New Year & a New thread - post what you hope to start/finish this week!

I have bought lots of fabby gemstones & I want to try & make some different types of jewellery, different ways of stringing etc.

DH also bought me some rainbow fluorite & I want to make myself a necklace & bracelet, although am still pondering what style I fancy!

(& my bog is sadly neglected, I must try harder!)

Nbg - I think a little set would be nice

meridian · 13/01/2008 13:05

have done two bracelets this morning here but the lighting is really crap, I really like how the garnet one turned out but it needs better light. oh and added a picture of the toy scarf I knitted yesterday.

right best go get some house work done!

oh and my DH has said he will bring home a work camera to take some proper pictures of my bracelets for doing an etsy shop... guess I will need to order more beads

Miaou · 13/01/2008 13:15

I have nothing to add to this thread this week as I am still knitting my cardigan! It is going to be fab but I have promised myself that I'm not starting anything else until I have finished it!

(oh I have been designing flower brooches too, just fiddling about with stitches etc atm - I want to send one to a friend for her birthday)

Will add myself to the stats thread just now ...

Nbg · 13/01/2008 13:50

Thanks Ginger.

Meridian, your pictures seem fine to me.
I really like the one of the smoky quartz bracelet at the top of your blog.
Looks quite professional actually.

Should have mentioned that Dressedup came to my house yesterday and cut my hair. Not so sure if you can class that as crafts

Nbg · 13/01/2008 13:53

Miaou, I was just thinking if you want to show some pictures on here, I'd be happy to do it for you so long as you know how to upload them to your computer and email them to me.

Whizzz · 13/01/2008 13:53

Some lovely stuff here people
I'm still trying to sort out my excess cardy stuff to make way for beads. I hope to have a play with my beady stash shortly !

Nbg · 13/01/2008 13:54

that was actually secret code for

"I really want to see what you've made"

meridian · 13/01/2008 14:28

nbg- thank you, some of the pics come out and some don't, its very hit and miss with my phone camera, and everything goes to pot if there is no natural light to be found.

and if I count baking and cookery as a craft why not haircutting

Nbg · 13/01/2008 14:54

Baking is a craft!
I can cook but cannot bake well at all.
One of my lifes ambitions is to bake a birthday cake for at least one of my children

Gingermonkey · 13/01/2008 19:28

I drool over the recipes you post on your blog, Meridian - they sound delicious (but I'm a cooker, not a baker too, can't do it to save my life!)
My camera is playing up so can't get a decent pic of Pug - I'll do it tomorrow and put it on the blog and I can post him out tomorrow or tues to you too. I'll email you.....

Miaou · 13/01/2008 19:36

lol nbg!! It's the taking and uploading I'm rubbish at!

Dh is a very techy person and I really need to talk to him about getting a blog/website up and going really. And yes, I talk the talk but I really need to demonstrate that I do indeed walk the walk and not just pretend to do stuff

Miaou
Setting up a log is really easy. Once you've got your pictures on your computer your away.

Give me a shout if you need some help.

Ok I have had a rummage through my jewellery case and made a bracelet, 3 pairs of earrings and a ring with the last bits I had.
I promise to put pictures up tomorrow.
I've also finished attaching hair to one of the little dolls but it seems to have taken an age to do.
Again, photos I'll do tomorrow.

meridian · 13/01/2008 20:27

gm- lol thank you, one day if a crafters circle can ever be organized I'll definitly bring the cakes... or a nice chocolate torte, or a key lime cheesecake ... I look forward to seeing the pictures, and the real pug!

califrau- we always bring extra cases, its like the suitcase version of russian dolls

dizzyday07 · 14/01/2008 10:27

Happy New Year to all

I know its late but I've had nothing to add so kept quiet!!

This week I have to:

  • Finish DD's bunting
  • Turn some jeans into 70's retro ones by inserting some flares in the sides - if anyone knows a better way than splitting the side seamsd and sewing in a triangular piece of fabric - please shout!!
  • Alter 2 duvet covers from single to cotbed size
  • Make a reusable shopping bag for a friend
meridian · 14/01/2008 12:50

ok ive done it I now have an etsy shop. totally and utterly petrified.. have only listed three things so far but hopefully it goes ok.

meridianariel.etsy.com

Miaou · 14/01/2008 12:57

Whizz, your stitch markers arrived this morning!! I am going to try them out later and will let you know how I go on!

Nbg · 14/01/2008 14:24

well done meri

can i just ask, if something on etsy is $20 does that mean its £20 or will it be the £ equivalent? if that makes sense.

Dingle · 14/01/2008 14:30

I think that is $ and you need to convert it to GBP....but only I THINK!!

Lovley shoppy Meridian...was it easy to set up??

Nbg · 14/01/2008 14:33

thanks dingle.
so basically if you wanted to sell something for £10 you would sell it for the $ equivalent then which would be about $20.

I'm planning on doing one too and I might list the bits I made yesterday and eventually the dolls.
I just cant manage to get the time to do anything. Its sooo frustrating!

meridian · 14/01/2008 15:43

nbg- thank you... i think that it coverts it for you on the payments page, so $20 is something like £10 ...

dingle- thank you.. it wasn't to difficult to set up just a lot of detail and time suckage... i'm going to try to list some more stuff this evening... off to the post office now to post gingermonkey her bracelet.. hopefully she likes it.. ( slightly worried and fidgety emoticon )

Gingermonkey · 14/01/2008 16:14

Meridian - the shop looks lovely. Did DH do the pics?
One tip....put an 'everywhere else' in the postage section, double the cost of UK postage and then you've got international. Also, put UK in the tags of each item, when people do a search for bracelets uk they'll find your stuff. (I often search for UK in tags when I need something quickly)

Good luck!!!!!

Gingermonkey · 14/01/2008 16:18

Nbg, paypal converts it for the buyer and then you (the seller) have a dollar balance in your paypal account (which is fine, it makes no real difference). You can put a statement for UK buyers in your shop announcement saying something like 'I am based in the UK, and all items will be shipped from there. UK buyers please note, prices are in Dollars which converts to approx $2 to each £1, any questions please convo me' You know, that kind of thing.

ChampsOnIce · 14/01/2008 16:48

hi everyone!! cant believe i've dropped behind yet again!!

my goal this week:

choc order,
5 valentine cards
place items on etsy!!

jeangenie · 14/01/2008 17:02

awh Meridian the shop looks fab - well done girl, you did that quickly - from learning to make bracelets to having a shop in a couple of weeks - you are an inspiration! Your things look really beautiful. I'm very impressed (can you tell?!)

I've had a day working from home on the day job today and in between managed to finally finish my little 2008 diary, take some new photos, upload the weekends photos and update my blog

phew!

I am feeling more and more disenchanted with my day job and just want to chuck it and make stuff but I'm a bit too random creatively at the moment to know what direction I could go in...ho hum
