New Year & a New thread - post what you hope to start/finish this week!

I have bought lots of fabby gemstones & I want to try & make some different types of jewellery, different ways of stringing etc.

DH also bought me some rainbow fluorite & I want to make myself a necklace & bracelet, although am still pondering what style I fancy!

(& my bog is sadly neglected, I must try harder!)

Can we see some of your paintings Meri.

I'd love to have a look at your work.

jeangenie · 01/02/2008 12:54

I've just put up the photo I am thinking of sending to my partner is the scentofwater photo swap - please take a look and tell me if you think it is too washed out - I am not sure

meridian · 01/02/2008 13:05

NBG um there are some on my blog somwhere.. here a few of those i have been tinkering with just now... will try and get a picture if the light stays...

jeangenie- the picture looks lovely.. have you edited it in photoshop or paint shop?

Nbg · 01/02/2008 13:13

They're lovely Meri.

I like the 4th one.

meridian · 01/02/2008 13:16

these are the ones i have been darkening down .. quite happy with the result.. will post later if it turns out ok

Nbg · 01/02/2008 13:19

Ooooh I luuurve them.
Gorgeous colours.

jeangenie · 01/02/2008 14:05

meridian - love your paintings, especially the second and third

I didn't edit that photo in anything - but took it in RAW format first so had to change to jpg on my camera and did somethng with the dspace (whatever the hell that is) in the process. Am worried is too washed out but maybe is just me that thinks so

meridian · 01/02/2008 14:15

jeangenie---if you want i could play around with it in paint shop, i'm not great but am ok at photomanipulation.. especially with the crappy pics that my camera takes... dh dispairs of me but wont buy me a new one... though sometimes if i am very good i can borrow one from the studio...

nbg-- thank you... i think they loook better now i have darkended them... will post later just on the comp at Frizbe's shop.

meridian · 01/02/2008 14:16

Well I have made a bracelet for a friends birthday this week - amethyst & silver and I am going to make some earrings to match. Hope she likes it!

Knitting is still going OK too, very nice to do whilst watching TV (although tomight I might have to drink some white wine instead... well it is Friday )

meridian · 01/02/2008 19:05

whizzz- the bracelet is beautiful! I love amathyst. I haven't tried earings yet.. not great at wire work yet..

Whizzz · 01/02/2008 19:30

neither am I ! Was just going to use the same amethyst bead with a silver bead top & bottom on silver wires

Isn't it funny too when you see someone wearing something you've made. A colleague asked me to make some earrings & necklace to match an outfit & she had them on today!!

Jeangenie, I love the colours in your picture as they are. But you have to like it!

Meridian, i love your pictures. the trees remind me of lino cuts for some reason.

Whizz - great bracelet. I do like these toggle clasps some of you are using in bracelets.

Gingermonkey · 01/02/2008 20:55

Blimey, I go out for the day and have to spend an hour trawling through a hundred pages of new comments!!!

Dizzy - what did you go and do that for? I now need some of that fabric (I try soooo hard to avoid supplies on etsy, because it just forces me to shop! ). I went to the creative crafts and stitching show (or something) today in Manchester with my friend, but it was rubbish, and I bought some cheese (yes, cheese, from a craft/stitching show?!) and that was it. Then I went to the manchester craft centre (again, or something!) and I think I actually died and went to heaven, each unit is a little shop with a little studio in it. I want one!!! (I don't care if I never make a penny, I just want to have a cool little studio/shop thing and hang out with the arty folk). Me and my friend were planning our cool studios - like a couple of kids!

lucykate · 01/02/2008 21:06

well, i'm sat here still shivering from getting caught in a snow blizzard on the school run this afternoon, all of a sudden, out of nowhere, there was really heavy snow, it was really bizarre. have had a hot deep bath, the heating is still on, big thick pj's, socks and dressing gown, but still cold.

have just had to send dh out to the shops, was getting together the bits and bobs i need to take to the julie arkell workshop tomorrow, and guess what i had forgotten?, newspapers!, bit essential for a paper mache project!

vInTaGeVioLeT · 01/02/2008 21:10

oooh lucykate hope you have fun at your workshop tomorrow although i feel a bit !!!!

WHIZZZ have you seen your sizzix thread someone wants to buy your machine

Whizzz · 01/02/2008 21:15

meridian · 02/02/2008 09:12

here is a new post with some not so great images of my newly darkened down paintings let me know what you think..

Nbg · 02/02/2008 09:16

Have a great day LK!

Ginger that centre sounds fab. For some reason I've got an image of the Corn Exchange in Leeds in my head.

Whizzz, love the bracelet too. Gorgeous purple colour.

Dh is a night shift tonight so I'm planning a bead shopping fest

Gingermonkey · 02/02/2008 09:44

NBG, yes, it's got a similar feel to the corn exchange. It's what the corn exchange should be instead of filled with rubbish shops that are skatey and for emo kids (oh, I am soooo old and miserable these days!). It was part of the ols market, I think, but covered - quite small, on 2 floors. Let me try and find a link.
here you go. It had a lovely cafe in it too for lunch (which was cheap - £5 for homemade soup and a big sandwich). Now, how to convince DH I need to move to Manchester and how can I get in without going on the waiting list?????

Nbg · 02/02/2008 09:49

Oh yes, that looks brilliant.
Will have to do a detour there next time SIL and I go to the Trafford Centre.
