The England and Wales Stats for 2014 are out on Monday.

Gather here your name nerds and statistic fiends.

What are your predictions?

What will be the top girl/boy name for 2014
What has finally jumped the shark and is dropping like a stone
What will be the biggest riser
What is your prediction for the biggest surprise (riser or faller)
What do you think the new trend will be
What will be the daftest name on the list (remember there have to three children with the name to make the list)

As you say thankful for small mercies Grin

Best have a chat with dh...

DoloresLandingham · 17/08/2015 10:03

The Thea spotters were right - second biggest climber, up 42 places, and second only to Harper, up 71.

Wishful80smontage · 17/08/2015 10:05

I need a chat with mine too henry 15 but the numbers are a lot! Compared with numbers at 40 and further down.
My dd's name has gone up 12 places this year but still we've only met one other child with that name so not popular.

DoloresLandingham · 17/08/2015 10:09

Darcey and Darcie both appearing separately in the top 100. Will be interested to see the 'combined spellings' analysis.

BumpAndGrind · 17/08/2015 10:16

My name isn't on the list!

There were 3 in 2013, 8 I think the year before that.

DD has the same number as 2013, 23 girls with her name.

I was hoping to get more popular, not less :(

MrsAukerman · 17/08/2015 10:17

Ooh, ds didn't make the top 100. Do I get some sort of mn badge for that?

RedToothBrush · 17/08/2015 10:31

Will there be a combined names release would be interested in Edwards, teds, teddy combined it must be up there we know loads.

MitzyLeFrouf · 17/08/2015 10:41

If you combine all the Edwards, Teds, Teddys, Teddies, Teddy-hyphens it comes to 3955 which puts it just outside the Top 10.

(Disclaimer: I know not all Edwards go by Ted/Teddy but a sizeable chunk probably do)

marshmallowpies · 17/08/2015 10:45

DD2 around 150 born last year compared to around 200 mark in 2013, fairly static. (She was born early 2015)

DD1 less than 20 with her name - I'm amazed it's so unpopular! (She was born in 2012 and one of about 30 babies with her name that year)

Queenbean · 17/08/2015 10:51

It's so weird how many people name their children by an abbreviation

RedToothBrush · 17/08/2015 10:54

The following have moved more than a hundred places up in the last 10 years so are probably the most '2014' names on the list; Layla, Heidi, Esme, Annabelle, Florence, Lola, Evelyn, Eliza, Darcy, Beatrice, Siena, Ava, Willow, Lottie, Julia, Isla, Nancy, Thea, Lacey, Darcey, Darcie, Harper, Elsie, Bella,Violet, Ivy, Lexi, Eva, Rose, Sofia, Emilia

Most past their prime having fallen more than 20 places in the last ten years are; Anna, Molly, Holly, Lucy, Lydia, Abigail, Eleanor, Emma, Sarah, Ellie, Zoe, Isabel, Hannah, Leah, Megan, Bethany, Katie, Amy. Georgia also has fallen over 20 places, but has had something of a revival in 2014

Harper is the one that stands out most as having skyrocketed out of all the names on the boys and girls names. Can't think why...

If you are looking for what will be top 100 in 10 years time, look around the 250 - 350 mark for both boys and girls, though the girls are far more fashion influenced than the boys.

Is this the thread where we can smirk at some of the creative spellings. If so, can I offer Channel, Charliee and Cydnee for starters?

DoloresLandingham · 17/08/2015 11:16

Wishful the British Baby Names blog does a combined spellings table. Here are the 2013 girls and boys. It wouldn’t pick up the Edward / Teddy / Ted combinations, however, as it groups homophones and near-homophones, and hyphenated names.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 17/08/2015 11:20

And so all three of my DCs have names in the top 6. Although none were even top 20 when they were born!

Trend setter, me Grin

Queenbean · 17/08/2015 11:22

Where is the full list please? I can only see top 100?

MitzyLeFrouf · 17/08/2015 11:23

You need to click along to the 6th tab on the spreadsheet.

Blewitt · 17/08/2015 11:41

Is it possible to search for a name rather than scroll through them all?

MitzyLeFrouf · 17/08/2015 11:43

Ctrl+F works as a search function on a pc or laptop. Not sure about ipads.

Blewitt · 17/08/2015 11:44

Thanks!

HuftysTrain · 17/08/2015 11:54

Feeling quite smug that DD's name didn't make it into the top 100 despite every thread about her name insisting it's "on the up".

I think there must be names that get mentioned a lot on MN but not actually used very often, which makes people think it's all over the place when really it's just a notion.

HuftysTrain · 17/08/2015 11:54

Mabel for example.

That's not DD's name but you do hear it mentioned a lot. I assumed it was much more popular than it is.

Queenbean · 17/08/2015 12:04

Thank you Mitzy Flowers

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 17/08/2015 12:10

The tab with the top ten in each region is interesting too - I know the numbers are small, but there is a difference between London and the rest of the country

RedToothBrush · 17/08/2015 12:10

The boys list you've really been waiting for Wink
