New Year & a New thread - post what you hope to start/finish this week!

I have bought lots of fabby gemstones & I want to try & make some different types of jewellery, different ways of stringing etc.

DH also bought me some rainbow fluorite & I want to make myself a necklace & bracelet, although am still pondering what style I fancy!

(& my bog is sadly neglected, I must try harder!)

Love your bracelets meridian!

Quite happy with what I have made today, managed another 2 cards, a jotter and a notebook!!

lucykate · 23/01/2008 15:02

i'm here, doing a bit of sewing but it's school run time in 10 mins

meridian · 23/01/2008 17:47

Dingle- thank you.. no need to be because your latest creations are lovely, I really love the lady ones.

\i've listed the bracelets on etsy, so deftly avoidied any knitting, and I'm not out of clasps till tommorow, unless I scavange them from my firsts bracelets and redo those, which could keep me very busy.

I'm here - had a day out with DH buying some fabric to cover an ottoman for our bedroom, and to get DD a new light in the sale at Laura Ashley (and then I bought some bedding and some little flower hook things to match the light for her too....why can't I just go and get the one thing I need?)
I was soooo impressed with DD's new light - it was supposed to be £125, but was reduced to £48. It's a bit big TBH, but it was a bargain, so I couldn't resist!
DH bought me a magnetic hedgehog today as well to put pins on when I'm sewing, because I tend to drop them on the table, or put them in my mouth rather than using the pin cushion . This way I can just drop them onto my hedgehog.

Kimi · 23/01/2008 19:23

waves to GM

Miaou · 23/01/2008 19:23

Well I'm interrupting my cardigan-making to knit up a quick pair of mittens for ds1. He is at that age where he is really reluctant to wear them, but cries because his hands are cold! So I am knitting him a pair of yellow ones with lions on as he loves lions. However it's not looking promising - I showed him the first one but as soon as he realised it was a mitten he threw it back at me!

Whizzz · 23/01/2008 19:54

Lovely stuff meridian - the colours you use are goregous

I've had a manic day today but have
finally finished my Doorstop.

I'd appreciate some feedback as it's the first one I've attempted. After my headache yesterday with TS and the Testing House, making this has cheered me up no end

grannyslippers · 23/01/2008 22:21

I love the doorstop Tillyboo. It's a great idea to put a door on it.

I made one for us last summer (pyramid shaped) and it's bog ordinary plain green canvas because I couldn't think how to embellish it appropriately! How tall is it then? mine took about 2kg rice but it certainly keeps the door put.

Tillyboo · 23/01/2008 22:41

Hi grannyslippers, love the name !

The stop is about a foot hight, it was meant to be skinner but didn't quite turn out like that.

I have no idea how much rice I've put it in, loads, the top 3" is polyfill though. Need a wheelbarrow to cart it around !

meridian · 23/01/2008 23:12

dior- thank you, and yes I'll do my best for you if you want an order. just e-mail me and tell me what you would like me to create for you.

whizzz- thank you, I have always been addicted to pretty stones, have lods of pendants, and that I can be creative and craft with them is even better. though I'm note sure my DH thinks so.. or his wallet

meridian · 24/01/2008 09:47

GM- going to post that pug to my mother tommorow with some other goodies, her birthday isn't till the day after valentine's but she had a fall recently in a big chain supermarket and she didn't go to the doctor and its not got better, so she now has gone to the doc and has to have surgery, which will cost my parents $10K and they are going to have to sue the shop to recoup the cost. The floor was wet and she slipped and fell. SHe won't tell me about it though I only know becuse my dad e-mail it to me... sigh..

Dingle · 24/01/2008 10:09

Oh meridian, hope it all works out OK,,,,I am sure little pug will cheer her up!!

Really did well yesterday, first I made another 2 cards, a jotter and a notebook!! Then in the evening I made 2 baby cards for stock, my BILs card and 3 more mens cards for stock!! I am supposed to be doing the Down Syndrome accounts and housework today though!!(yawnnnn!)

Update!

make 10 cards for stock done lost count but think it's about 12 now!)
possibly make some little extras for craft table! done 6-notebooks
make a birthday card for BIL done
make x1 Feb Birthday club card
make a girls 11th birthday card
make SIL birthday card
another Valentine card for DH!

you can see them here

Nbg · 24/01/2008 10:29

Tillyboo its wonderful! I really love it.

Meri, again lovely bracelets.

Ginger, our Laura Ashley permanently seems to have a sale on here.
My last bargain from there was a light shade too.

Well my buttons arrived yesterday and theres loads of them but I havent had the time to play because we had a dog behaviourist here for nearly 5 hours in the afternoon trying to sort out our Beagle!
Dh also slipped out that he thinks that I should be making jewellery for the craft fair and that he'll fund my making costs so I'm very pleased about that.

And this morning we're babysitting a friends dd so theres 4 children and pest control here for a stray Rat that decided to visit yesterday

Will I get anything done today?

I doubt it!

Tillyboo · 24/01/2008 10:39

Eew, Rats ! We had a teenager rat in our loft the other week but he is NO more.
The noise, blimey .... sounded like he was having a rave up there.

He'd been up there some time as he'd made a nest and had lots of little toilets (Ugh!) dotted about the loft.
I want it fumigated now, the thought of all that wee and poo up there makes me gag !!!!

Nbg · 24/01/2008 13:36

Oh jeeez it really makes my skin crawl.

We had one just before christmas last year and it had managed to get into a cavity wall via an opening next to the outside water tap pipe.
Luckily the cavity wall was accessable because it was a large wooden windowsill that came off. Unluckily it was a pregnant female rat that had made a nest so they set poison down but what they didnt tell us is that the poison makes them very very thirsty.
Fast forward to the next morning and the bloody thing had chewed its was through the plaster board into the kitchen and also chewed the dishwasher pipes and electric wires and flooded my kitchen!

We did catch the dirty fat hairball though

Today the pest guy has set a trap up in our yard. We live in a really old cottage next to the village local pub so its almost perfect grounds for Rats.

Anyway, enough of my Rat rantings
I'm off to put pictures up of my buttons on to the blog.

Nbg · 24/01/2008 13:51

Heres my lovely stash

The tin is really deep and theres hundreds of buttons in them.

Who'd have thought that at the age of 25 I'd be so easily pleased with a tin of old buttons.

maximummummy · 24/01/2008 14:48

oohhh Nbg i covet your buttons!!!!

i'm actually feeling inspired at the moment and if i can keep away from the internet i might get some CRAFT done!!

it's not a craft achievment BUT i have finally managed to get something i've been desperate for for ages . . . . .
it's a TORD BOONTJE lampshade i can't wait for it to arrive

get a life maximummummy

Nbg · 24/01/2008 17:31

Now that i am envious of maxi!

I love Tord Boontje stuff.

meridian · 24/01/2008 18:09

NBG- the buttons are lovely!

we had a lovely day out at Caudwell's Mill today, with frizbe, and her girls and a couple other friends and their kids too. it cheered me up from worrying about my mother, but then I got an e-mail from jeangenie to say that she dropped the bracelet I made on the floor and two of the beads broke, I feel wretched about it, I never looked up the apatite beads to see about their hardness or suitability to jewellery.. I just saw it loved the colour and that it was real stone. I assumed it was ok becuse it was in a bead shop..

i'm so sorry jeangenie
