AIBU Books Game Part Six

MoominMymbleandMy · 26/01/2010 19:16

Now, we're on thread number six!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to think I'm seeing a ghost?

OP posts:
MoominMymbleandMy · 04/02/2010 22:43

As in HMS Surprise. Well done, Elephants!

I shall look out for the tunnel too now. In fact, I think I need to re-read the book. Only I can't find it. Grr!

OK, I am well and truly stuck on CJ's, Tortoise's and Treacle's so MCP.

AIBU to want a divorce?

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 05/02/2010 10:28

Oh good! I couldn't remember his surname but it's amazing what a google for "Patrick Thingamy ships duels india" can do

Tunnel is just around Par I think. Mine was "The House on the Strand" by Daphne du Maurier for anyone still head-scratching.

Tortoise - yours sound vaguely familiar but nothing def so More Clues Please!

Have you thought it over Moomin? Do you have a very uptight husband with a rather dishy cousin for example?

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 05/02/2010 11:03

...mind you, who knows what my wife thinks these days. She's becoming impossibly unpredictable.

Moomin, what has your spouse done to deserve it?

Pogleswood · 05/02/2010 11:12

Yeh,whatever else it does, this thread hones your googling skills!(personally I'm also hoping it will stave off senility...)

Cj,has your DH gone off with your grandson by any chance?

MCP Moomin,Tortoise,Treacle - I seem to have Treacles and Tortoises clues inextricably mixed in my mind, which is not helping at all.Maybe I need a spreadsheet...

CJCregg · 05/02/2010 11:50

Why, Pogle, you're quite right - he has gone off for the day with our grandson Charlie! I hope everything's all right, they really ought to be back by now ...

I definitely need a spreadsheet. Can't keep up at all. I scroll up and down trying to keep tabs on the one I think I vaguely know, only to be suddenly distracted by something like a cactus or Moll Flanders and I lose all the plots at the same time!

Think tortoise's is sounding a bit familiar, but otherwise need a lot MCP.

Moomin, do you want a divorce because your wife/husband has cheated on you?

AIBU to want to keep my baby?

Pogleswood · 05/02/2010 11:59

Yay! Result!(I am now back to wondering about your walk,by the way...)

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 05/02/2010 12:04

Are you hoping the baby's dad will marry you, CJ?

Know what you mean about trying to keep them all in my head. Thought you all had some kind of magic book-clue-filing device!

steamedtreaclesponge · 05/02/2010 12:51

I am totally and lost - I guessed CJ's but Pogle was too quick for me!

...He must understand why I left - after all, I did ruin his life. And he wanted me to live with his mother, and she hates me! I know I kept doing things wrong, but what did he expect, marrying me straight out of the schoolroom?

CJCregg · 05/02/2010 13:30

Treacle, see my post yesterday! Were you helped by Gil, Ferdy and the Byronic George Wrotham?

steamedtreaclesponge · 05/02/2010 15:34

Ah yes! Sorry, CJ, I did see that but was a little confused by the opera singer (she was an opera-dancer, dontcha know )

It's one of my favourites too, have read it rather too many times

YANBU on the face of it - who wants to take your baby?

CJCregg · 05/02/2010 17:07

Oops - you're quite right, she was an opera dancer.

One of my favourite books of all time.

No one wants to take my baby, it's just a question of whether I have it - I'm not married, and people might talk. But it seems like a gift from God ...

MoominMymbleandMy · 05/02/2010 17:33

Goodness, CJ, you're beginning to sound a bit like the New Testament!

Still stumped, alas. MCP!

...Or an annulment will do. It wasn't consummated...

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 05/02/2010 17:37

Hmm, that depends - why do you want a divorce, Moomin? Are you under pressure from your mother?

CJ, do you rent out rooms?

Pogleswood · 05/02/2010 17:42

Presumably if CJ was New Testamentish she would be sure the baby was a gift from God [Smile]

Is your spouse significantly older than you,Moomin?

MCP,all!

MoominMymbleandMy · 05/02/2010 18:49

True, Pogle, but I can't see past the Nativity now!

...My parents have no idea that I'm married. I was hoping to marry someone else and I'm still planning to once I've got a divorce or an annulment...

MCP all!

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 05/02/2010 20:08

MCP!
And I can't see past the fact that you sound just like someone I'm sure you're not,(I think I did an AIBU from the series and no-one had read them!)

MoominMymbleandMy · 05/02/2010 21:45

...Not that I don't like my DH. He probably saved my life by marrying me...

Still stable fixated here.

MC pretty P!

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 05/02/2010 22:32

Well,I have to ask and then I can move on - have you had an interesting life recently, with lots of foreign travel?

MoominMymbleandMy · 05/02/2010 23:45

...You could certainly say it's been 'interesting' recently. And I've just been on the Orient Express...

Still MCP!

OP posts:
tortoiseonthehalfshell · 06/02/2010 07:40

...it was bad enough, having to let most of the servants go, but now lack of money is standing in between me and a chance at true happiness...

CJ, do you actually have a choice? Could you prevent the pregnancy if you wanted?

Pogleswood · 06/02/2010 10:16

Hmmm.Moomin,is your husband an academic?

Tortoise,so what is your chance of true happiness? Obviously it's not marrying the girl you love! Job? Travel?

MCP!

MoominMymbleandMy · 06/02/2010 13:31

Why yes he is, Pogle! He's a very eminent palaeontologist.

MCP, Tortoise and CJ!

OP posts:
llandb · 06/02/2010 14:48
pollywollydoodle · 06/02/2010 20:48

polly pulls llandb into her drifting dinghy and shares her last bit of dairy milk...

must read more books...

Pogleswood · 07/02/2010 10:49

So,Moomin I think he's saved your life by helping you leave Nazi occupied Vienna? I think you may change your mind about the divorce, with time...
