@lucysmam If you are up for making a small blanket and giving it away, Woolly Hugs have an "Angel Hug" blanket project where they give a white blanket to bereaved parents.

I just finished reading that article "lazy* that's facinating.

I finished my socks last night and am wearing them today. I'm always amazed at how much warmer wool is than even thick cotton socks, my feet are toasty Smile

lucysmam · 27/01/2021 09:47

Thanks for the link SoupDragon, I'll have a proper read after English this morning (🙄) & have a look for a pattern.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 27/01/2021 13:20

lazy that’s a really interesting article. I’ve always had a bit of block on maths, that I can’t do maths but I use it in a surprising number of ways. School should have probably tried to teach me maths through crochet.

yarncakes I got a mystery bundle from Deramores as I started crocheting. The yarns were all nice and I got multiple balls of each in the bundle but I’m still working out what to do with a few of the balls but good for filling out my general stash.

Hello, this is my 2nd try at posting on a site which isn't getting too full. Have just finished this but put it on previous site. It isn't perfect as I've found a dropped stitch which needs rescuing. I live in hope of completing a pair which hasn't had to be frogged at some point. Socks are becoming addictive.

lazylinguist · 27/01/2021 13:34

Wow, ginghamtablecloths - stunning sock! Is that a pattern from the Ann Budd sock book? It looks familiar. I haven't tried any cable etc on socks yet - just stocking stitch and rib. That colour is fantastic!

Oh wow @ginghamtablecloths so impressive! I'd love to be able to make my own socks one day! I second what lazy said, I love the colour!

lazylinguist · 27/01/2021 15:41

Just checked back at the end of the last thread, and I see they are the Ann Budd ones - fab, I love that book!

I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself today. Ongoing on-and-off gastro symptoms since October which I was pretty sure were a food intolerance, but blood test says I'm anaemic, so doc wants to check me out for anything more sinister Sad. I know it's probably nothing horrible, but I'm fretting a bit and can't settle to anything. Going to have a shower and try and concentrate on some CAL.

NEW THREAD EXCITEMENT 🎉 🥳

Not caught up but will do so later on . Can anyone help a quicky.?

Crochet, uk terms

How many stitches on a border for each stitch...

I've a combination of the following I need to build a border round.

Doubles (1 stitch?)
Half treble (2 around the post )
Trebles (2 around the post ?)

My scarf is long stripes of differing height, and I mean the first row going down the side of those stripes 🤔

Not sure I'm explaining well. I usually follow a pattern so I'm a bit thrown

sophs29 · 27/01/2021 16:17

Oh no @lazylinguist I'm sure it's nothing serious but I can definitely understand why you're worried!
Hopefully the CAL takes your mind off it a little bit and fingers crossed all is okay with your blood tests! Thanks

lucysmam · 27/01/2021 16:18

Hopefully a shower & some crochet will help you relax a little lazylinguist Thanks

gingham the sock looks really good. I love snuggly bed socks...maybe I ought to have a go at those too!

I'm just about to join 1st leg to 2nd on the bigger crewmate -not sure whether I ought to join with a ss or sc though & the pattern's no help Confused. It's row 11 if anyone sees while I'm making a brew; if not, I'll wing it & see what happens

givemebooks · 27/01/2021 16:31

Hi everyone ☺ hope all of you are well, i am spending the next few days working on my sons blanket its just a large granny square blanket

I asked for advice on a simple border and @lazylinguist helped so following advice I am doing a simple Dc then 2 rows of trebbles and finishing with a row of Dc

But I ordered the same wool as the CAL so my blanket is caron wool made using a size 5 hook and the navy wool for the border suggests a 4 hook and is thinner wool

Shall i use the 4 or the 5 hook??

InTheNightWeWillWish · 27/01/2021 16:38

lazylinguist fingers crossed for you, hopefully you can get your tests sooner rather than later then you can relax a bit Flowers

givemebooks I think when you use a bigger hook for the wool, it’s just a bit looser. The yarn that I’m using for the CAL recommends 4mm hook but I’m doing the CAL with the 5mm hook. Although I should have probably sized back down for Grannies, it’s mostly looking ok and my stitches aren’t too loose.

lucysmam · 27/01/2021 16:38

I've no idea really @givemebooks but I think I'd be tempted to swatch both with a 4.5 hook & see how close they are - sort of see if it's a good middle ground iyswim?

elsiebetts · 27/01/2021 16:52

I must try crochet again! Failed terribly last time.

CrochetBug · 27/01/2021 17:06

@lazylinguist hope everything is OK and the tests come back quickly and provide some answers.

@Myshitisreal thats how I do borders.

@givemebooks split the difference and go for a 4.5 Grin

@ginghamtablecloths thats a beautiful sock. I love the colour. I really do need to learn to knit.

lazylinguist · 27/01/2021 17:44

Myshitisreal, when I did the Seaside Stashbuster blanket, the pattern advised 1dc into the dc row ends, 2dc into the trebles and 3 into the shell ends (but the shells were quite big on that blanket and involved double trebles.) Oh and 3dc in each corner. But it did say to just crochet around evenly and see how many dc per stitch seemed appropriate for your blanket.

My DS just sent me this. As a lot if us seem to be dog and/or Among Us fans its seemed appropriate. Grin

tizwozliz · 27/01/2021 17:59

@lucysmam I'd just go straight into single crochet on the 2nd leg to join, no slip stitch

lucysmam · 27/01/2021 18:02

Thanks tizwoz, that's what I did so good to see that's what you'd have done too!

tizwozliz · 27/01/2021 18:04

Hope you're not waiting too long for test results @lazylinguist . My minor gastro symptoms and anaemia turned out to be coeliac disease, not too sinister in the grand scheme of things but a pain in the bum. I miss Danish pastries so much!

lazylinguist · 27/01/2021 18:27

Poor you, tizwozliz. I was pretty convinced mine is either coeliac or lactose intolerance, maybe both (apparently coeliac can cause temporary lactose intolerance Confused). I was pretty sure it was food-related because my symptoms went away completely after a few weeks of no gluten and dairy, but the doctor has made me doubt myself. I had to go back to eating gluten for 6 weeks so that I could have the coeliac test (haven't had those results yet).

lucysmam · 27/01/2021 18:46

This pattern I've found doesn't make sense after the ch3 & connect legs part. Its says crochet around, which I have -I have 54 stitches to get back to the first stitch of that round.

But then it wants me to crochet 24 rounds of 51 stitches - with no decreases, which I can't work out so am assuming 51 should actually be 54.

Surely if I crochet 3sc either side of the joining chain, 24 times, I'm going to end up with a very strangely shaped character? Or am I maybe missing something? I'm half tempted to work the top half from bottom up, then join each leg with a row of sc, then work out how many stitches there should be to give it the 'A' shape.

CrochetBug · 27/01/2021 19:02

@lucysmam if you do the rounds of 54 (I would assume 51 was a typo) then its basically a bigger version of the ones I make. They do come out the right shape!

tizwozliz · 27/01/2021 19:11

Yes, I would just do 54, then decrease to the 48 by doing 7sc, 1 dc * 6
