New Year & a New thread - post what you hope to start/finish this week!

I have bought lots of fabby gemstones & I want to try & make some different types of jewellery, different ways of stringing etc.

DH also bought me some rainbow fluorite & I want to make myself a necklace & bracelet, although am still pondering what style I fancy!

(& my bog is sadly neglected, I must try harder!)

OP posts:
meridian · 11/01/2008 13:00

have made one new bracelet and finished a little knit card holder back to nursing my headache that wont go away

hello suzi2 welcome to the thread

gm- looking forward to seeing the pug!

lucykate · 11/01/2008 14:03

i'll join you meridian, have woken up today with a cracking migraine

i've signed up for a swap, here if anyone else would like to join, its a rather sweet valentine craft swap from lucy locket

Gingermonkey · 11/01/2008 14:12

pssst Meridian, the pug pics are up (well, a WIP one)

meridian · 11/01/2008 15:24

gm- he is georgeous!.. you must tell me what bracelet you want in exchange.. I thought you migth like the labrodorite and onyx one, or the chinese painted... i'm terrible at choosing.

he needs a name though.. Perceus, Percival, Pierce... hmmm what if its a girl pug?

suzi2 · 11/01/2008 16:35

Tillyboo - those bunnies are fab. Shame we're trying to cut back on soft cuddly things in this house or I'd want a whole collection!

Bracelets are gorgeous too meridian. Where do you buy your semi-precious beads just out of interest? I bought some off a couple of ebay sellers and the quality was awful.

meridian - phew, I'm so pleased you like him. Boot buttons then? I'll finish him off tonight and put new pics on my blog tomorrow afternoon.
I have been looking at every one of your bracelets a million times and every time I decide on one I then flick past another and change my mind....but I think you're right with the labrodite (oops,sp?) that is my fave stone I think (although the garnet looks beautiful too...oh, you choose, just surprise me - I can't do it!)

I've signed up for LucyLocket's swap, LK, and now I've signed up for a mobile swap too (I'm going swap crazy - lol!!!). There's still time to sign up folks, and a mobile is something a bit different. Over here and I still have to think about what to do for my PIFs (although technically I have the rest of the year to do that )

How's everyone got on this week?
I did really well, considering I thought I was going to do really crappily. I made the cushion for DS, 4 owl brooches for the shop, almost finished Meridian's Pug, and made some Frog doorstops (on my blog too).

Next week - I have to think about my mobile for the mobile swap and what I'm going to do for LucyLocket's swap too....hmm, what shall I do (and does it mean I can buy some valentine's themed fabric????? Whoo!!! )

lucykate · 11/01/2008 18:53

i'd love to do the mobile swap, but i just haven't got time atm as i've got some more paid design work to do, the valentine one appealed as it will be a much quicker project (and it involves chocolate )

meridian · 11/01/2008 19:27

suzi2- thank you. there is a lovely beadshop in the next town over to me, and the rest I got from a bead wholesaler online there are loads of them, there are some good ones listed in various crafting magazines.

gm- I'm going to go have a mess around with some beads and see if I can make something to supprise you with then.

oh and DS has asked me to knit a scarf for his toy cat

jeangenie · 11/01/2008 21:47

welcome suzi2 hope you have fun here

I can't believe it - I've just seen the poll thingy on blogger, it's so cool - I've put a random poll on my blog
along with photos of my new knitting WIP and some stitch markers I got for chrimbo
ooh, the blood has gone straight to my head with that poll thing - I can see myself getting totally carried away

(ps meridian - yes you should open an etsy shop, your things are gorgeous)

oh, link to my blog

Fubsy · 11/01/2008 22:42

GM - the pug is really cute.

I used to make a lot of soft toys when I was a teenager - i must try it again.

Do you hand stitch them or machine? (Im crap witjh a machine - I used to have a hand driven singer, but once that died I had to get used to electric, which wasnt easy!)

Tillyboo · 11/01/2008 22:59

Suzi2 - thank you. You know where to find me if you are ever in the market for a bunny etc. All my daughters little friends will be getting a bunny for their birthdays this year !
I have an Etsy shop too

They'll be taking over the world soon (he! he!)

