New Year & a New thread - post what you hope to start/finish this week!

I have bought lots of fabby gemstones & I want to try & make some different types of jewellery, different ways of stringing etc.

DH also bought me some rainbow fluorite & I want to make myself a necklace & bracelet, although am still pondering what style I fancy!

(& my bog is sadly neglected, I must try harder!)

I must confess - Ive bought yet more wool, and Im waiting for a cropadile to arrive in the post.

Unfortunately now Im on ravelry Im spending too much time online gathering more project ideas.

GM - can I buy "George is a Girl"?

My sister is Ginger and its her birthday in Feb so this will be great for her. Is it best to buy through Etsy? Let me know

Tillyboo · 25/01/2008 23:21

Bloody internet connection in this rented apartment is soooooo crap !

GM - New designs are fab ! I think the Ginger theme is going to be very huge and popular. Think you've hit on something there.

Meridian - Thanks for the nomination. I've been typing and posting like a demon before the bloody connection goes down again.

I was pmsl reading your 7 weird things about horses and the smell of poo and fart

Today I am going to get out my sewing machine

OP posts:
Dingle · 26/01/2008 16:39

Had my craft table today and I am feeling a bit low...even though I set my hopes really low, I barely covered the £10 charge for the table today! There were about 6 stalls selling cards, one of them -right in the foyer of the hall and another right at the entrance....

I don't think anyone did well, it is a new event and not well know or advertised..BUT I am going to have another go next month.I will try to be a bit more organised and I want to try a few new things too.

LOL...I sold 4 little knitted bears and a few people asked if I would have more next month so it looks like I will be getting those knitting needles out!!

Feel at a bit of a loose end now and need to re-assess my goals...but to what I don't know yet!!

Gingermonkey · 26/01/2008 16:53

oh Dingle, that's a shame. And certainly not an indication of your stuff - it's fab! It's really unfair when organisers have too many of the same thing - I think it ends up meaning no-one does well. But knitted toys always go down well, at the craft fairs I've done (hark at me - the seasoned craft fairy, lol!) the knitted stalls with cupcakes and toys and bits and bobs always sell a fair few bits. I have a few knitting patterns for animals (yes, I know I can't knit - I bought them so someone would knit them for me!) which I could email you if you'd like them?

Dingle · 26/01/2008 17:00

I wouldn't mind trying a few knitted cakes and food....I have some lovely soft pink cotton and want to knit a little piglet with!!

I feel I need something fun I can get my teeth into so I don't loose my enthusiasm!!

meridian · 26/01/2008 17:08

oh bless Dingle- sorry it didn't go so well, your stuff is fab though, and you should be proud that you got out there and did it... somwhere I have hidden away a pattern for a knitted cupcake that i might be able to find for you... I haven't gotten around to making it yet myself...

been out today and I know i sholdn't have but I bought some canvases from Au Natural, three skinny ones... dh is going to kill me... havent painted the last lot... so monday no jewellery must paint and paint and paint

Tillyboo · 26/01/2008 17:12

Dingle - Chin up don't despair, I had a rubbish Xmas fair and was so downhearted after all the effort but I just put it down to the wrong crowd and not a reflection on what I was selling.

Fairs are very unpredictable but it sounds like you may have hit on the knitted teddies next time.

I tried making cards as I do a bit of photography and managed to get some into a couple of shops and a gallery but the margins are so small I gave up in the end as it just wasn't worth the effort.

I bought some knitted cakes for my dd for Xmas to go with her tea-set. They were of ebay and they are fab ! They are fairy cakes with cherries on the top - look a bit like boobs but hey !
I think these would be very popular too, the ones on ebay seem to sell.

lucykate · 26/01/2008 17:36

dingle, if you're interested and since you've just mentioned knitting, i bought a knitted doll pattern magazine from a charity shop this morning. there are 18 patterns in it, each doll is 7" and it says the main body is knitted in one piece and only takes 14grms of wool oddments.

it was only 79p, too much of a bargain to leave, but i don't knit, you're welcome to it if you'd like it

i had a bril charity shop trip this morning, a pale blue pure wool jumper, which is currently in the washer being felted, a lovely wool skirt to chop up for softies, an old book of sheet music which, i'm going to commit a crime with, and rip up next week in the julie arkell workshop, and a lovely matthew rice illustrated mini globe in a little box, was 99p!!!

jeangenie · 26/01/2008 18:30

awh Dingle hard luck! - but good for you to already decide to get back out there - hope it all goes better next time. The knitties sound like the way to go. If I come across any patterns will give you a shout.

Meridian - your new stuff is lovely. I used to do that with canvases too, buy them when I already had some waiting...still have some blank ones somewhere (which I WILL get around to some day, when the parenting/day job/crafting combo gives me a moment!). Now I just do it with wool and fabric! This wool shop down the road will be the death of me - she doesn't have a great range but I pop in on thursdays (my day off with DD2) and have a chat and ALWAYS buy something - I really want to support her as I had rung up to enquire about starting a knitting shop in the very same shop but she got in before me. If it was me I would need/want/love the support.

GM and Dior - great new work - left you comments. Dior i really think those little hearts were gorgeous!

TB - am so of your garden! and your craft space! Hope the renovations go ok and you are back soon.

I am starting another knitting project (a scarflet !) even though I really want to do more thinking about my craft classes for kids and doing some projects to get on etsy. Am also thinking of taking a few bits and pieces around some local shops (I have someone interested in tea cosies, although I will have to design my own pattern as I would breach copyright selling that loopy one I assume) - does anyone else sell this way? I bet the margins are awful...the knitting is obviously total craftcrastination...

nbg you made me but I assume you are just plain mad?! You couldn't even see me in that photo (purposefully) and I don't think I have ever been called pretty n my life - but thank you, you total loon!

jeangenie · 26/01/2008 18:36

knew I had forgotten something - LK I am of your charity shop run this morning - my local ones in SE London are all so expensive now. I have been on the lookout for some old tweed jackets or trousers for ages now and I wanted to make some corsages but they are all over a tenner, for the mankiest old thing . And I got some old china bowls today, they were £1.99 each - should have been 99p the lot! but I need bowls since DD2 threw our last one across the kitchen in a rage (GM - you were interested in a price for her - I'll stick her on etsy - just hang on a sec...)they are pretty but I need a new source of stuff - might try battersea car boot sale - that might be better...

Gingermonkey · 26/01/2008 18:57

Thank you JG, that's excellent news. Do you prefer paypal or cheque?

LK - ooooohhhh !!! my local charity shops are naff too.

jeangenie · 26/01/2008 19:18

just send me one of your creations - seems like a fair exchange and solves my january budget issues. Your guys don't eat much right?

lucykate · 26/01/2008 19:26
