@sophs29 was it you making something for your mum being upset? What did you decide on??? ♥

@lazylinguist sending a hug your way. It sounds like you've had a difficult time. Have you started your iron tablets? I got a few similar health Bombs on Monday so I need to start a whole new set of tablets today. All the food stuff sounds terrible, I love food so much. It would be devastating to have to cut out gluten.

Thank you for all the advice on the border. Mum decided she didn't want pockets on her scarf, glad she told me before I made them. I'm now increasing the size of the scarf as much as possible by putting on a massive border. This scarf really hadn't went to plan despite being easy. Mum wanting it bigger than the pattern we enough to blow my minds and confuse me. I wish she'd just asked for a lap blanket.

My purple special wool arrived. Reader, its the prettiest thing I've ever seen 😍 it's so incredibly fine though I think I'll have to crochet it in two strands. It has added bonus sparkle and is incredibly soft. I've made a small swatch to play with it in two strands.

I've also taught myself how to write mosaic patterns. It made me a bit cross eyed but I'm going to get to test it today I hope. Am I the only mosaicer?

Love seeing all the pics. The CAL is strangely intriguing to watch. Can't wait to see what's next.

Oh also feeling sock jealousy, all you bloody geniuses ☺️

Oh also feeling sock jealousy, all you bloody geniuses ☺️
THIS. One day I will learn! Especially interested in that witchcraft of knitting two socks at once that someone mentioned on the old thread?!
lazylinguist · 28/01/2021 13:17

Ha! Myshitisreal - how can you call making socks genius when you're writing your own mosaic patterns? Shock I love your purple wool. Hug appreciated btw. Picking up my iron tablets (and bowel screening kit ) this afternoon.

Disclaimer: I wasn't meaning to diminish anyone else's sock achievements Grin. I just consider writing patterns an advanced stage of wizardry!

Were you looking for an among us pattern that started from the legs up
@lucysmam ?

I used this pattern for mine which starts with the legs first

www.instagram.com/p/CFKZtcJhGZA/

All the things i've done lately start from the head and work down to the legs and I find it much more fiddly that way, the first leg is ok, but i find the attached first leg gets in the way when trying to crochet the second one.

CrochetBug · 28/01/2021 13:24

Hey... I'm only speedy because I don't have any kind of life at all. Literally. Lockdown is barely any different to normal life for me.

@lucysmam I've been using this one.

@Myshitisreal yes it was, she's just feeling a bit down (as we all probably are), she's disabled so house bound anyway but makes it worse when she can't see us and her grandchildren, she always jokes about not receiving anything for valentines so I'm making her a little Valentine gnome (well trying) and I'll get my DS1 to make her a card and we'll post it closer to Valentine's Day Smile

That wool is beautiful! the sparkles are just stunning! But yes very fine! what are you making with it again?

CrochetBug · 28/01/2021 13:27

Cross posted with @tizwozliz Grin

lazylinguist · 28/01/2021 13:36

Hey I'm only speedy because I don't have any kind of life at all.

Me neither. I don't really know how I manage to fill my days up and fail to have time for more crochet Confused . Dog-walking, housework and faffing about , basically. So, same as normal life, minus a bit of teaching!

Two socks at once 🤯I mean I would do that by crocheting them at the same time, say 5 rows on. One, 5 on the other. More to get uniformity (do that with fingerless gloves) but I'm guessing there's someone out there with two socks hanging off a cable?

Sophs your poor mum, that's so lovely of you ♥ I'm sure I't will be so cute. Can't wait to see pictures. There are some gorgeous buntings out there which was my late suggestion. Or butterfly bunting.

Re the wizardry 🧙‍♂️ 😂

You know, I've learnt that about crafts. The truth is that anything is clear as long as you understand what you're doing and can follow good clear instructions. I like things to be logical and it's really very mathematical based. For years I was so frightened of patterns, and anything that wasnt a fairly simple blanket. It's only now (furlough, bad health) that I'm able to spend so much time crocheting. Things like socks and amigurumi completely blow my mind. I'd love to be able to make my mum a beautiful angel or fairy 🧚‍♂️ but I just don't know that I have the ability or confidence.

I think a lot of us are in the same boat. I'm using it to completely envelope myself. I've had to stop watching the news etc, so crochet is just helping me breathe and keeping me sane tbh. It's all wizardry isn't it. There are so many people who can't pick up a hook or needle at all.

My purple wool is for scarf hat gloves for myself, but I might just start on scarf as it has to be double. I can't wait to see how the colours play out. I might even try the tunisian hook but I'm very new to it and it's very fiddly (but great seeing the stitches ping off 😂)

SoupDragon · 28/01/2021 15:05

I am a late starter on this and am just using whatever I can lay my hands on. Most likely I will end up donating it when it's done.

It has no colour scheme as such but each section should work within itself and with the section before.

@Myshitisreal I'll upload some pictures soon, I just need to sew on a few embellishments now! I promised DS1 we could bake though, so off to do that first Grin (we had to wait for an electrician to come and replace a broken switch behind my washing machine..turns out my bread maker on the shelf above had moved and turned off the switch to the main thing) how embarrassing hahaha!
Oh a scarf in that is going to be lovely! I love the different colours in it! Even your swatch looks so interesting!

@SoupDragon wow that's lovely! I love that you can literally use what you have lying around with this pattern!

lazylinguist · 28/01/2021 15:16

That looks great SoupDragon - welcome aboard the CAL!

Myshitisreal - no, I know what you mean about socks actually. There is something about the construction of them that's a bit magical. Even though I've made loads of them now, I still stop and admire and kind of go "Woah - how does it do that?!" when I've turned the heel. Grin

Probably not so great that I have virtually the entire Stylecraft Special DK colour range lying around... 😂

lazylinguist · 28/01/2021 16:19

Grin Sounds pretty great to me!

SoupDragon · 28/01/2021 16:20

At least half of it I can reach without leaving the sofa 😂

This is why I am not allowing myself to buy any more yarn.

Mums little gnome is done, she was very fiddly but now I've done one I think I'd find another quite easy and actually enjoyable haha Grin

Snackz · 28/01/2021 17:49

@sophs29 that gnome is adorable!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 28/01/2021 18:03

So yarn party round at soupdragons when we can all go out again? 😉

sophs that is so cute, I’m sure you’re mum will love it. It’s a really sweet idea to send her a valentines.

fuckrightoff · 28/01/2021 18:13

What's the CAL everyone is following please? Is there a link?

SoupDragon · 28/01/2021 18:31

I'm fairly confident I can accommodate with yarn for everyone 😂😂

The gnome is fabulous. A gnome has been on my huge list of Things To Make for a while.

CrochetBug · 28/01/2021 18:38

@SoupDragon do you live in my house? Although I have more aran than dk.

Lovely gnome @sophs29

@fuckrightoff we are doing the Spicer Life CAL. There was a link, but Soup bought so much yarn to the new thread that I can't seem to find it. Maybe we didn't bring it from the old thread Grin

SoupDragon · 28/01/2021 18:40

Don't blame me.
