New Year & a New thread - post what you hope to start/finish this week!

I have bought lots of fabby gemstones & I want to try & make some different types of jewellery, different ways of stringing etc.

DH also bought me some rainbow fluorite & I want to make myself a necklace & bracelet, although am still pondering what style I fancy!

(& my bog is sadly neglected, I must try harder!)

mrsr- everyone is lovely and friendly on this thread.. and the a&c threads ingenral.. all very helpful and encouraging...and inspiring too...

LK-- yes about tuesday... wonder what that is

lucykate · 03/02/2008 10:36

yes, note to self for tuesday, must put credit on mobile, petrol in car and wear heels (everyone else is tall, glad we'll be sat down in the cafe)

Nbg · 03/02/2008 10:37

mrsr, i had some small pots of acrylic paint that came in a kids paint set but Meridian told me that you can use any so long as the canvas is sealed.

Thats right isnt it Meri?

jeangenie · 03/02/2008 10:45

hello MrsR - welcome to our corner. We love it here (and I have totally stopped venturing elsewhere so have no idea what you are all talking about - rows? oh dear, that doesn't sound very friendly!)

I have been up til 1am last night trying to set up a website for this art and craft club I seem to be intent on running in my "spare time" I appear to have 4 students already

I even bought a domain name! but haven't figured out how to link to it yet...ho hum

the site is currently living here but will move when I figure stuff out...

please take a look and tell me what you think - HONESTLY! anything I should change or I've forgotten - I did it all when I should have been asleep (believe me I felt it when the DDs chirped up at 6am!) so I hope it makes some sense

otherwise - I am engaged in making that mobile for the elsie marley mobile swap, it's coming along in an interesting fashion - I spent last evening sewing together goats milk cartons, tracing paper and fabric. I hope the recipient hasa sense of humour!

I need to do a tea cosy for my friend who is turning 40 - paltry gift I know but it's what he asked for. I am also getting him one of those families GM mentioned as a surprise. Of his family, not mine

I finished and sent my valentines swap all the way to tasmania. I enjoyed that swap as I met the lovely jo in tas

I want to make more corsages and stuff, maybe think about sticking them up on etsy to see what happens - I've had a lot of interest as I've worn mine around and about

oh, and I bought a final ball of wool to finish a green scarflet for someone special

jeangenie · 03/02/2008 10:48

oh DINGLE - how could I forget - CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!

LK - am of your julie arkell day - can't wait to see pics of finished creatures

off now to check up what everyone else has been up to

jeangenie · 03/02/2008 10:50

oh and at sweedish craft meetup

have a lovely time

Gingermonkey · 03/02/2008 12:12

Dingle I forgot to say congrats too so sorry!!! Tell us more!!!!

JG - can I do your arts club via webcam? It's the future of classes, I think.

lucykate · 03/02/2008 12:27

jg, web site looks really good, well done

meridian · 03/02/2008 15:28

have made this bracelet today and thats about all not even a proper post.. as i'm not really here.. jsut told dh and ds to go up to coop for something

right best go now...

vInTaGeVioLeT · 03/02/2008 17:22

that bracelet is really really lovely

Whizzz · 03/02/2008 17:35

Here's my efforts for today I've called it Carnival. It has so many colours in, really they are just 'leftovers' - seeds and bugle beads. I have used Tibetan silver barrel beads to hide the ends of the strings this time rather than a cone.
I also started a seed bead kit, but am struggling with the tension so I am having to re-do the start of it. Give me plain old stringing any day.

OP posts:
Gingermonkey · 03/02/2008 17:55

whizzz - that looks so complicated, I don't know how you have the patience!!!
Meri - green and purple together are gorgeous, I love those colours. And I think your paintings look lovely too. Not long til tues now!!!!

Whizzz · 03/02/2008 18:03

GM - no that one is easy peesy - it's just individual beaded strands that are brought together at the barrel beads & attached onto the single strings.
The seed bead kit made me curse - now that one's fiddly!

Gingermonkey · 03/02/2008 18:22

whizzz - I can't thread a needle without squinting and doing that screwed up face thing (which is really attractive - I was doing it on the train friday, and I could see the man opposite me looking at me like 'wierdo' ).

I haven't put my list of to dos up this week, so I will now.

I will try and:

:: make a table cloth for BF (well, hem a piece of fabric so it'll do as a tablecloth without knackering it completely because it's Cath Kidston fabric and she'll kill me if I ruin it as she's super skint and couldn't afford a real tablecloth so bought sale fabric instead)
:: finish and send off my PIFs from my blog (from ages ago before christmas )
:: finish a custom doll order and put it on my shop
:: work on a design for a cushion to go in the shop (this will prob take me a while though, as I've never made a cushion cover before...I've previously run to Dizzy to make them for me!)
:: mail out valentine's swap thingy
:: start on mobile swap thingy (after I've actually decided on what I'm going to do)

Bugger, that's quite a long list - and I also have a certain swedish craft's day to attend

meridian · 03/02/2008 19:16

vintage-- thank you!

