AIBU Books Game Part Six

MoominMymbleandMy · 26/01/2010 19:16

Now, we're on thread number six!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to think I'm seeing a ghost?

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 03/02/2010 21:46

Hmm... am totally on everyone's!

...I suppose I always knew it was a marriage of convenience, after all - I mean, he needed the money...

MoominMymbleandMy · 03/02/2010 23:47

...I am most certainly not a body snatcher but I have dissected a few corpses in my time. My landlady was a bit tetchy about the body of the orphan pauper, but the live badgers I rescued from a baiting annoyed her more...

I am very stumped on everyone's , but I think I know which book you mean, Polly. I put it in the recycling box as not fit to be read by anyone!

MCP!

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 04/02/2010 07:55

It must've been bad,Moomin! The only books I've ever been able to bring myself to recycle rather than donate had fallen apart to separate pages!

...clothes? But of course I had clothes on! I was in their house. But I'd just had a fight with my fiance - he was so unkind...

MCP,all!

steamedtreaclesponge · 04/02/2010 09:32

Ooh, what was the book you recycled, Moomin? It must have been BAD

I feel like I should know what some of these are but I just don't... MCP!

...and he'll never find me in Bath - I know how much he hates it there!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 04/02/2010 09:47

Oh god Bath eh? Well that sounds distinctly Austeny but my brain has frozen up on the matter. Actually I don't think wives run off in Austen do they?

...And just because I've seen a beautiful woman, that doesn't mean anything either, it's not as if I've touched her. In fact I can't touch her as it turns out...

CJCregg · 04/02/2010 11:42

Treacle, did you have an argument about him and his opera singer? And have you been gambling a little bit too much? If so, you are one of my favourite characters ever.

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 04/02/2010 11:50

I can't guess anything [wails]

But, AIBU to wish my father would just give me more money? I have a household to run!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 04/02/2010 12:39

Does he need the money for something else Tortoise?

(I spend nearly all my time on here totally puzzled, you are not alone )

pollywollydoodle · 04/02/2010 13:10

moomin...if you were thinking of the resurrectionist, even i discarded it as unfit to read!

are you of the nobility tortoise?

no other ideas, floating around aimlessly like a cork on the seas.....

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 04/02/2010 13:13

...My wife's threatening to come and see me now, and bring her kids. Surely IANBU to want them to just stay out of the way, after all this is important scientific research...

Pogleswood · 04/02/2010 13:35

Oh dear, thought I'd come here for a little light relief, but no ideas on any of this!!

More clues,more clues....

...it was seeing them so happy, when I was so unhappy.. I thought he loved me you see,and I was going to help him with Uncle's money.but I don't think he cared for me at all...

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/02/2010 14:01

Ooh! Just logged on, feeling completely baffled and in the throng of perplexing AIBUs I think I might have recognised one!

Pogle, do you keep hens and have a secret intended somewhat younger than you? If so, it is amazing the uses to which you can put a potted plant.

And yes, Polly, it was The Resurrectionist that went in the recycling. Vile book.

Er, MCP, everyone else!

...Then I offered to take her away from India because she said she was sick of her rich protector's jealous rages. I even fought a duel with him...

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 04/02/2010 14:13

...and I'm sure Magnus wouldn't have me taking anything illegal. Although I must admit the effects are getting stronger and stronger...

VERY intrigued about potted plant, Moomin!

Pogleswood · 04/02/2010 14:41

Bingo,Moomin or,in the case of the cactus, "thud"!

MCP!

CJCregg · 04/02/2010 14:45

Hmmm ... explanation of cactus book, please - am intrigued.

AIBU to miss my husband?

Pogleswood · 04/02/2010 15:01

Busman's Honeymoon,Dorothy L Sayers, from the viewpoint of Miss Twitterton(whose Uncle has been dispatched by being hit on the head by a swinging cactus pot....)
My perfect married couple, sigh - if only DH and I were Peter and Harriet.....

YABU,that sounds only right and proper - though presumably you think you might be BU?(I suppose if he's just popped out to post a letter you might be being a little feeble...!)

CJCregg · 04/02/2010 16:44

Thanks for that! Must revisit DLS (adds to burgeoning list, feeling slightly panicky).

No, he's been gone a while now. At first I thought it was rather nice, as it gave me more space in the bed. But I'm getting a bit worried now ...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 04/02/2010 17:01

Has he gone off in pursuit of something? A good night's sleeep, say?

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/02/2010 20:41

Evening, all! Back to stumped mode here with no ideas on anything except I like the name Magnus. But spoilsport DH put his foot down over DS so I'll have to save it for a future cat.

CJ, what happened to your going for a walk AIBU? Is this the same one? Not that I have any ideas either way!

Poor Peter and Harriet. Imagine discovering a decaying corpse in the cottage where you're spending your honeymoon. Not that it seems to put them off.

...And then I arranged a passage back to England for her. But she broke my heart all over again by running off to America with another rich protector...

MCP!

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 04/02/2010 21:05

No idea on your Moomin, but she does sound like a bit of a minx.

...Perhaps I was wrong about Magnus, the drug seems to be drawing me more and more back into the past. I can barely bring myself to talk to my present day family and Vita is very annoyed...

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/02/2010 21:34

Ohh! Elephants, I'd forgotten all about that one! Now, I would have thought Magnus' awful fate sufficient warning to stop poking around the past immediately, but there's no telling some people.

...I didn't think I'd ever see her again but then our ship was captured by the Americans...

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 04/02/2010 21:49

Hoooraaaah for Moomin! Yes it's a pity about poor Magnus but life in the 15th(?) century's just so much more gripping somehow.

I try to spot that tunnel every time I go down to Cornwall - it really exists apparently.

Your sounds distinctly swashbuckling Moomin - in fact I just googled the most random selection of words and - Surprise! - I think I may have found the very, er, maiden.

CJCregg · 04/02/2010 21:49

I have absolutely no idea what you are all on about.

Moomin, I abandoned the walk one as being too boring! Might resurrect later if I get desperate, but I think I was in a funny mood that day ...

I'm just a bit concerned, because he's getting on a bit now (aren't we all?) and he's been bedridden for a while. He really shouldn't be out, but it was such a great opportunity ...

pollywollydoodle · 04/02/2010 22:12

moomin, is she moll?

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 04/02/2010 22:20

Elephants, my father doesn't need the money for anything else, he's got piles of it, he's just being TU. Seems to regard my literary career as mere fancy.

Oh, and we're not nobility; in fact my father would do well to learn the lessons of refinement so as not to embarrass himself in good company. I'm sure my wife finds him quite distasteful.

CJ, did he tell you where he was going?
