Weekly Challenge Thread (New one, can't find old one ????)

I don't know what's going on but this is the third post I've tried. If this fails I'm going to give up.

Anyway, I can't seem to find the old thread for some reason, my laptop is doing funny things so maybe it's at my end?

Anyway, I cannot see what you all have achieved so far this week but here is my blog with what I have done or you can have a peep in my profile but the pictures are quite diddy

Oh and whizz, they have some decent video tutorials for crochet on videojug.

Tillyboo · 05/11/2007 19:44

Lordy, sorry to hear about everyone's problems.
The bag business is awful and sooo many people feeling icky. I hope everyone is feeling better very soon.

I too am feeling a but rubbish, got a sore throat so another cold on the way I fear.

However, I found a little bit of motivation from somewhere (I think it's called Green & Blacks Mint chocolate) and finished a little cutie this evening.
She's very cute but I'm having trouble convincing dd that she is going to the sale - mind you, she'll probably come back home with us .....
My aims for this week are

  1. Xmas decs
  2. Finish some keyrings
  3. Possibly make something from the remaining felted 10p jumper

That's lovely Tillyboo, are you a rummmager per chance?
I suspect if you let all of us A&C ladies loose in a charity shop, it would be mayhem.

Gingermonkey · 05/11/2007 20:10

whizzz - I completely forgot to say how awful it is about your bag What b@$t@rd$. There's no rush for the necklace, it is a christmas prezzie after all. I got lilac felt in the post today and so I can make a start on the dino after I have got this week out of the way.
TB - the eskimo is a real cutie, I can see why DD wants to get her paws on her! Hope you feel better soon too. Are we all a bit poorly?

jeangenie · 05/11/2007 20:32

RHW - yes - they are trebles. I am getting into such a knot with it! will see if I can figure out how I might join in a smaller square - thanks for the idea

TB - gorgeous eskimo, not surprised your DD wants to hold tight!

Tillyboo · 05/11/2007 21:17

Thank-you ladies ...

Ooh, yes, I am a rummager, I love to fish about in junk, charity and antique shops as well as car boots. You never know what you might find.

I love to find things and wonder at their history, who owned it, what they did in their lives etc..

I'm on the hunt for teacups and saucers next - I've got a big cabinet to fill.

jeangenie · 05/11/2007 23:31

ok, I've done it (after a fashion)
at least I can wipe it from the list now

jeangenie · 05/11/2007 23:34

oops, sorry - just posted a link to the wrong blog there (DH's dancing footballers extravaganza!)

this is the one I meant

(sorry if anyone got too much of a shock there)

GreebosWhiskersIsCherryRed73 · 06/11/2007 11:13

Finished my doll & added her to my blog along with all the accessories I've been working on & some pictures of dd3 & ds at halloween. Phew!

This week's challenge is a soft toy for ds's first birthday but I'd better get my finger out skates on as it's on Saturday. I also have a house to tidy as we're having a party for him so I have to move some of the clutter so we can fit everyone in

I'm also hoping to start a shop on Etsy soon if I can get enough things together & if I can decide on prices - thanks for the tips GM ;)

TB the eskimo is gorgeous

GreebosWhiskersIsCherryRed73 · 06/11/2007 11:43

Oooo - should have said - I added 3 posts today so to see the pics of the kids you'll have to scroll down little

lucykate · 06/11/2007 11:47

just found this link on another blog

isn't that shop fab, its near to where i live, was actually going to grantham after lunch for cord and bias binding to make the toy bag/play mat project, not sure if i'll have time to go today, may have to make a special trip without ds.

dizzyday07 · 06/11/2007 13:11

LK - that's a lovely website - but £50 for a cushion!!! I need to up my prices

Tillyboo · 06/11/2007 13:11

What a lovely, lovely shop ... and the twinkly music too, just gorgeous.

I loved the prince and the princess and the pea in the Kids section.

Thanks for the link, what a gem.

GW, I love that doll - she is so cute, and the corsages are fab. Very (again) of those of you that can crochet and knit!!! Showed my DD the now famous doctor who doll, she got very excited and is demanding I make one, ha ha ha - she'd be lucky to get 2 stitches!!! (poor child, she can't grasp mummy is not as amazing as she thinks she is - she'll learn soon!) I know DD will be wanting a hairband/headband....please figure out your prices and get selling them! (or, put more politely, please can I buy one for my little beast? - see, I smiled very nicely!)
LK, that site is fab, but why'd you show dizzy???? Now she'll be upping her prices (although they are far too low, but ssssh, don't tell her that!!! )
I went out for lunch today and have gone a bit giddy (no alcohol was involved, but some rather lovely lemon cake!)
Dizzy, what on earth is a haa-hoo????? Maybe I have a dirty mind, but it sounds like it could be quite rude.

Dingle · 06/11/2007 16:41

I am seriously thinking about what, if anything, to do with my crafting. Don't really have any outlets and I haven't really the confidence to do anything about it.

I registered for a Mumx Mall shop but haven't done anything with it, and it expired today!! Don't really know much about Etsy, or whether it is the right place for my cards....feel quite creatively suffocated!

Saying that my Xmas stock box is looking quite good, despite this rotten flu that won't budge I made another 6 cards today...and the night is still young!

WhizzzBangWhizzz · 06/11/2007 16:51

Dingle I am the same. I would love to spend more time making & selling stuff BUT I don't feel that I make enough (or have enough time spare) to warrant registering & paying taxes etc. If I made myself a business (all be it a part time one), would the fun go out of it if I am actively trying to make a profit out of it all??
There are loads of lovely beads, sterling silver & gemstones out there to buy but I am put off buying stuff & having a go in case I can't sell it & then I am left with a VAST wardrobe of beads for myself which is nice, if a bit excessive!

WhizzzBangWhizzz · 06/11/2007 16:52

oh & and because I'm not a registered business, I don't want to sell on Etsy etc or advertise anywhere in case I get jumped on by the taxman

Dingle · 06/11/2007 16:54

Perhaps this is worthy of a thread on it's one Whizzy!!! I am working now..but only 6 hours a week during term time so it fits in with school and hospital and therapy appointments with DD...but I feel I need more now..but like you say..it's a big step from hobby to a small business!

dizzyday07 · 06/11/2007 17:24

GM - These are the HaaHoos

I'm making the star shaped yellow spotty one

I'm using this fabric

but what do I use for the eyes? and how do I attach them? Glue? Stitching?

WhizzzBangWhizzz · 06/11/2007 17:31

Dingle - I have started another thread for views

rantinghousewife · 06/11/2007 19:33

JG, that looks great, going to have to rename you the crocheting guru now!
Dingle, I think I know exactly what you mean, although in my case, it is a confidence thing too, am so much of a perfectionist that if I was making something to sell to someone else, I don't think I'd ever sleep at night for worrying that it wasn't perfect enough.
Anyhow finished all my wip knitting projects today, bar the seaming, as I've been laid on my back with a pulled intercostal muscle on my back rib. I secretly enjoyed sitting on my harris knitting all day tho'.
