New Year & a New thread - post what you hope to start/finish this week!

I have bought lots of fabby gemstones & I want to try & make some different types of jewellery, different ways of stringing etc.

DH also bought me some rainbow fluorite & I want to make myself a necklace & bracelet, although am still pondering what style I fancy!

(& my bog is sadly neglected, I must try harder!)

OP posts:

Hmmm, my DH does that kind of working quite a lot too. Poor little LucyKate - she has allergies, most likely

I have not finished the blue challenge thing yet, but it looks like it's finished so here y'go

jeangenie · 06/02/2008 12:58

got your email GM - great, will reply later when have some more time

I think it was me asking about pegboards (cos that's the kind of fascinating gal I am!) let me know how much that one ends up at

the PIFs look fab

Meridian - so does your stuff

(I WANT TO DO SOME CRAFTING NOT SOME SITTING AT MY DESK BEING BORED OF NAGGING PEOPLE WHO DON'T WANT TO DO STUFF TO DO STUFF - oops sorry, it just spurted out!)

Gingermonkey · 06/02/2008 12:59

quick, run away, run away, go shopping...go on. You don't want to be there in work, work is for losers

jeangenie · 06/02/2008 13:01

don't tempt me - seriously, don't! It'll lead to tears, or a P45 at least, although now I think of it....

Gingermonkey · 06/02/2008 13:07

go on, the sun's shining, get on a bus and go to that shop on Portobello Road that sells cupcakes and get me a couple, and a glass of milk and I'll see you in about 3 hours. The kids can get taxis home from school and cook their own tea. DH is out do he'll be none the wiser that I've eloped

Very sorry JG and NBG for the pegboard mix up - obv the G's confuse me (not hard though, there's not a lot of brain in my head)

jeangenie · 06/02/2008 13:09

OK

(gotta do some work now, before running off to cupcake heaven)

Fubsy · 06/02/2008 13:59

Tilly, read you other thread and actually had to check your title wasnt "or DH will kill me"! Some people take things too literally I think!

But I am impressed you are persevering with all that. I overglazed some carrots once and the black pan somehow made it into the bin

I must remember coke as a pan cleaner. Im a bit worried now though cos I once made Nigella's Ham baked in cherry Coke!

Nbg · 06/02/2008 18:55

LK and GM, thanks for the help. I was going to do it by hand but it always looks messy.
However I'll iron it, tack and machine it, if it will let me that is.

GM, the PIF is lovely and I love your blue challenge piece.
I started mine last night!

I had a lovely trip to town and got some 1m off cuts for £1 each, 2 bags of stuffing and some plain boxes to put the jewellery in.
Still haven't taken photos!

Gingermonkey · 06/02/2008 20:44

No prob, NBG. But next time, leave a smaller gap for the legs. Sew with the machine all the way round leaving only a couple of inches for the legs to go in at the bottom, then do it by hand using a hidden stitch (google for a tutorial), and as you'll only have a little opening it'll be easier. Or stuff the legs first, and attach them first, and just leave an opening somewhere else to turn right way round and stuff. (but I can never get my legs on right that way!)

meridian · 07/02/2008 09:11

doubt I will manage to get much done today as ds is home all day and needs entertaining.. but have the house to myself tommrow so i plan on getting the blue challenge done then. and settle down with a cup of coffee and my sketch book and draw till the pencil sets fire... or soemthing to that effect

Nbg · 07/02/2008 09:25

I definately need a bigger needle as it just wont go through the fabric and the legs.
I stitched it by hand last night and tbh it isnt that bad. But obviously it would look better by machine.
I'm going to have a go with the other fabric I bought today and see if its different.

Yet another question too
Is there such a thing that you can cover fabric with to make it waterproof? Or is there a waterproof fabric you can buy that can be embroidered?
My friend wants some of the hearts I make for her dd with her initials on which I'm going to do but I want to do some with a little message on or her husbands initials too.
He died last summer and his ashes are buried by a tree in the country near his brothers farm. So my friend goes up and sometimes hangs things from the tree and I think she'll really like the hearts.
I'd like to get it done for valentines day ideally.

Oh and before I forget, Whizzz after I posted your beads yesterday I came home to discover that ds1 had stolen a bag of them so expect another package in the next few days

jeangenie · 07/02/2008 10:02

awh Nbg that's really sad - but your heart idea sounds fab - sorry I have no idea what you could use but I hope someone can help

I did the blue challenge last night - just made a little card with some blue fabric I like, will blog it later once I get a photo

funnily enough Meridian I've returned to drawing too, didn't quite set the paper on fire last night but had a lot of fun. Am going to try to draw at least a little bit every day

I have made some little hearts that I'd like to sell on Etsy, but I think it's too close to V day. I haven't blogged them (or put them on Etsy yet) as they are based on what I made for my swap partner in Lucy Lockets swap, and she doesn't want to open her parcel til V day so I don't want to spoil the surprise for her (not that it'll be that fab an experience )

hmm, maybe I'll set up a stall on the street and get the kids to flog them to passersby

Nbg · 07/02/2008 10:12

Oooh I want to see the hearts JG.
Are they knitted?

dizzyday07 · 07/02/2008 10:14

Nbg - I think that you can buy a spray that waterproofs fabric

jeangenie · 07/02/2008 10:15

nope, not knitted - they are sewn with applique on the front and some hand embroidered kisses and hugs (DD1s design suggestion - she is very handy to have around that child!)

I am just about to try and sew up the stuffing gaps - wish me luck!

maybe will put photos on my profile later, my partner shouldn't be able to see those

Nbg · 07/02/2008 10:22

They sound great.

Dizzy, do you know what its called?

dizzyday07 · 07/02/2008 10:27

this stuff

Nbg · 07/02/2008 10:44

Lovely, thank you Dizzy

lucykate · 07/02/2008 10:53

in case anyone wants to get involved and donate something hand made, there is talk of putting together some kind of mumsnet charity auction. here

lucykate · 07/02/2008 11:14

and, has anyone else spotted the blogs link up there ^

in between 'local' and 'discounts', it only links to a mumsnet set up blog atm, but maybe tech can tweak it so it can link to blogger, typepad etc

meridian · 07/02/2008 11:16

jeangenie-- well I doubt I will set the pencil on fire either.. but its a nice Idea.. I have been abit uninspired and tired this week and just not felt particularly crafty... And I haven't done any writting for 2 months or more .. not that my writing is great by any stretch but i try to keep more poor brain functioning...

so out will come the sketch book dust cobwebs and all..

look I have a beadiing catalong from fire mountain gems.... ohhhh... thsi could be trouble...

Nbg · 07/02/2008 11:33

Errrr Meridian.

2 Words for you lovey.

Necklace, Divine.

meridian · 07/02/2008 11:40

nbg- thank you.. you are the lovely one though.. right best go drag ds out of my bath water before he turns into a prune.. the boy is obsessed.. i was in the bath ten minutes and he barged in on me 3 times to see if he could have the bath water yet. well at least he will smell like roses for a bit

Nbg · 07/02/2008 11:55

Well I know

Honestly its fab. I really really love it and even more so on the silver wire.

jeangenie · 07/02/2008 12:44

well, on the spur of the moment I brought some hearts down to my local little wool shop and she took 3 and put them in the window!!!!
am dead chuffed - fairly sure they won't sell but still, it feels nice!!! (think she just put them up as how could she really refuse when one of her regular customers comes in with something they made and plaintively asks if she can sell it - poor woman)
will take photo in a while hopefully
