New Year & a New thread - post what you hope to start/finish this week!

I have bought lots of fabby gemstones & I want to try & make some different types of jewellery, different ways of stringing etc.

DH also bought me some rainbow fluorite & I want to make myself a necklace & bracelet, although am still pondering what style I fancy!

(& my bog is sadly neglected, I must try harder!)

Goodness meridian!!!

Oh yes, that cat is gorgeous LK!!!

I have blogged again tonight, but nothing crafty- a story of a missing tooth!

Frizbe · 09/02/2008 22:07

[crash] sorry the girls wore you out Meridian, but you will get beading money for it once dh gets back tomorrow! (should that be dd2 wore you out and your long suffering cats!) I think dh is wrong to refund C if that wasn't what was agreed in the 1st place? now get that email from the joint account and get a craft stall at the posh school fete thing I sent you (go on girls give her a shove ) Oh and remember to take stuff into Clowns as well, they'll sell it for you too!

Fubsy · 09/02/2008 22:29

Is the blog working again, or am I mysteriously responsible for all the posts still?

I havent been on it for a few days, but i hope I havent messed anything up when I have been on it!

Actually thinking about it thats a lie, I went on the other night to look at the blue things, but I havent made mine yet, so havent posted anything, just admired!

Champs · 10/02/2008 02:30

Just finished some goodies!!
kokomallows, kokoreos, heart cookies and chociese. A bit tired now, so will do all the packaging and pack them all tomoz. Also have to do card order.... yawn!!

hmmmm.... so tired i forgot to post this till now. came back to catch up and see typing in the message box

Nbg · 10/02/2008 08:52

Oh no Meri!
I definately dont think you should be giving away your stuff. Even to friends. You need to at least cover the cost of the item.
And do as Frizbe says and get yourself down for a craft stall. You'd do really well!

LK, had a look at your cat yesterday and she is fab.
Would love to see the fairy made whilst under the influence of Pimms

The apron cheesed me off yesterday so it got pushed to one side and I started another doll with a bit of an easter touch to it.
I'm not 100% that its going to turn out ok because I've made it with cream fleece but we shall see!

Whizzz · 10/02/2008 09:40

meri - I agree its very hard to charge friends at first- I always get told off for not asking enough. eg i said to a friend that one of my necklaces was £8 & she refused to give me less than £10. Pricing is very hard but always make sure I include cost of the beads & all other bits & bobs + the cost of the P&P if I decided I wanted to make another (which may mean more than one lot of P&P if materials came from different suppliers etc). Some people then factor in a % for their time but to be honest I would only do this if something was really fiddly & time consuming.

This week I want to finish my scarf (it's looking not too bad!)
Do my Blue challenge (have no ideas at the mo - am awaiting inspiration)
Sort out craft fair things - ie work out what I need to make to take along
POssibly get my polymer clay out to play with

  • but that's all depending how DS is with emtertaining himself over half term!

Meri - the problem is once you let one person off, you'll let more and more (Or rather DH will ). Stand your ground, your bracelets are very reasonably priced, are well made, use beautiful beads....and over all it's your time.

vInTaGeVioLeT · 10/02/2008 10:52

well i finished ds's scarf yesterday - oh dear , it is a bit of a failure really!! i bought an odd ball of wool the last one in the shop - and soon realised there would not be enough , so i made it stripey , then the sides started rolling in on it's self , then i ran out of the second wool too and it is too short - so he has ended up with a wooly cravat!!!!!

IT TOOK ME OVER A WEEK TO KNIT TOO!!!!!

but i did enjoy it and it only cost me £1

vInTaGeVioLeT · 10/02/2008 10:53

i may sew the edges together and make a knitted snake out of it!!!!!!!!!!!!

vInTaGeVioLeT · 10/02/2008 10:57

meridian - if i was the person who wanted you to make the bracelet , i'd be embarrassed and insist on paying you

your bracelets are really lovely and you obviously agonise over getting them just so - so you deserve to be paid for your work

Whizzz · 10/02/2008 12:58

Dingle - can you make me one of your lovely cards please - a Mothers Day one ? I really like the one in the slideshow on your blog that says Love Grows - although all your stuff is lovely! Something heart/flowery would be good

hello everyone.. thank you for all your kind words.. in a much better mood today.. despite awful cramps... DH is being very good to me.. i think he knows he made a mistake... and I may just make him prove it later by refunding the money via his paypal instead of mine .. have the house free for a bit as have packed dh and ds off to the park so am going to crack on with this pile of cards... i will be calm and serene ... and I will raid the kitchen for my hidden stash of dark chocolate....

thanks for letting me vent and being so positive... right cards and chocolate... sounds like valentines day allready...

Nbg · 10/02/2008 13:02

Ooooh that reminds me, Mothers day and MIL's birthday the day before!

I've updated my blog with jewellery pictures here

Nbg · 10/02/2008 13:08

Chocolate

Tillyboo, I have emailed you.

meridian · 10/02/2008 13:16

nbg-- have left a very quick comment on your blog... right back to piles of card bits and scattered buttons...

Nbg · 10/02/2008 13:21

Thanks Meri.

The chain is really easy. Particularly Silver because its so soft, so easy to cut.
I got it from PJ Minerals online and was quite reasonable in price.

I think if your used to using Tiger tail and acculon etc, chain will be a piece of cake.

I'm just about to order some Tiger tail.
eeeeeeeeeek!

In fact just before I do, if I order 0.06mm wire, what size crimp beads do I need?

vInTaGeVioLeT · 10/02/2008 13:36

a quick question about tiger-tail i find it bends and kinks and if i use lots of beads and crimps the necklace twists and won't hang nicely . . . . any advice? please

Whizzz · 10/02/2008 13:55

I only use 7 strand Beadalon now, I think it drapes & behaves better than tiger tail .

Tillyboo · 10/02/2008 14:11

Nbg - Thx, just emailed you back

meridian · 10/02/2008 14:50

I use the same as whizzz, it works quite nicely... the only trouble i have with anything is some round silver crimps.

have posted on my blog nothing much just a recipe and a quick picture of a finished card.. the the image is a bit crap... tired now just want my chocolate...

Tillyboo · 10/02/2008 14:59

Sorry ladies, still no crafting done so posted a bit about our day out yesterday at Newbury Races on my blog.

I have managed to clear some of the winter rubbish from the garden - that's being a bit creative isn't it ?

meridian · 10/02/2008 15:12

tillyboo-- you can come sort out my garden... all I have done is some baking and card making, the cards were more of a job than being creative though... and have just counted up and am one short good thing I didn't tidy up yet

Dingle · 10/02/2008 15:21

Whizzz - of course!! I will make up a few similar to the "Love Grows" card on my blog and add wording afterwards...any particular colours in mind???

Not got much crafting done as we have had MIL & FIL around for dinner today. DH has just taken DD to her riding lesson and DS has has a shower and is now on the PS2!!

I am trying to make the most of a few minutes "quiet time" by making a card order with a pink limo on it!!!

I am on borrowed time as when DD gets home, she needs a shower then we are all going to cuddle up together and watch Shrek III!! I might take my Cuttlebug down and do some die-cutting later though!

Gingermonkey · 10/02/2008 16:40

I've finished my mobile for the elsiemarley blog swap and put it on my blog. Other than that I've done bugger all all weekend!
