Evening all, the gnome is adorable! Absolutely want to have a go at making one!

@soupdragon your CAL ia gorgeous, so happy so many CAL blankets are been made! Love having a place to share pics and idea as I have no one to talk crochet with in real life!!

I am on the boarder of my sons crazy blanket now! Currently measures about 90x90 square have already done a row of Dc in the blue

Have decided to do 2 treble rows then a row of Dc or maybe treble?? Not sure in the coloured wool again and then a final row of blue trebles and a row of dc in the blue to finish

Hope it looks cute :)

Wow @givemebooks that's so good! love how the navy sets it all off! what a lucky boy!

givemebooks · 28/01/2021 19:10

@sophs29 Thanks :) its for my youngest son, he has autism and loves soft blankets!! He chose the wool it was a no brainer really as he loves primary colours, made me a bit cross-eyed after a while through!! Ha!!

sophs29 · 28/01/2021 19:12

@givemebooks oh it's perfect then! well done!
Haha I bet!! - I was wearing a stripey top the other day whilst crocheting and I had to go and change because the more I looked down, the stripes were giving me a headache haha!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 28/01/2021 19:58

lucysmam · 28/01/2021 20:07

@sophs29 I love the gnome! Adding to my list of things to have a go at again...

@InTheNightWeWillWish that looks brilliant, I really like the turquoise/blue you've used.

lazylinguist · 28/01/2021 20:15

I particularly like your shell bit, InTheNightWeWillWish!

givemebooks - that blue border is great with the colours in the blanket. Hope your ds loves it!

@lucysmam I’m using deramores studio yarn. The turquoise fans are malachite and the top row is jade. Very little difference between the two colours but I’d say the malachite just has a bit darker and is probably my favourite.

sophs29 · 28/01/2021 20:32

Oh good @lucysmam Grin
And @InTheNightWeWillWish that looks good! I love the colours, they're not quite bright or pastel, they're in between! they're so nice! Smile

InTheNightWeWillWish · 28/01/2021 21:09

sophs thanks, I was doubting my colours until I got to the fans but the fans seem to have brought it back together.

So a friend’s DH is an amateur photographer. Friend has also recently taken up crochet and wants to know if/when it is acceptable to make her DH take proper photos of her crochet work. She’s getting a bit fed up of the shadow from her phone on her photos. Again, this is a friend I’m asking for. Obviously... Grin

CrochetBug · 28/01/2021 21:12

@InTheNightWeWillWish love the colours. I was the same with mine, worried the random stash wouldn't work. But every time I added another row I loved it even more!

When are we starting part 2?

sophs29 · 28/01/2021 21:15

@InTheNightWeWillWish tell your friend that I think anytime is acceptable Grin

givemebooks · 28/01/2021 21:17

@InTheNightWeWillWish beautiful work!! And another one I am loving the colours of!! I'm kind of obsessed with all the CAL blankets we have going on!!

I am 3 rows into the edging of my sons blanket, its curling :( been new i think its my tension trying to relax a bit but when i finish i will try the spray and dry tip I read online :)

InTheNightWeWillWish · 28/01/2021 22:04

crochetbug I think I’m going to start part two on Saturday but I think lazy said she was going to start tonight.

sophs I’ll pass the message on to my friend Grin

Finished my friend’s (genuinely) wrist warmers and mostly happy with them. I debating whether to do her a matching hat. I’ve started MIL’s hufflepuff scarf but can pick that up and put it down quite easily when I start CAL part two.

lazylinguist · 28/01/2021 22:47

I was going to do the first row of Part 2 but didn't in the end. Happy to start tomorrow or Saturday.

InTheNightWeWillWish - maybe you could share some of the photos of your 'friend's' crochet on here! Wink

I can't believe how many posts there are to catch up on when I come back to this thread. The project photos are such a lovely thing to look at.

InTheNightWeWillWish the colours on your CAL are gorgeous! I'm sure I've seen people offering classes on how to take the perfect Instagram photo of your crafts so using your in-house photographer instead seems like a very economical decision Grin

Plus you won't be the only one, one of my photographers took this one earlier. Despite being almost 3 he takes better photos than DH Grin

Hello all, I’d like to join you if I may. I have been following thread 2 in bed at night when I can’t sleep, it has been about the only thing that has helped me to switch off. A lovely calming influence. In the nicest possible way, you have been sending me to sleep Flowers. So much so that I have been inspired to dust off the old hooks myself. I forgot just how relaxing having a WIP or 5 can be and think that’s exactly what I need right now.

I learned to knit and crochet a few years ago but only to basic standard with simple patterns. Have done a bit of amigurumi too, which I find fairly straightforward because the tension seems to come more naturally for me than with normal crochet patterns. Not done anything for years though. No idea why?! But as Celine(?) would say, it’s all coming back to me...

Feeling so inspired by you all. Love the idea of being able to attempt a fairisle type pattern or socks! And have never seen the mosaic stitch before, looks mind boggling interesting. I am going to start with the CAL, I know I’m well behind but I think it will be a good warm up project for practising tension and terminology again. Have just ordered myself a neck light so I can see what I’m doing in my dim little corner of the sofa.

Can’t wait to get stuck in! Am now off to start thread 1 Grin

KnitWitHurlOne · 29/01/2021 00:31

He has perfectly centred your feet Flavia - think you need to hire him immediately! Grin

CrochetBug · 29/01/2021 00:45

I will also wait until Saturday to start part 2. Its not really a CAL if I go ahead is it Grin

spamm · 29/01/2021 02:21

@SoupDragon and @InTheNightWeWillWish - your colors look so good. I do love @lazylinguist's white and gray, but all the colored CALs look amazing too.

@sophs29 - that gnome is so sweet, how clever!

@givemebooks - the colors in that blanket are wonderful. I think your border looks very nice in contrast.

I always feel so behind on the thread because I am 5 hours behind you all. I need to catch up, I am only half way through. Just finished the cowl for my sister. It is so simple, but nice and cozy. I have also just bought the wool to make @lazylinguist's cowl too, as I love that pattern. I am supposed to be reducing my stash of wool but keep on adding to it.

In other great news, my parents both got their first vaccines today. So that is exciting!

Off to catch up with the rest of the thread.
