AIBU Books Game Part Six

MoominMymbleandMy · 26/01/2010 19:16

Now, we're on thread number six!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to think I'm seeing a ghost?

OP posts:
pollywollydoodle · 28/01/2010 11:21

is he a tiger, treacle?

MoominMymbleandMy · 28/01/2010 11:54

No ideas on Elephants and I can only think of tigers for Polly's. MCP!

...Only, of course, it wasn't this land we were promised. We always used to say: "Next year in Jerusalem"...

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 28/01/2010 13:18

Sounds like YANBU Treacle, as long as you don't have an ulterior motive?

...Well I felt guilty about the animals and got rid of them. Now I've got this fantastic book out to amuse me instead. If only my mum could read it with me, but she just won't even try to work out the words.

MoominMymbleandMy · 28/01/2010 14:22

..."Next year in Sitka," wouldn't have had the same ring...

Oops, sorry, I meant Treacle's AIBU, not Polly's. No wiser on any of them though. MCP!

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 28/01/2010 14:35

No ideas about either of yours, Moomin and Elephants - would say MCP but I'm certain I don't know either of them!

...No, he's not a tiger, although I suppose he is a bit wild. I don't know what grandmother would say...

Skimty · 28/01/2010 18:19

Can I hijack in for one second...

(Treacle, AIBU to think that sow's milk isn't recommended by the WHO? I hope that evens us up!)

CJCregg · 28/01/2010 20:28

Eh?

MoominMymbleandMy · 28/01/2010 21:43

What have you been up to, Treacle?!

Oh, and did you find your guest in an abandoned quarry?

Elephants, I can't even begin to think of a candidate for your one!

...I suppose that's why they call us 'The Frozen Chosen'...

MCP all!

OP posts:
pollywollydoodle · 28/01/2010 22:18

moomin, are you or your future boyfriend planning on counting eleseals in the antarctic?

MoominMymbleandMy · 28/01/2010 23:32

...No, I'm looking for a murderer in Alaska on the orders of my ex-wife (who is also my boss)...

Night all!

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 29/01/2010 09:14

Aha - I wondered if that would draw you in, Skimty!

And I'm sure sow's milk is very nutritious!

...Not in a quarry, on a beach. It's nice to see another human, I'm getting a bit tired of having nothing but a corpse and a parrot to talk to...

MCP!

llandb · 31/01/2010 22:19

Hello to Sunny and hello Skimty and

I don't think actual spreadsheets are required to keep tabs on us - notebooks and a good memory amount to the same thing, don't they?

llandb · 01/02/2010 13:23

MCP!

Meanwhile - AIBU to be annoyed that my sister has turned up?

llandb · 01/02/2010 13:27

Ooh ooh can I please retract and do it from POV of said sister

AIBU to be annoyed that my sister isn't pleased to see me?

Pogleswood · 01/02/2010 17:27

Hello, everyone and yay,AIBU Books 6! Who'd have thought it! And how nice to come back and to find things just as I left them - completely baffling
Gah,CJ - Peter's Room! You got us good there!

llandb,I think YA both BU,and Treacle, I wouldn't bother talking to a corpse!

MCP!

llandb · 01/02/2010 17:44

Pogle! How are you and how was hospital food? (Apologies if this is not appropriate conversation in Britain )

Moomin, Google-cheatin' isn't helping me much, unless (hopeful) there is an Antarctic connection there as well?

Treacle, erm, so, MCP!

...Well she's always been terribly jealous of me just because I'm exactly one year younger than her, to the exact day - makes out that I'm spoilt...

Pogleswood · 01/02/2010 18:25

Fine, thanks! (still a bit tired though) Hospital food fine actually, but hospital itself boring in the extreme!

Moomin,I've googled and I think you are a member of the yiddish policeman's union - this sounds really interesting,so much so that I've nipped online and ordered it from the library! (So please don't tell me if it's bad...)

llandb · 01/02/2010 22:09

Now, Pogle.
In the extremely unlikely event that you are the very same other Pogle I've had a recent exchange with on another forum (after all, lots of people have nicked my drinks theme so why shouldn't there be other Pogles?),
And if a natter about bendy straws means anything to you,
Then I leave it as an exercise to the reader to figure out which character from a book my name-acronym over there stands for

Anyway....

...Well just because I'd turned up without warning, at dinner time, with an unannounced child into the bargain, she's making out as though I'm an imposition!...

MCP?

MoominMymbleandMy · 02/02/2010 01:26

Greetings, all! Too late even for me to say: "Good evening".

And, hooray, lovely to see you back, Pogle (there is, of course, only one Pogle - any others must be imposters)! I hope you're recovering swiftly and yes, indeed, you are bang on the nose with The Yiddish Policeman's Union, and I enjoyed it very much.

Treacle, I have no idea on your corpse and parrot but you might like to know that I lay awake with the heebie-jeebies for ages after finishing The Little Stranger the other night.

llandb, I had a lovely candidate lined up for your one only to log on and find you'd blown her out of the water. MCP!

AIBU to sell all the umbrellas?

OP posts:
llandb · 02/02/2010 09:44

Depends, Moomin- are you getting rid of 'em because they've broken? (RL grrr because the moderately pricey one I bought my DP won't stay up any more, blimmin' plastic catches that wear out!)

...Sis has an awful pile of chips on her shoulder regarding me. She makes out that I'm a liar who turns people against her. Why, she says my husband (who was her boyfriend first) turned against her because I told him that she was uneven!...

MCP!

llandb · 02/02/2010 09:45

(...or maybe it was 'lopsided'...)

llandb · 02/02/2010 09:54

(Curious to know what your guess was, Moomin - unless you're saving it for later )

Pogleswood · 02/02/2010 11:25

llandb! No,I'm a shy and retiring creature and only leave Pogleswood for mumsnet! Am now agog with curiosity over your bendy straws and alterego...

MCP! (lopsided??)

pollywollydoodle · 02/02/2010 11:48

hello pogle, good to see you again!
am also v curious about llandb's other life!

moomin, have also just finished the little stranger...took me a while to get into it but it has really stayed with me...will have to read the webchat with sw and see if i am barking up the wrong tree!

anyway, have no real ideas on any but moomin are you emigrating to a drier climate?

llandb · 02/02/2010 12:32

Ah, Sis says I told Mr Whitaker that she was one-sided. Bigger on one side than the other. Anyway, it's not my fault if he prefers me.

Now she's saying unkind things about my adopted child looking mightily like Mr Whitaker and my just being too proud to admit it and wondering whether he got sick of me. I think I'll have to let Mama and Papa-Daddy know a few things that Sis has said about them....
