New Year & a New thread - post what you hope to start/finish this week!

I have bought lots of fabby gemstones & I want to try & make some different types of jewellery, different ways of stringing etc.

DH also bought me some rainbow fluorite & I want to make myself a necklace & bracelet, although am still pondering what style I fancy!

(& my bog is sadly neglected, I must try harder!)

OP posts:

Well, just in case the suspense kills you one of the things I've just finished was a cuff for my ds. It's the stitch and bitch nation one with the skull and crossbones. And he's really chuffed with it!

Gingermonkey · 05/02/2008 21:50

that sounds so cool! (and actually the suspense is killing me!!!)

JG forgot to say the mobile is looking pretty damn special!

GM

Tillyboo · 06/02/2008 09:04

Dizzy - I use Anchor Pearl Cotton mostly. It doesn't tangle, split or shred when you use it as I've found with some threads.

Glad you ladies had a good day !

I ventured on the 'Good Housekeeping' section yesterday as I seriously burnt a pan and wanted some suggestions as to how to get the black off. You wouldn't believe a couple of the replies I got in response to the title thread which was meant totally tongue in cheek !

I'm still not sure if some of the comments were serious ones ? But my dh read them and said 'Haven't they got anything better to do than post ridiculous comments'

I'm sticking over here from now on !

Gingermonkey · 06/02/2008 09:21

lol @ 'I really, really object to the thread title'. Can you imagine what would have happened if you had put 'before DH slaps me'. It doesn't bear thinking about! Don't go over there, stay here with us! I use that fairy power spray on my stainless steel pans, and it's really good. And what are you doing porridge in the pan for, like a 1950s housewife? Get it in the microwave - oatso simple, 2 mins !!!!! More time for crafting then!

Nbg · 06/02/2008 09:38

I'm suprised you've been able to get to the laptop Tilly.
I thought your shackles would have been to heavy.

Glad to hear you all had a good time yesterday!

GM, were you talking about stuffing when you were mentioning Hillary?

Whizzz, I received the fabric today and its great!
In fact my friend has already eyed it up for a softie for her dd lol.
I'm going to post your beads today because I'm going to town.

I made a couple of pair of earrings and a necklace yesterday with my new bits but I havent photographed them yet as the light is so bad
Going to try today becaue its lovely and sunny.

meridian · 06/02/2008 09:39

tilly--god that is rediculous... some people have absoloutly no sense of humor what so ever... I would say if in doubt use sald and scrub the crap out of the pan.. saying that DH burnt popcorn in one of my good pans and it still has little black specked marks on it from the burnt bits.. i have learned to live with it....

struggling with an online tshirt design printer... doing my head in but need to get a tshirt done for my dad...

Gingermonkey · 06/02/2008 10:49

NBG - no, a peg board thing. Have a look on her blog, it's got a smock (she so rather cleverly made) hanging on it, and it's so gorgeous, it's the peg board of my dreams (I have rather sad dreams, don't I?!)

Mr Postman just brought me some fabric, la la la la!

lucykate · 06/02/2008 11:05

well, i'm making a huge mess atm, have started that christening present, its a cat softie with the body made from a towel, so there's bits of fluff everywhere now i've cut into it. dd's back at school, and ds is at nursery so there's just the other child dh at home today and i'm being forced asked to go for a pub lunch in a bit

tilly, i had to lol at people getting all uppity about your thread title, good grief, do they really have nothing better to worry about? , anyway, how is the pan??

vInTaGeVioLeT · 06/02/2008 11:18

O M G at tilly's thread - what's wrong with mumsnet these days?
i frequent the childminders board too and there keep being silly "discussions" over there - sometimes it seems people just want to fight

i've done nothing crafty but had a lovely lie-in as no mindees till 12pm
Thanks to DP it is very rare to get a lie-in

vInTaGeVioLeT · 06/02/2008 11:20

oh i think we might do play-doh later can i call that crafting!!!! or junk models?

Tillyboo · 06/02/2008 11:39

I think some people use MN as a bit of a punchbag sometimes.

