AIBU Books Game Part 5

1000 replies

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/10/2009 20:46

Now we've made it to a fifth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to set all my sights on getting a rich husband?

Elephants! Is your brother eating the actual country, or its symbol?

(This thread is moving too fast for me, too; cue corny joke about Elephants and their memories being advantaged when it comes to pages of new clues )

Pogle! I hope your RL op is non-nasty and intended to improve life (and that you don't get too irritatingly chipper a surgeon ) And I hope that life is sufficiently fair to allow you to read lots and lots of extra books afterwards

... Serial killer? Me? Too dangerous by half! Though my colleagues might find that more plausible than folk-dancing...

MCP and 'Night!

steamedtreaclesponge · 22/01/2010 10:10

Do you have lots of children, Moomin?

MCP everyone!

...I think she hates me. But it's not my fault that her boyfriend fell in love with me instead...

Pogleswood · 22/01/2010 11:02

Now I was thinking Inspector Morseish thoughts about yours, llandb - but now I'm wondering whether you feel it is important to preserve old folkways? In which case I think your colleagues may be a bit um,surprised by your hobby, but I don't think you need to worry about losing their respect - after all you've been working with them for a long time now and they know you..er..possess many.. um.. fine qualities... And I'm sorry your meeting place burned down!

Thanks for the RL good wishes!

Baffled by Elephants',baffled by Moomin's,and CJ,why are you clinging to driftwood?! Surely things can't be that bad!

Oh,baffled by Treacle's too...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 22/01/2010 11:59

...at least he's just eating though, the other three are up to all kinds of things. Surely IANBU to want to just stay quietly at home?

MoominMymbleandMy · 22/01/2010 13:12

Afternoon all!

...We have five DCs and while my nerves present no difficulties I regret to say that those of my spouse do...

I may be joining you on your piece of driftwood, CJ, because I'm utterly baffled. MCP!

OP posts:
CJCregg · 22/01/2010 13:16

You'd better retire to your library, Moomin.

AIBU to want some butter?

Pogleswood · 22/01/2010 13:24

How hard do you think it will be to obtain,CJ?

AIBU to expect one of these stalls to sell what I'm looking for?

MoominMymbleandMy · 22/01/2010 13:37

Are they trying to fob you off with marmalade, CJ? It's really no way to treat royalty even if they're not fussy.

I think you're right. I shall retreat to my library and contemplate the folly of marrying a woman for her good looks and high spirits when neither were likely to last.

Depends what you're looking for, I'd say, Pogle. MCP!

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 22/01/2010 13:52

Ah, Moomin, at least you can console yourself with the thought that you have one sensible daughter!

CJ, are you only allowed jam or butter?

Elephants and Pogle, MCP!

...and I'm sure it had nothing to do with my fortune! We just want to honeymoon in peace - is that too much to ask for?

Pogleswood · 22/01/2010 14:05

Hmm.
...Well,I was rather fancying a pet...

Treacle, are you honeymooning in Egypt, with a trip along the Nile? If so I don't quite know how to tell you this but your chances of a long and happy marriage are not good...

CJCregg · 22/01/2010 14:06

Treacle, are you heading for a cruise on the Nile?

Pogle, is it a fluffy little bunny rabbit you're after?

I'm not the King (relief for Queen, Dairymaid et al) but I would like some butter - with my baked potato

CJCregg · 22/01/2010 14:07

Damn, Pogle, cross posts!

And I thought I'd been so clever ... for once.

Pogleswood · 22/01/2010 14:12

We've both been clever,CJ!

Yes,just a little wabbit to play with, and so far I've been offered lavender, mackerel, and saucepans. Not much good if you want a rabbit!

MCP on your baked potato...

CJCregg · 22/01/2010 14:28

Better head out to the common, then, Pogle!

Problem is, getting butter is going to involved a bit of a trek ...

CJCregg · 22/01/2010 14:28

involve, even

steamedtreaclesponge · 22/01/2010 15:17

Ah, Pogle, do you not think so? What could possibly go wrong?

What was yours?

CJ, no idea on yours, MCP!

AIBU to feel a bit left out?

Pogleswood · 22/01/2010 16:16

No comment,Treacle! I'm sorry you are feeling left out - more clues?

Mine was the poem Market Square,AA Milne (my friend's sister used to recite this with great pathos and lots of lisping!)

So,CJ,you are in the middle of nowhere, and you've suddenly been seized with a craving for butter on your potato?

MCP!

MoominMymbleandMy · 22/01/2010 19:50

Bah, and I thought I'd been so clever! Are you camping then, CJ?

NIMCP on everyone's, I'm afraid.

AIBU to resort to blackmail and bribery?

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 23/01/2010 08:21

Morning all!

CJ,yours has obviously been turning over in my brain overnight, and I've woken up wondering if you actually have your potato?

< been on this thread too long!>

Off out now - back later!

llandb · 24/01/2010 00:28

S'pose you're right, Pogle - there is something fishy(-smelling) about me, and even the Patricia can't persuade them of my species (and sorry for returning to Ankh-Morpork but it's been on my next-to-do for ever so long )

  • MCP!
llandb · 24/01/2010 00:32

Not into this spelling-correction lark 'cos I'd always be doing it

but just this once I'll bend the rules, on accounta I don't think Vetinari would like to be called 'Patricia' and I don't want to be suspended upside-down and instructed to learn the words

MoominMymbleandMy · 24/01/2010 02:08

Ohhh, llandb, you're Nobby! Sorry to be so slow on the uptake but I always have trouble thinking of him as an agent of justice. Fugitive from justice seems so much more in keeping with his character.

MCP on everyone else's!

...I don't think it's U. We need that money and she'll get her interview...

Night all!

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 24/01/2010 09:53

Morning! Though I don't have anything to say except more clues please...
I don't want to cling to driftwood,I'll get all wrinkly...can I drift in an open boat??

llandb · 24/01/2010 18:47

Moomin, is she to be interviewer or interviewee?
