New Year & a New thread - post what you hope to start/finish this week!

I have bought lots of fabby gemstones & I want to try & make some different types of jewellery, different ways of stringing etc.

DH also bought me some rainbow fluorite & I want to make myself a necklace & bracelet, although am still pondering what style I fancy!

(& my bog is sadly neglected, I must try harder!)

oh meridian I have just emailed you back - please don't worry about it - it's not your fault - I don't think those beads should be sold in a bead shop for jewellery makers tbh. Or maybe I am expecting too much to expect it to withstand a small fall? (I'm constantly dropping things and it really was onto a soft wood floor, nothing I would expect anything to break on) it was suc a beautifully made bracelet too and the colour was just perfect.

but please don't fret - we will work something out

think about your lovely day out instead!

(and sorry to hear about your mum )

meridian · 24/01/2008 19:14

jeangeanie- thank you.. have just e-mailed you back... i'm just a bit broken hearted about it becuse i worked so hard at it and was really proud of that bracelet... am getting quite furious at the bead shop becuse noone said anything about them being so fragile to be careful and that they are not sutible to jewellery... um hello its a bead shop for peopel to buy beads to make jewellery... sigh...

Gingermonkey · 24/01/2008 21:53

Meri - sorry to hear about your mum, hope she is ok
NBG - wow at the button box. I bought my nan's a little while ago, plus a load of her old cross stitches, some bits my mum and auntie had embroidered when they were only small and at school (my mum's were a bit rubbish, my auntie's were pretty good!) and bits and bobs. It made me giddy for weeks!!!! I even found a pin cushion I'd made her when I was about 6 or 7, a little heart shape with lace around the edge. She'd kept it, and used it all these years. I can remember making it too.
Maxi - so of your lampshade!!!!
I put pics of the spaceboys on my blog today, here.

TB - the doorstop looks great, def make more of them!!!!

Gingermonkey · 24/01/2008 21:54

bought my nan's???? Silly me - shopping in my head again!!! I got my nan's old button box!

Whizzz · 24/01/2008 22:05

Meri - I've just looked in my book & it does say Apatite is brittle & easily scratched. It wouldn't occur to me though to check for hardness.
Turquoise is another stone that can cause problems as it fades in the sun

maximummummy · 24/01/2008 23:29

gingermonkey - those spaceboys are so fantastic!!!!

re: TORD BOONTJE - it's only one of those habitat foil wrap around a bulb type not one of those astronomicaly expensive ones - but i'm still really thrilled!!!

jeangenie · 24/01/2008 23:43

they are great GM, gorgeous
meridian I have bloggedthat bracelet as I had intended as it was so pretty, and linked to your etsy shop so hopefully I can direct some (tiny!) traffic your way!

I nominated some ace bloggers tonight - wish I could have nominated you all, because i think you are all fab!

am in the throes of making some lavender hearts (inspired by lucy Lockets swap) - it's fun

finished the slouch beret and even after ripping and knitting the full length it is so tight. I knew my head was large but this is ridiculous. Have decided to cut my losses now and sport it about the town!

lucykate · 24/01/2008 23:53

hey jg, i got a bit freaked out the other day, did you know there is a poster with the nickname jeanjeannie

you have a mumsnet twin! mind you, saying that, there are millions of lucy's here

jeangenie · 24/01/2008 23:59

Noooooo! I didn't know that. Mind you I rarely go anywhere but here now I have discovered the cosiness that is A&C so as long as she doesn't pop up talking about applique I should be ok!

meridian · 25/01/2008 09:03

whizzz- I think there should have been something listed on the beads tag or somone to have said so in the shop as I just thought it was such a georgeous bead colour and all the websites i have looked up just say apatite comes in such and such colours or jsut litterally show the beads without any imformation about them being such a delicate stone to make jewellery with... I am determined not to dwell on it, well i'll try not to anyway.

jeangenie- the hat looks fab, love it... and thank you for the lovely post as well... I hope you liked the teas

dior - thanks that's really kind of you - would love it! if this one had turned out slouchy I was going to make a nice flower to go on it...

Nbg · 25/01/2008 11:48

Ginger I hope your listing the spacemen on etsy because they are fabulous! I love them.
And the ginger twins too

JG, I love the hat also. Is that you modelling it?

I started making one of those Scotty dogs off allsorts blog. Its almost done.
I've also printed off the lambkin pattern too that allsorts links too.
A little early easter pressie.

jeangenie · 25/01/2008 11:55

oh yes, all my own big noggin !

just read somewhere about blocking - maybe that might help (not my noggin - the hat!!!)

Nbg · 25/01/2008 13:07

one of those days where everything goes a bit wrong. not spectacularly bad, just a bit meh. I've made one bracelet too small, well it would be ok on somone with delicate wrists, definitly not me... so i'm having a break now.. and seriously considering a bubble bath... mutter mutter

lol at dior being a hairy trucker. I have such a lovely vision of you in my head now, anchor tattoos and rolled up shirt sleeves - beautiful!!!

Meri - just list it as a small bracelet, or for children, problem solved

Updated my shop today, (spacemen included!) with much improved pictures if I do say so myself . I bought a pop up white tent thing from Maplin to improve pic taking, and it seems to have worked. A very helpful man at Jessops told me to get it, and told me it'd make a huge difference. He was right (and told me to go to Maplin because he said it was cheaper than buying it from Jessops - how nice is that?!) So fingers crossed I make a few sales. Also, there's a shop on etsy called tiddlywinks and the lady emailed me and told me she thought my bunny was gorgeous, which I was rather chuffed with - she sells milllions of toys, and was one of the first people to buy something from me when I first started listing on etsy.

Nbg · 25/01/2008 14:26

of you being able to have a bubble bath meri.

Ginger, the pictures look really good with the brighter background.

meridian · 25/01/2008 14:47

nbg-- don't worry it didn't happen, and its normally a rare occasion if I do, normally DH comes and asked if i'm finished yet, or DS pesters me becuse he wants my left over bath water to playy in

have posted the bracelets I made today... here

no beads for a few days though, I'm going to do some knitting and maybe sketching or painting, which i haven't done.

gm- thanks... i need to take one to peieces as it has a rogue bead that dosent match and is annoying me so why take apart one when you can take apart two. sigh

Gingermonkey · 25/01/2008 15:02

they look great meri, and homemade pizza too - can I come round for tea?
