I don't know what's going on but this is the third post I've tried. If this fails I'm going to give up.

Anyway, I can't seem to find the old thread for some reason, my laptop is doing funny things so maybe it's at my end?

Anyway, I cannot see what you all have achieved so far this week but here is my blog with what I have done or you can have a peep in my profile but the pictures are quite diddy

OP posts:

it was an embroidered fabric and felt brooch, referred to as 'that fuzzy felt thing'. the comments were told to dh, who jumped straight to my defense. he didn't tell me about all this till a while after.

it was purely down to the fact that a handmade gift, of any kind, just wasn't appreciated, despite the time and effort that goes into it being a lot more than getting out a credit card and ordering something online.

still, i'm undaunted , how about this for a fab present idea, scroll down to the drawstring bag that opens out to a play mat. i'm going to make one for a friends little boy with pirate fabric and put some playmobil pirates inside. there are instructions on how to make it too.

Dingle · 04/11/2007 19:35

Lucykate!! Some people are never happy, I have people that just don't appreciate how much love, time and effort goes into my craft...but like a fool I still send them my handcrafted cards, almost to get a reaction! But on the other hand I absolutely adore making stuff for those that appreciate it. Hubby knows what I put into my crafting and is always over the moon with the mini albums and cards I have made for him and Easter eggbox(or was it the fact of the chocolate I had put inside!!!!) It must be a matter of good taste Lucykate!

Dior love your cards, especially that one made for commission! V. beautiful.
Lucykate, what a fantastic idea, they are great.

WhizzzBangWhizzz · 04/11/2007 20:20

Lucykate - that is such a good idea - I also like the crochet daisy necklace. I've never tired to crochet......

WhizzzBangWhizzz · 04/11/2007 20:21

Dingle - I love your cards too - they always look so crisp & professional

WhizzzBangWhizzz · 04/11/2007 20:22

Sorry - I meant to put Dior on that post - doh (not that your stuff isn't lovelytoo Dingle!)

WhizzzBangWhizzz · 04/11/2007 20:23

ARGhhhhh - having a bad day look

rantinghousewife · 04/11/2007 20:24

Whizz, crochet is easy, have a go! You can crochet with wire too, although I haven't tried!

rantinghousewife · 04/11/2007 20:25

Whizz , what a bunch of gits!!

thank you ladies for all your kind words

have been browsing the internet briefly and found this too

doesn't that look amazing, such a simple idea but works really well. i may have to go round the local charity shops tomorrow, i can feel the draw of a bargain

GreebosWhiskersIsCherryRed73 · 04/11/2007 23:07

GM - Amelie has arrived (on a Sunday too - I didn't think there were any RM deliveries on a Sunday) & she is just beautiful, even more gorgeous than in the pics! Even dh was impressed which is unlike him & I loved the little pressies she brought Mhara is going to adore her but there is one problem - I don't want to give her up [sob sob] Thank you so much

Whizzz - so sorry to hear about your bag - bunch of bast@rds

jeangenie · 05/11/2007 08:08

wow - what a lot of activity here - I too am feeling crap about how little I've achieved in comparison. I did cook for and host dinner party for 7 plus 6 kids on Saturday night and had resulting awful hangover so that explains why this weekend a craft washout. Had loads of lovely comments on my teacosy (which featured large in a discussion about hobbies - one of my guests claiming that women didn't really have proper hobbies like men do - his argument bit the dust when his wife produced said cosy as exhibit A at a crucial moment as I was lambasting him for his blinkered views - it was hilarious!)

anyway, is great to see what you have all been up to
LK - feel your pain on the lack of gratitude front, is so frustrating. Having seen what you make I am guessing the person in question is a simple fool!
I love that corsage you linked to. Funnily enough I saw something very similar in Glasgor Museum of Modern Art shop and had been planning to source some tweedy fabric. It is a friend's birthday on Wednesday and it would be just her style but I doubt I'll manage to source the material and make it by trhen (as I am working every day) - still, will add it to my challenge list
Whizz - sorry to hear about your bag, horrible luck - like the crafty addition to your blog though
I managed to kit about three stripes on my dollies new foot before I feel asleep last night so nothing worth blogging yet
this week will be better
challenges this week -
complete AnnieMcC's new feet and redo her mouth
sort out Eli's blanket (RHW - any tips on reverse crocheting in the middle of an afghan square?)
start on some xmas tree decorations
sort out fabric for some tweedy corsages
decide what colour yarn to make this FOR MYSELF!!!

