New Year & a New thread - post what you hope to start/finish this week!

I have bought lots of fabby gemstones & I want to try & make some different types of jewellery, different ways of stringing etc.

DH also bought me some rainbow fluorite & I want to make myself a necklace & bracelet, although am still pondering what style I fancy!

(& my bog is sadly neglected, I must try harder!)

Apologies for my snappiness - I know you have a really good community going over here, I shouldn't have brought grumpiness into it. Please ignore that post I shall ask to have it removed.

Champs · 03/02/2008 00:24

lapin, glad you feel better about it all!!and if you felt like anyone was saying you was intruding then i'm sorry for that although i couldnt see any posts to that effect, but have been offline till now. all's welcome to cut and paste

right... now thats over we can go back to glitter and sparkle and nice stuff
I hate when these threads take a downward slope as to be honest i really dont see A&C boards like that and really could do without all the he said, she said and then people "come over" to defend and then it just all goes a little crazy..... have little enough time at the moment to sift through all that which is why i skim alot of the topics/threads i know will just get me drawn in.

Anywhooo... got some goodies made today and am just doing 2 card orders and then that'll be me till the morning when i'll package the yummies.

a questiom about the blog, do we post our updates or just mn challenge updates?? like for instance, i'm gonna post piccies on my blog tommo of what i made today, would i put that also on the mn blog or do i do a post linking to my blog with the stuff on?

Nbg · 03/02/2008 08:31

of those of you going to sweedish craft day.

I WANNA COME!

The for sale boards are a real shame.
I remember when I first joined mumsnet all them 4 years ago, it was used properly and there were very rarely any problems.

I've lost the energy to get worked up about it now.

lucykate · 03/02/2008 08:32

champs, i was going to post my own stuff on my own blog still, but use the mn joint blog to post stuff which i think might be of interest to everyone.

lucykate · 03/02/2008 08:40

the for sale thing has snowballed, as it would do naturally as the whole of mn has snowballed. i've been here for 2.5 years, and even it that time i've noticed how much it's changed, but most of that change i think, is down to the shear size of the place, particularly after the 'swmnbn' stuff in the media. nowadays, i tend to just hang out in a&c, as recently, active convos needs to be renamed active arguments, and thats not just the for sale debate, there are lots of threads atm that just descend into a row

mrsruffallo · 03/02/2008 08:44

Oooh this looks nice! We do lots of creative arts and crafts here too, so I must join this thread. How does it work? What is the present challenge?
I agree, lucy kate, lots of aggression and unpleasetness recently

Gingermonkey · 03/02/2008 08:49

hello mrsruffalo - it's always nice to have a new 'face'! Basically we set ourselves a challenge for the week - things we want to get done (if anything) and then keep updating our progress. It's really an excuse to chat and to ooh and aah over things that people have made tbh.....thinly veiled with the label 'challenge'

Come on in, sit yourself down and relax!!! Cup of tea?

Nbg · 03/02/2008 08:53

Lucykate your workshop looked fab!
And those little figures are sooo gorgeous.

Hello MrsRuffalo

Gingermonkey · 03/02/2008 08:57

there's no theme btw...just whatever you fancy making. This week I have been supposed to make a tablecloth for my friend, but it's boring and I can't be bothered (and I can't sew straight after about half a yard, I give up and sigh and the sewing machine does what it fancies! ) so I have been making 3 things that are a bit secret for a pay it forward (a bit like a giveaway...the person that you give to then passes the favour on and does a good deed too...and so on...). I need to get one of my things made for LucyKate for tuesday, then yesterday I burnt my finger when I was making some rather delish roast potatoes and parsnips (they were worth it - there were parsnips, potatos, pancetta, shallots and thyme all crispy and gorgeous!) so I am struggling a bit...but I shall not be beaten! (you might have some wonky stitching, LK - call it primitive or something?)

NBG - get in the blooming car, and get down here. Nottingham is only about 18 hours from you , no distance at all!!! (how long does it take for you to get my neck of the woods now you've moved so far far away?)

Nbg · 03/02/2008 09:00

lol Ginger

To get to dh's family in Barnsley and Scisset it takes about an hour and a half.
Dh doesnt do more than 62mph on the motorway because he gets more miles to the gallon at that speed

Dressedup is in Nottingham ish and it takes her just over 2 hours to get to us.

mrsruffallo · 03/02/2008 09:02

Hello everyone!!Dash of milk, no sugar, thanks very much.
Nice to meet a friendly bunch!!
I have just noticed that my spelling in my opening post is quite appalling!!
Anyway, let me wade in with a query;
We are in the process of decorating the dc's bedroom and I would like to make something decorative that the children can help with (dd, nearly 5, ds nearly 2). Any of you lovely ladies have ideas?

Nbg · 03/02/2008 09:06

Hmmm

what about some Bunting or some hanging decorations?

This is a good tutorial off Sooz's blog for a felt and wire mobile but you could put anything you wanted on it.

Gingermonkey · 03/02/2008 09:12

Oh, yes bunting is a good idea! I saw some the other day that was raw edged and quite frayed, then just turned over the top if some ribbon or bias and zig-zag stitched along. Lots easier than the proper way, especially for the dcs to help.
Who made jackson pollock type canvases with the dcs? Was it soupdragon? Anyway - whoever it was, here's their idea - get some blank canvases, go outside (cover the ground) and then get the dcs to splat paint all over them.

NBG, lol at DH! So it would actually take about half an hour driving at normal speeds then . I though it was about that, but get North of Harrogate and I start getting confused!

mrsruffallo · 03/02/2008 09:17

Oh good ideas!! I especially like the jackson pollock type painting. May do that today!!

Nbg · 03/02/2008 09:18

We're only about 20 mins ish from Harrogate.

I've just updated my blog and theres a pic of Ethan on. He's my excuse for lack of crafting

Nbg · 03/02/2008 09:19

Forgot to add that dd did her canvas the other day and its rather good

I've got it hanging up in the Kitchen. I'll take a photo and stick it on my profile.

mrsruffallo · 03/02/2008 09:21

Congratulations,Nbq. He is beautiful. Is he your first?

Nbg · 03/02/2008 09:24

No my 3rd

A big suprise 3rd

mrsruffallo · 03/02/2008 09:26

I am considering ttc for number three. I go from feeling it would be the right thing to thinking that actually maybe two are enough depending on what kind of day I've had! How is it so far?

Nbg · 03/02/2008 09:29

Theres no denying it is hard at times but having said that my second youngest is only 17 months.
I think if he were older it would be a bit easier.
Plus you need eyes in your bum, back and toes with him.
If he shouldnt be touching it, he will be touching it!

Have put dd's canvas picture on my profile.
The canvas only cost me £3 from Matalan.

lucykate · 03/02/2008 09:59

hello mrsruffelo, the more the merrier, i really don't like it when parts of the mn board are considered as a them and us type of situation, as far as i'm concerned anyone is welcome to join in the fun

meridian · 03/02/2008 10:06