Amazing eh ? Do you think 'I really, really object to the thread title' was being serious ??

Anyway, we managed to get some of the black off after boiling

  1. Coke
  2. Detergent
  3. Dishwasher tabs

Will try scrubbing the life out of it next with salt and the fairy stuff....

It's so light & happy over here, sets you up for a lovely day

Still no crafting achieved yet, the decorator has decided to turn up tomorrow and we have no paint, Agh ! so it's off the B&Q we go.

Tillyboo · 06/02/2008 11:40

B & Q .... does looking at all the 'pwetty' coloured tins of paint ount as crafting ???

jeangenie · 06/02/2008 11:41

GM - I need an address from you m'dear, as that lil green jobbie wants to meet your neck
LK - you mean you are going out for a pub lunch, even though you had a lovely outing yesterday? this seems a little unfair to me , i've been shackled to my desk at [shudder] day job for three days this week so far and am going (quietly) potty

Nbg · 06/02/2008 11:52

Ok GM you've lost me
Did I ask about a peg board? I cant remember lol.

Am off to raid our Boyes shop and see what fabrics they have in the off cuts section

Nbg · 06/02/2008 11:55

Oh another question for softie makers.

When I made that doll on Sunday I stitched it inside out and then rolled it out the right way and stuffed it.
My problem is now, how do I stitch the bottom of it and have a neat seam?
I just cant figure it out.

jeangenie · 06/02/2008 12:14

hope some of the experts will come and let you in on the secret Nbg (if they are not too busy off having fun in pubs and shops that is ) - I always get stuck on this too and end up topstitching (is that what it is called?) in a fairly random fashion

Nbg · 06/02/2008 12:17

Its actually really bugging me.
The only thing i can think to do is to roll the fabric under, put the 2 sides together and then stitch on sewing machine but the needle i have on it won't go through that amount of fabric.

meridian · 06/02/2008 12:25

have lost the plot today... had things i wanted to get done and its just not happened... feeling really uninspired today... I did make an onyx bracelet.. and a green prehnite and amathyst necklace to match that bracelet.. but i'm not really sure about it becuse of it being on the silver wire... have a look

DH did scan some of my sketches and I wanted to do some mroe drawing today but just don't feel like it... might just go take ds for lunch and try again later tonight...

lucykate · 06/02/2008 12:32

nbg, i sew it up by hand, turn the edges inwards, exactly as you've said, then using thread that matches the fabric as close as i can find and then oversew. i'm at that point now with the cat i'm making and it's so thick to sew, going to have to bin the needle when i'm finished its so bent, double thickness of towel to get through.

hth

Gingermonkey · 06/02/2008 12:33

JG - I'll email you (I did but hotmail seems to select which messages to send and which to lose in cyber space, obv decided I didn't need the scarflet )

NBG - no, you asked LK about a peg board in ikea, and I jumped on the bandwagon! Best way to finish off dolly is to fold the edges, iron so it's neat, pop your legs in and pin in place and then either tack it first and machine (zig zag so it can be a bit messy) or sew neatly by hand (which is what I do). HTH!

meridian · 06/02/2008 12:35

gm- you done that tablecloth for your friend yet? or still avoiding it?

Gingermonkey · 06/02/2008 12:45

I've done it. It's wonky but she can be bloody grateful it's done at all!!! It was my first job of the day, and I am almost done with my blue thing as a reward for making the horrible tablecloth . It didn't help that the cat was sat on it as I was sewing so I kept having to pull him off, then he'd launch himself at it again just as I was on full (nice and straight) flow. Oh well, at least she won't be asking me again (or for any curtains, ha ha ha!!!)

LK at pub lunch. I thought DH was working today?

Gingermonkey · 06/02/2008 12:46

ps the thing I gave LK yesterday is now on my blog, if you want to have a nosy

lucykate · 06/02/2008 12:49

gm, he is "working" . he's working very hard deciding where we are going for lunch. i've managed to grab the lucy doll back, she's sat on my desk, sneezing due to all the towel dust
