AIBU Books Game Part Six

MoominMymbleandMy · 26/01/2010 19:16

Now, we're on thread number six!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to think I'm seeing a ghost?

Afternoon all!

Never mind, she'll be packing her bags and moving out to the post office pretty soon, llandb. And I am also intrigued by the bendy straws and the Pogle doppelganger!

I can't reveal the identity of the other sisters because, as you've guessed, they'll star in their own AIBU sooner or later.

I'm wondering if I was right about The Little Stranger too, Polly, and also if your wondering is on the same lines as mine!

...Oh, the umbrellas weren't broken. Otherwise he wouldn't have paid me for them! But I'm sure it won't rain for ages so no one will miss them...

Aagh - stupid thread disappeared from my Threads I'm On and now I'm all behind!

Not that it makes any difference, I still have no clues

The Little Stranger is terrifying, isn't it - I couldn't read it on my own, had to save it for when I was on the bus or around other people!

MCP everyone

...Never mind, I know that my father will come for me one day. And now some more people have arrived on the island, I've got lots to keep me occupied! Better go and deliver this baby, I suppose...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 02/02/2010 16:01

Me too, treacle, i couldn't find it anywhere!

Do you have sticky-outy plaits?

...I'm sure Amy (that's my mum) can read, but it's like she's pretending she can't. And what with just minding this caravan site it's not like she needs books.

llandb · 02/02/2010 16:11

Imposter Pogle (well, other Pogle - I'm sure that nicking Pogle's name was an accident on her part, as she seems awfully nice and wrote me a nice reply ) is to be found on a non-MN group which has such low traffic that the messages get delivered straight to my inbox!

Which means they get responded to on the rare occasions that I have anything to say, in a similar vein to this

In subsequent RL convo on same topic, RL med doc friend said 'what no electric bed?'

...Yes, such a relief that she's gone, and Uncle Rondo won't try to wear my kimono for another year so I needn't worry on that score!

Now I'm puzzled as a puzzled thing and sure I should know Elephant's and Treacle's, but don't. And Moomin you're not back in Ankh-Morpork!?

MCP!

Pogleswood · 02/02/2010 16:14

Treacle, have you changed your name at all?

MCP,Moomin!

Pogleswood · 02/02/2010 16:18

well, llandb at least I know now why they ask you if you are wearing nail varnish pre-op,which I'd always wondered about, but not enough to actually ask!

Oh,and because it's there...,everyone!

llandb · 02/02/2010 16:46

Ooh new smiley! Will save for MCP plea.

Pogle, until then, I had believed (because a nurse had told me once) that it was in case some of the varnish flaked off and ended up being stitched up inside you Anyway glad you're doing OK and hope you're awake enough to get some reading in!

llandb · 02/02/2010 16:50

While you lot are being cryptic -

AIBU to frighten someone?

steamedtreaclesponge · 02/02/2010 17:00

Ah - I'd often wondered about that nail varnish thing too. The only time I ever had a general I was about 15 and had just painted them - was most cross about having to take all the varnish off again!

Elephants, I can't remember about the plaits - I think ringlets are more likely. And yes, Pogle, I have changed my name! You would too with a name like mine...

Llandb, are you pretending to be a ghost?

Moomin, no idea about the umbrellas, MCP!

Pogleswood · 02/02/2010 17:01

And that would be a problem why? (that's to the nail varnish bit...) It's funny what you can end up believing, isn't it!

And re:your AIBU,it all depends - are they a nice person you are frightening out of malice? Are they 'orrible, and getting their just deserts?

llandb · 02/02/2010 17:41

Moomin, these umbrellas don't require painting (or nail-varnishing ), do they?

Not a ghost... and I suppose I'm just intrinsically frightening to certain fellow-visitors....

MCP!

MoominMymbleandMy · 02/02/2010 19:00

Evening, all!

Treacle, Elephants, if you click on 'watch this thread' it will stay for ever and ever in 'threads I'm watching', as far as I know - I've still got the other five AIBU Books threads anyway!

Are you a "trouser-man girl", Treacle?

llandb, they insisted I clean off my nail varnish before DD was born. So I thought I'd varnish them again when I got home...which shows you how much I knew about the care of newborn babies in those days!

...Everyone was going on at me because I didn't see why I should contribute any of my pocket money. So I sold the umbrellas to a rag and bone man. I got a shilling and a penny for all four of them...

Wow thanks Moomin! I had NO idea about that button but it will certainly help.

Pogleswood · 02/02/2010 20:06

But Ermintrude is such a sweet name,Treacle! (I hope that was your name!)

MCP!

pollywollydoodle · 02/02/2010 21:29

moomin (and treacle) i've put something on this thread so as not to put a spoiler on this one

pollywollydoodle · 02/02/2010 21:32

btw mcp

CJCregg · 02/02/2010 22:55

I am so completely stuck! And can't keep up, either. Moomin, I know yours but there's no way I can recall it. What was the lop-sided sister one?

Liking this - sums me up nicely.

MoominMymbleandMy · 02/02/2010 23:43

Good thinking, Polly! And it was fascinating to see other people's takes on The Little Stranger. I must say I was much more impressed by MN snagging Sarah Waters for a chat than all the politicos!

Hmm, it sounds very U, llandb, but no doubt you have your reasons. Elephants, your one isn't ringing any bells at all!

I bet you do know mine, CJ!

...If only it hadn't rained that evening. Or if only our father had been home in time to collect our sister in the car. I shan't let them see but I do think it's mean to say that all I'll be getting for my next two birthdays and Christmases will be new umbrellas...

OP posts:
CJCregg · 02/02/2010 23:48

Grrrrr ... I know it, I know I do ... So what happened to your sister? MCPPPPPPPPPP!

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 02/02/2010 23:51

Oh, hooray, Little Stranger conversation.

I'm confuddled by all of these, but I want to join in. Lurky lurky lurk.

MoominMymbleandMy · 03/02/2010 00:06

Hello Tortoise, we are frequently confuddled on these threads but someone generally manages to work out the answers in the end so do join in!

... She got a bit wet, on account of our father not being home in time to give her a lift and Pinny not having an umbrella (because I'd sold them) when she went to collect her from the party instead...

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 03/02/2010 00:11

....Never mind, mum has pulled out of school now anyway, we're off to see Vesuvius. Maybe that'll help her remember how to read.

(Last chance saloon here as I'm beginning to think i'm the only person who's read this one )

what was the ermintrude one?

are you a scary animal, llandb?

CJCregg · 03/02/2010 00:14

Thank you, Moomin. I presume she was on her way home from a tennis match?

I can go to bed happy. Night all.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 03/02/2010 00:16

A crafty google ( i had to, I didn't know there was another governess called Pinny other than the secret countess's) makes me wonder if you might be wearing some practical white footwear, Moomin?
