Hi Grin another nice clean thread for us to drop balls of yarn all over Grin

tizwozliz · 26/01/2021 20:03

Nothing much to report here, just jumping on the new thread.

lucysmam · 26/01/2021 20:04

Checking in!

Myshitisreal I'd be interested to know how your pockets turn out - that type of scarf is one of the many things on my "I want to make one of those.." list.

I finally caved and made the black crewmate - all bloomin' day it's taken me, around work & kitchen table school Hmm.

I'm still undecided as to what to do about my cardi yarn dilemma. I'm leaning more towards buying the aran the pattern calls for, but doubling up the black dk as it doesn't need much of that.

I'm just left wondering what to do with 6 100g balls of while dk then though. I don't know anyone who's pregnant so can't use it for gifts there.

I thought maybe a tree skirt for Christmas...maybe.

lucysmam · 26/01/2021 20:05

I forgot the picture. One horn came out bigger than the other 🤷‍♀️

@lucysmam he looks good! I like the quirky bigger horn!

I've tried to make my mum a little valentines gnome to send her around Valentine's Day to cheer her up and I can't get over how bloody fiddley it is Shock new found respect for all those that do amigurumi!

Also the third thread! Wow Grin

Hi all checking in!

My thoughts are with those on here going through loss right now, big virtual hugs to you all

Managed to get part 1 finished tonight! Very happy with it so far! Cannot believe I have created this!! (For those who are new I was given my first hooks at christmas!) Really chuffed right now 😀

That looks fabulous givemebooks, excellent job!

Thanks sophs, dd1 says he is "swag" which I take to mean he's good Grin.

I was looking for crochet "hug" ideas to send to my friend who lost her mum at the weekend, earlier on, haven't come across much yet that appeals to me.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 26/01/2021 20:50

givemebooks your CAL is looking great!

Does anyone have any tips for dc in the same place? Mine, especially when I’m changing yarn at the same time, are a bit wonky. Treble crochet in the same place, seems to be fine, I think because it’s the two movements. I don’t know if other people are finding this move tricky. The first loop is no problem but then it’s a mixture of too loose and too tight at the same time Confused for the second loop to pull through.

sophs29 · 26/01/2021 21:03

@givemebooks that looks great! well done! you should be very proud of yourself! Smile

@lucysmam aww that's sad! How about a cute little teddy and print a label saying 'thinking of you' or something similar? Could use your white DK for it too maybe!

sophs29 · 26/01/2021 21:07

This is a cute idea @lucysmam not sure if you have access to a printer tho!

lucysmam · 26/01/2021 21:12

Is that from Etsy sophs? I scrolled on there earlier too but didn't spot those. That could have been because I was helping feed Errol & do a million other things all at once though 🤷‍♀️

I actually quite like your bear idea -I saw these that look a bit like care bears the other day & saved the pattern for future use. I wonder how quickly one would work up 🤔

CrochetBug · 26/01/2021 21:20

@lucysmam how about a heart with arms. I'm sure I've seen a pattern for them somewhere.

sophs29 · 26/01/2021 21:21

Yeah @lucysmam I literally typed 'crochet hug' haha! Think I'll steal the idea and make my mum one Smile

Oh my gosh I love the little Care Bears! That would be adorable!
I have no idea. But you seem quite speedy Grin

lucysmam · 26/01/2021 21:46

CrochetBug that's the kind of thing I was originally thinking but I didn't have much joy searching for.

I'm not sure about speedy sophs Grin I feel quite slow but that's probably, at least partly, to do with the fact that I tend to pick up/put down in quite short bursts while I'm doing other stuff or waiting for things (like the washer that thinks if it says 1 minute on it's display, it must unlock the door & sing at me in ten minutes Hmm )

CrochetBug · 26/01/2021 21:49

How about these @lucysmam? Obviously you could just make 1 not a pair.

lucysmam · 26/01/2021 22:03

They're sweet CrochetBug and likely to be quicker than the bears too. I have some dusky pink yarn that I think my friend would like so will see if I can squeeze one in tomorrow to post on Thursday.

Dd1 has just seen me reading the bear pattern & would like a purple one 🙄 I will eventually get to something for me!

Bigger, multicoloured, crewmate is finally properly started - I'm much happier with the tension this time. His leg dosn't seem very long though so I'm going to add a couple of rounds more, then add a couple to his body as well

Hello all! I've not been crocheting or chatting on the thread this evening , as I've been having a virtual social life this Shock. It was nice meeting up with some old university friends on Zoom, but I'm knackered now - I'm obviously out of practice with social interaction! Grin

CrochetBug · 26/01/2021 22:23

What's a social life? Grin

Kate105 · 27/01/2021 08:08

Hello! Nothing new to report but just marking my spot! I’m still very curiously watching the CAL progress. Looks great!

yarncakes · 27/01/2021 08:16

Hi all. Just wondering if anybody has ever bought joblot yarns before? Just browsing on ebay and one advertised for 14.99, 1000g mixed yarns which is OK for me. If anyone has, was it worth it? I really need go buy a new stash of yarn! I'm getting mine from Poundland at the mo. Poundstretchers has taped it off.

lazylinguist · 27/01/2021 08:23

Well exactly, CrochetBug! I've clearly forgotten how to have one. Blush

This just popped up on my FB feed. I'm not at all sciencey or mathsy, but I do find it fascinating to think about how knitting 'works' and how stitches combine to make different types of knitted fabric!

OP posts:
lazylinguist · 27/01/2021 08:26

I haven't, yarncakes, but it sounds like a great idea- exciting to see what you'd get!

OP posts:
sophs29 · 27/01/2021 08:33

I've been watching a couple of these @yarncakes I don't see a problem with them, and if I hadn't done my wool warehouse order I probably would have tried one of those bundles!

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 27/01/2021 08:56

My DM bought something similar from Deramores, a bundle worth 70 for 20 or something. It was a real mix of weights and fibres and colours. She was pleased with it and said their acrylic was lovely and soft.