GM - I'd love to join in the swaps but I don't have the time at the mo either. Now, if you could lend me an elf or two ?
I've left a Pug message on your blog by the way

Gingermonkey · 12/01/2008 09:34

Thanks Fubsy - I am now using the machine for sewing, when I prefer hand stitching really but machine sewing is quicker and stronger. Then I finish off by hand. I used to use an old fashioned singer at my mum's when I was a kid. I bet it's still there somewhere...I must look next time I go down and visit! My mum made me a huge patchwork quilt when I was 2 (she did it the whole time she was pregnant with my brother - it took her just over the pregnancy!), and that was either hand stitched or using the singer.

TB - I'm too busy for the swaps too really, DH and me had a bit of a row last night over how much time I am spending sewing and how little time I am spending talking to him - he said it would be nice to see my face when I talk to him and not the top of my head but I couldn't resist (I told DH he was being needy and to shut up!!!). It was DD that liked the sound of the mobile one, because her room is being decorated and she needs some new things in it. Hopefully she'll be pleased with whatever she ends up with (because she can be very very critical)

Dingle · 12/01/2008 13:08

Lots of creativity going on here!! Got to stop crafting and paint DS's room later!!

jeangenie · 12/01/2008 16:09

hi everyone - great work going on everywhere it seems.

I've signed up for the valentine swap, it'll be my first and I am a bit nervous. What if the recipient doen't like it (whatever I end up making)?????

I'd love to do the mobile one but wouldn't have a clue where to start so haven't signed up for that

thanks for the links guys

Gingermonkey · 12/01/2008 19:12

JG - thank you for your lovely comment on my blog...let me know if you want anything when the DD's birthdays come round! I think I'm going to make a hanging bird thing for the mobile swap, on a wooden dowel...but I'm not sure, I have to have a play about first.

Whizzz · 12/01/2008 19:18

Well I have made a few things a long (can wear long or wrap twice around) necklace Dark Blue Shell necklace and a bracelet made of green oval shell beads here and I have been experimenting with stitch markers for knitting & crochet ! crochet stitch markers

OP posts:
meridian · 12/01/2008 20:08

whizzz- love the new stitch/crochet markers, I must get around to making some, though I have never knitted anything more complicated than a scarf

i've made one smokey quartz braclet and knit H's scarf for his Peanutbutter (toy cat) but not taken a picture of it becuse he snaffled it up and took it to bed with him. I need to order some more beads ( addiction) and probably sort out what I need to do for an etsy shop. oh and decided on a braclet for GM.

Gingermonkey · 12/01/2008 22:49

ooooohhhhhh [excited emoticon]

Dingle · 13/01/2008 09:21

LOL...look what I made last night!!!

Got more decorating to do today, then lay a carpet!! Then I want to start on my to do list again!!

Got all my paperwork through for my NVQ yesterday, so goodness knows how I will fit it all in!

Can we list our blogs again somewhere please - I want to start adding a few more to my links list- any objections to me putting in a section for MN crafters?

Dior · 13/01/2008 09:30

Dingle · 13/01/2008 10:24

Thanks Dior...I'll start a list and add a few links together!

I am putting all my xmas die cuts in a divided box, it is out and about, stacked up with the others, all year round...so hopefully I will be able to add to them and know where there are when I want them....but I did say hopefully!

lucykate · 13/01/2008 11:20

i've started this a vital stats thread for everyone here, thought it might be useful to have a list of who's who, and does what, blogs etc

Nbg · 13/01/2008 11:50

Hi everyone

Theres some fab stuff being made. Its great.
I've added myself on to the vital stats thread.

Can I just gauge some opinions please.
I've made some little steinery type dolls with the intention of selling them at the local easter craft fair.
Now I was planning to make some little sleeping bag/bed things for them, an outfit and possibly something else to go with them. They will all look different too.

Now do I sell the little items with the doll as like a pack or sell them seperatly?
They wont cost much anyway but didnt know what would be better.

Any thoughts?

dressedupnowheretogo · 13/01/2008 11:57