Gingermonkey · 05/11/2007 09:56

LK - got to agree with everyone else, even if the person wasn't keen on the brooch - why make a nasty comment, knowing you had made it? Very unfair. But people can be so tactless sometimes
Of course, any spare prezzies that you have lying around are very welcome over here. I'd love a fuzzy felt thing And I am loving those 2 links. If someone made my DS a pirate bag filled with playmobil pirates I would probably weep happily to myself, lol!
Oh, I have the sick bug too - 2nd time in a month
GW - wow, sunday delivery, special treatment for you, I think!!! I'm really pleased you like her (and DH too!). Poor Mhara, maybe she'll be allowed to play with Amelie once a year on her birthday

I've been down to my mum's this weekend (taking the kitten). When I got home to my kitten and NooNoo the older cat it wasn't a happy home - NooNoo looks stressed and keeps attacking BooBoo the kitten (yes, silly names, I know!!!). I don't know what to do, NooNoo was such a happy cat and really gentle before

rantinghousewife · 05/11/2007 10:28

Love that coat Lk but, then I am a huge charity shop fan but, it's got to be a 'proper' charity shop! We have a fantastic one, it's the sort you can rummage in.
Gm, our merrylegs has not left dd's bed since she got it and has replaced bedtime bunny, so thank you, my mother was absolutely gobsmacked by the stitching. She couldn't believe how well finished it was (in a nice way, of course).
JG, do you mean reverse double crochet?

Gingermonkey · 05/11/2007 10:36

Thank you RH, I'm so pleased!

I went charity shop shopping the other day for some buttons, but all of the ones local to me are pants! We have a really good big one in Leeds (an Oxfam), but the pesky students get in there and seem to snap up all the bargains!

I still feel sicky so am sitting on the sofa today making a couple of bags for the lavender mice with a bit of stitchery on the front (nothing clever or complicated!) SIL just rang me to tell me she has the sicky bug too, I don't think she's overly impressed I went round for tea last night with my germs!

rantinghousewife · 05/11/2007 10:38

Oh Gm, hope you get better soon.

lucykate · 05/11/2007 12:10

oh gm , hope you feel better soon, i'm just getting over sicky bug too, missed the bonfire party at our next door neighbours house on saturday, and still feeling wiped out with no appetite yet (even for chocolate ). i wouldn't worry too much about the cats, they will be going through a stage of testing each others boundries and establishing a pecking order, i think its quite normal when going from a 1 cat house to a 2 cat house.

here's a funny cat story for you all, our neighbours have a new kitten, really cheeky chap, white and ginger. he likes investigating peoples cars. one of our other neighbours drove to work last week, parked up then heard a funny noise in the back. turned round, and there's the kitten sat on the back seat . we're all checking our cars before we go anywhere now just incase

whizzz, i love crochet, haven't done it for years, but prefer it to knitting, i dare you to have a go at crocheting with wire or some metallic thread and adding beads to it

Gingermonkey · 05/11/2007 13:16

LK, that is so funny - cats are definitely superior to dogs (sorry dog people!!!) BooBoo is snoring under the table at the minute, and poor NooNoo is wandering around the house looking very sorry for himself It's a shame the naughty step doesn't work for cats, NooNoo would be sat on there all day at the minute. DH sat him down and tried talking to him yesterday, but he wasn't having any of it (DH thinks a stern word will sort him out, but I know better!). I'm hoping he will come round eventually, I'm sure he will. BooBoo is going to be a huge cat, he already has massive paws (apparently that's an indicator of size), so if not he'll get his comeuppance in a few months!!!!
Hope you are feeling better too LK, I am nibbling on bread today, my appetite is non-existant too! Blooming kids and the germs they bring home from school, I suppose that's one of the joys of motherhood!

I've been christmas shopping on etsy though, so that's always a treat. I now have 6 people sorted, hooray!!!!

Dingle · 05/11/2007 14:06

Lots of acvtivity going on then!! Didn't mange any crafting at all yesterday and I've just got back from work today..still full of flu but thank goodness, no sicky bugs here YET!

Got an hour to myself before the school run, hopefully I will be inspired!

jeangenie · 05/11/2007 14:14

I love snoring cats - our aged beast lives under a bench in the kitchen and I just adore watching peoples faces as they are sat there trying to work out what the infernal and extremely loud droning noise is...
RHW - I am not sure what I mean. A baby afghan see piccie on 28 Oct entry I crocheted has ripped in one square in the middle and I need to fix it but it seems I would have to crochet backwards or something to do so (am I making ANY sense?)

as you are resident crocheting guru I thought you might know how to do it

WhizzzBangWhizzz · 05/11/2007 14:41

Thanks for the sympathy re: my bag folks. All locks changed now, so I feel a bit safer.

Right - crafty things:
I will have a go at crochet but need a hook, so can't do it immediately
I have some lovely ocean jasper beads that I want to play with
I need to make a charm bracelet for a MNer but I'm just waiting for some crystals to arrive
I will approach DSs school re a stall at the Xmas Fair in Dec

That should keep me busy

GingerMonkey - sorry I've not been able to get to the Post Office yet, so the necklace is still here - will try & get DH to take it tomorrow

rantinghousewife · 05/11/2007 19:41

Jg, expert, not sure about that but, thank you. I'm not sure you would need to reverse the stitches, looking at it (and btw I really do love granny square blankets, granny square anything actually, it's lovely), although I can see what you mean by that. Reverse crochet can be done but anything above a dc gets a bit complicated. I would imagine it would be far easier to start another square and then join it in nearer the edge, use some of the unravelled yarn to help you join it in.
I have done reverse dc a few times but that looks like it might be trebles, I'll have a fiddle about with a bit of yarn and see if I can pull it off. Let you know how I get on.
