments about Violet. I just registered my DD and gave her Violet as the middle name. She has a very uncommon first name so can't see that being in the ONS list but I suppose that is what people thought about Isla 10 years ago

poocatcherchampion · 15/08/2015 13:13

Elliot is OK buy dh said no. Seth is in the ball park I'd be very happy with that - again dh is no. Out of yours I'd like Jude please...

HuftysTrain · 15/08/2015 15:29

Isn't it usually in September?

Also, it's hard to predict these things. I don't know any children with top 10 names but know loads of Theos, Oscars, Romilleys, Tabithas and even two Henrietta's known as Hettie. But it's a big country and in some areas I guess everyone just calls their boys Oliver and their girls Amelia.

RedToothBrush · 15/08/2015 16:45

Isn't it usually in September?

Nope.

August this year
August last year
August the year before

I saw something earlier today (in the Telegraph maybe?) that there were more Zebedees last year than Gordons or Gavins. It did make me think of MN, though I can't remember whether Zebedee ended up being a "approved of" name on here or not

RedToothBrush · 15/08/2015 17:14

Isn't that so odd.

There's been TWO threads about Zebedee just this week. And then an article in the newspaper? Who would have guessed the chances of that!

eyes suspiciously

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/baby_names/2445378-Zebedee-wacky-or-usable

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2425082-Zebedee-ZEBEDEE-really

I think the MN consensus is that Zeb is ok. Zebedee goes boing even though its biblical and Zebediah is preferable if you must and are a vicar.
