The England and Wales Stats for 2014 are out on Monday.

Gather here your name nerds and statistic fiends.

What are your predictions?

What will be the top girl/boy name for 2014
What has finally jumped the shark and is dropping like a stone
What will be the biggest riser
What is your prediction for the biggest surprise (riser or faller)
What do you think the new trend will be
What will be the daftest name on the list (remember there have to three children with the name to make the list)

Zebedee article from Telegraph

Incidently, read that and then read these two blog pieces based on historic newspaper articles.

www.britishbabynames.com/blog/2015/06/tet32.html

www.britishbabynames.com/blog/2015/06/tet33.html

I can't help thinking in that context the telegraph article is bollocks really.

Oh and whilst I was looking for those articles I saw this one.

I want some of these names to be on next years stats! They are brilliant. Best list I've seen in ages! I wonder how many will get MN approval or would pass the High Court Judge test!

I think Keyworth, Southern, Garibaldi and Lemon (boys) would definitely fit in with modern life and naming trends.
Vignette and Plethora (girls) may not so much.

Undecimus, Vandloo, Buenaventura (Boys), Armour, Dogetta, Faerie, Mellony (Girls) all have potential too.

Big risers for girls I think will be. .. Elsie, Thea, Beatrice, Charlotte/Lottie, Arabella

Boys.
Ted/Teddy, Arthur, Arlo, Ruben, Elijah

marshmallowpies · 15/08/2015 19:39

Zebedee has to be a joke? Zeb could be short for Zebulon, one of Joseph's brothers (if I remember the song from Technicolor Dreamcoat correctly?). Zebulon is a little far out but sounds more solid and like a proper name than Zebedee.

Love Dogetta (sister of Frogmella?) - and of course there's Prunella, as in Scales - I never realised prunella was actually a plant until I saw it in the garden centre today.

DuhNuh · 15/08/2015 20:41

I think Erin will have risen too. I know a few. And definitely Eli for boys

RedToothBrush · 15/08/2015 21:22

Yeah a rash of erins and esmes here too.

I really like the names of those three boys in the Telegraph article you linked to. I prefer less used names than the more mundane, commonly used names eg Emily, Matthew, bored of hearing those now!

jorahmormont · 15/08/2015 23:13

I think Rory will have shot up, which is a shame as I love it for if DC2 is a boy :(

marshmallowpies · 15/08/2015 23:48

Jorah I've loved Rory ever since a favourite tutor at university who was a bit of a hero to me and I liked the name ever since - and that was 20 years ago! And now lovely Rory Kinnear too. I never had a DS so won't get to choose whether to use it but it definitely would have been on my list!

MitzyLeFrouf · 15/08/2015 23:51

All the Rorys I know are good people. In the UK I'd have thought it's a name that's been steadily popular for the past twenty years without any massive peaks or troughs.

I know lots of Irish Rorys in their early 40s/late 30s. Same with Oscar although Oscar is a bit of a johnny come lately name in England.

SerenavanderWoodsen · 16/08/2015 18:03

Oh yes, I had forgotten about Esme, Florence, Eli, Reuben and Seth - all popular around these parts, so expect them to rise.
I actually don't think I've ever come across a Rory IRL!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 16/08/2015 18:34

I know two baby Rorys born in the last 6 months.

Pandora37 · 16/08/2015 18:44

Not sure about Isla going any higher - it's already top 5 and I don't see it being the number 1 name. Don't think it's classic enough or been popular for long enough to be number 1 but maybe I'll be wrong. It will definitely still be top 5 though.

Agree re Ivy, Violet, Elsie (but will people be put off due to Frozen?), Annabel and Thea all being fast risers.

For boys I think Ted/Teddy, Henry, Noah and Isaac will have gained.

Pandora37 · 16/08/2015 18:50

I forgot to put Mila - I think it might be low top 100. I'm seeing more of them about lately. Also, I think Sophia may be top 10 and Eliza will rise a lot too. Also, I think Jackson might hit the top 100 for boys and Arthur will go up as well.

As for names that might drop:

For girls I think Ella, Lily, Jasmine, Abigail, Madison and Amy will drop a bit.

For boys I think Jordan, Callum, Connor, Kai, Lewis and Samuel will drop a bit.

poocatcherchampion · 17/08/2015 09:02

Alright alright its the big day! Are they out???

My number is up!

BumpAndGrind · 17/08/2015 09:16

Not out yet.

Any idea what time anyone?

RedToothBrush · 17/08/2015 09:28

When the civil service has got in the office, had their cup of tea, switched on their computer, had a natter and then got their act together to do some work Bump.

I would be surprised if its before 2pm after they have done their press release.

A stats lady on twitter said 10.30 so hope she's right out this afternoon and I need to know if Henry's in the top ten.

Wishful80smontage · 17/08/2015 09:39

It's out! Henry 15 phew

Wishful80smontage · 17/08/2015 09:42

Surprised Arthur hasn't gone up much!

Hulababy · 17/08/2015 09:45