GM- thank you .. so I take it you like grene and purple together then?

whizzz- you have way to much pacience to string all those fiddly beads! or perhaps I have too little is closer to the truth.

jeangenie- the work site looks very good, I hope it goues really well for you.. I'm sure it will though as its such a good and important idea..

meridian · 03/02/2008 19:22

oh and my list for the week:

  • do actual painting, and prep a few more stored canvases to go up in the shop.. maybe

  • alot of drawing and sketching

  • badger dh to scan paintings and sketches for me. ( I want to expiriment with getting a t-shirt or two printed

  • order beads best bit

  • find a use for some chunky onyx beads that are being defiant.

  • knit a scarf.. and one or two more java jackets

  • swedish crafts day

  • bake brownies... not really a craft but it must be done.

might be a bit ahead of myself here.

Fubsy · 03/02/2008 20:01

Aaaargh - have found thing that attaches camera to computer, have even discovered that laptop has a card reader (doh!).

But

DD took the camera to take some pictures of one of the gerbils, and cant remember where she put it.

I would like to show all you prolific crafters that Im not just lurking on here under false pretences!

Fubsy · 03/02/2008 20:02

BTW, meridian that green and purple bracelet is lush - very like the colours in the bag Im knitting.

I may have to meet you in a dark alley to do business sometime!

Tillyboo · 03/02/2008 20:09

I feel positively hopeless at the moment - all over the shop !
We moved back in yesterday but the house is still in such a mess, the decorating has yet to be done (7 rooms, Oh I want to hide).

We have no furniture in the lounge, the dining room is piled high with stuff from all the other rooms that we have had to clear for mending, dd has a stonking cold but there is one good thing ..... NO MORE RATS using our loft as a squat !!!!

  1. Welcome Mrs Ruffalo
  2. Well done to everyone for being so productive and making such lovely stuff
  3. Well done Dingle, fab news

My aims for this week :
. sort of set up my workroom
. sort out the safety regs stuff (I have a pile of stuff from TS to wade through about self certifying - they have me in their system )
. try and make at least one thing ???
. get my haircut as I like like the wild woman from the woods
. be a more active participant in A&C, yeah, we are home now with a reliable internet connection

Because I haven't made anything & feel guilty, I thought I'd share one of my paintings Here in my blog

Only kind comments please it's not my normal styley ...

Fubsy · 03/02/2008 21:01

Ooh yes, sorry Dingle - well done!

What sort of comp was it? A craft mag? can we see the design that won?

Fubsy · 03/02/2008 22:27

Finally!

There is a pic of the hottie cover in progress on my profile.

Will add some other pics as soon as Ive taken them

And worked out how to rotate them so you dont get a crick in the neck looking at them.

Whizzz · 03/02/2008 22:31

I've just waded through everyones recent work & can I say a collective WOW! What a talented bunch. I've added a few of my photos to my shameful blog (I really must work out how to make it more interesting!)

I also tried to work out how to link it onto the MN Blog, but gave up - think it's too late in the evening!

OP posts:
Dingle · 04/02/2008 00:17

Had a very quick look around too!!! Yes, wonderful creations everyone.

Welcome from me too MrsR!! Yes a wonderful,d very inspiring and supportive bunch here!!

Still not got my crafting head on properly, been trying to get some coursework done ready for my first assignment next week in the form of a planned discussion with my assessor!

Saying that I have sat down this evening with a glass of wine, a tin of Quality Street(well the remains from Xmas)and some dusky pink cotton. I finished knitting my little piglet and started another ...er...little thing!! LOL...I have taken inspiration from a lamb pattern (will link once I have finished) but I haven't actually decided what it will end up as yet...I will see what it is like when it is nearly finished and play around with different ears, tails and facial details. Had quite a boost knitting it tonight, it is only small so already I have knitted it's little legs, body and arms.

My aims...er well...I will ease myself back in gently this week!
Finish piggie
finish the unknown knitted thingie
make 1 birthday club card
cut 40 little die cut animals

Got to update the Down Syndrome charity accounts and sort out DDs statementing review and complete more of my NVQ too!

My winning card and details are on my blog, will update as soon as my prize arrives. I have been advised it will be posted out tomorrow!!

meridian · 04/02/2008 10:36

added another bracelet to that last post, and an actual post as well. uploaded the purple and green bracelet to etsy, and considering expirimenting with similar colours again becuse its one of my fav creations so far.

fubsy- thank you.. I'm sure we can do some dark and mysterious back ally crafts sales sometime
