Are there any Aussies here?

Or more specifically, an Australian section here?

I've searched for 'Australia' and there are quite a few threads but mainly about moving to/from. I fear that any threads I start will be lost in the mumsnet sea.

Sorry to gate crash as a Brit in the U.K. I just want to say how jealous I am! Scouring for any job which would mean I could move down under but sadly entered the wrong field so it’s very unlikely Sad

What do you do? There are a lot of jobs on that will help you get a visa.

Hi all, another West Aussie here. I live south of Perth. Never ventured on to EB, I have been on mumsnet on and off since my oldest was born 15 years ago.

I'm hating the cold change we have had the last couple of days. Looking forward to the kids being back at school and going back to work tomorrow though.

Hello @kelly844 pleased to say we've set up a board now:
https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/aussie-nz-mumsnetters

We've included the Kiwis - hope this doesn't cause a diplomatic incident with Trans-Tasman relations! 🇳🇿 🇦🇺

Please do use your new board - you can add it to topics you're following here, and keep up to date with new posts on your feed. And tell your friends!

Thanks so much for the suggestion and to @BananaBender for alerting us in site stuff. Flowers

Legal, which means I’m only qualified for England/Wales jurisdiction. It’s not commercial law either (think family/crime type) so no chance of joining a big international firm. It makes me so sad, I’m desperate to leave the U.K. and Australia looks just divine! That beach photo! (Of course I know it would be mainly work and toddler bedtime routines like it is here, but to have things like that locally to enjoy now and then would be fantastic).

OrderOfTheKookaburra · 25/04/2023 18:23

@Coffeeandbourbons - have you checked which occupations are on the regional list? As long as you work outside of Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne you can apply for those visa categories as well, so Adelaide and Perth plus all the other regional areas are available.

Ah, blueled, so did the lawn get mowed? If he did that and made$100, I'd say that was a pretty good day!

@echt - have you always been in Melbourne? I thought you were in Sydney? But maybe that's my shot brain.

Hello @OctopusComplex, I've always lived in Melbourne since emigraing to Australia mid 200s.

VegemiteSammich · 26/04/2023 02:40

North east. You?

VegemiteSammich · 26/04/2023 02:46

workworkworkugh · 25/04/2023 01:25

I'm a few hours from Melbourne as well, are you west or east Victoria?

I’m north east, a hop skip and a jump from the border

Can I ask you lovely ladies if you have a cost of living crisis in Aus? In particular, high food and energy bills?

Definitely! Food hike prices are insane. Always more expensive here in the West due to cartage, but it’s ridiculous.

Theoldwoman · 26/04/2023 03:03

Oh and I was EB from nearly the very beginning. Now on the new EB but only read very occasionally and never post. Nothing interests.

Theoldwoman · 26/04/2023 03:09

Remember PurpleBlackQueen on the old EB? Also the panty liner thread. Ahhh memories!

She was the one with the insane daily lists?
there was also the infamous pillow poo incident and the guy who loved fishing.

Starlia · 26/04/2023 03:15

Oh and that famous troll Bronzi!

She was indeed! Sad when her DH died though.

I don’t recall the others.

Theoldwoman · 26/04/2023 03:20

Oh yes to Bronzi!! Classic and entertaining.

marmaladeone · 26/04/2023 03:44

I remember the tradie who pooped in a box

blueled · 26/04/2023 04:23

Oh cool we've got our own section!!

Those pesky tradies never used to let up with pooping in boxes, stinking up toilets, peeing in gardens and all kinds of horrors 😆

Catsmere · 26/04/2023 04:29

Aussie in Victoria here, no children but carer for my mother and two beloved cats. Had a busy Anzac day yesterday and am flaked out atm reading Mumsnet chat. Looking forward to the temperature dropping next week - 24 is lovely, don’t get me wrong, but it’s almost May and I want knitwear weather!!! 🧶

Aussie from near Ballarat, Victoria.

Ballarat was lovely the last time I visited years ago (used to do an annual pilgrimage to Sovereign Hill). Must go back again now I can drive.

I think I'm afraid to ask but ..... pillow poo?

echt · 26/04/2023 05:03

I'm taking advance of possibly the last really warm days of autumn and taking the pooch to the beach.

JambalayaOrGumbo · 26/04/2023 05:44

Yup - South Australia (born & bred)

I’m sure there are ways around it, if you’re up for further study. Otherwise if you have a partner, is their occupation on the preferred list?

It also doesn’t just have to be your qualification/occupation that gets you a visa, if you’re young enough and tick the right boxes you can get a visa just through meeting enough other criteria.
