AIBU Books Game Part 5

1000 replies

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/10/2009 20:46

Now we've made it to a fifth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to set all my sights on getting a rich husband?

steamedtreaclesponge · 19/01/2010 08:47

Spot on, Pogle!

I am indeed in the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which you should all read because it's amazing. Although my clues have given the game away rather... Have just read the second in the series and am dying to read the last one, but the library is being very slow in sending it to me!

Gosh, a whole new crop of AIBUs - MCP!

...now, her sister is a different story - I have high hopes for her...

pollywollydoodle · 19/01/2010 10:37

morning!
must read some AF (auntie flo or antonia fraser?... never see them in the same room do you)

Treacle are you chinese and hoping she will get to be the emperor's concubine?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 19/01/2010 11:43

Hello, Moomin, by the way! (sorry i am a bit slow )

Yes indeed I have an unstable stack right next to me now, you're right it's lovely to think of us all tucked up in our book-filled houses.

...Well my BF told me I was having a laugh if I thought she was leading him on, but now I hear he's asked her dad for her hand in marriage - talk about frenemies!

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/01/2010 14:05

Afternoon all!

Is there a well involved in your one, Treacle?

No idea on anyone else's, I'm afraid, but llandb, please desist from dislocating your poor shoulder, and Pogle, you forgot the nervous throat clearing!

MCP!

...I'd like to post in the Classifieds but it would be traceable. That's why I'm writing postcards and leaving them where people will find them...

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 19/01/2010 14:23

Hmm... MCP everyone!

...I'd like them both to get married, but they are getting a bit old now...

Pogleswood · 19/01/2010 14:46

hrmpm,hack,hack,gasp...

Now,I thought I was on the right track with yours till that last clue,Moomin! Would it be dangerous for you to be traced,or embarrassing,or do you have another reason for wanting to remain anonymous?

llandb, not unreasonable at all,we wouldn't want you to be mortified...so,what is it then? exotic sex life? strange family? spend all your spare time making Star Wars figures out of match sticks?

...something has obviously gone wrong - we should've heard from them,though...

MCP,everyone!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 19/01/2010 14:50

I hope you're not planning to palm them off on the same guy, treacle?

...Right well it seems my friend was telling the truth after all, her dad got in a right strop when she refused to marry Mr Gorgeous and threatened to have her locked up! Now she's planning to escape and I just know Hot Stuff is going to be running right after her - surely I WNBU to tag along?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 19/01/2010 14:52

They didn't sail off in something less than seaworthy did they, Pogle? I do hope not

Pogleswood · 19/01/2010 15:37

well she is/was seaworthy - but a real fair weather boat. They should've been fine,it's not as if they were going round the world...

CJCregg · 19/01/2010 16:13

Did they mean to go to sea, Pogle?

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/01/2010 16:32

Did you find some driftwood with part of the boat's name on it, Pogle?

You're beginning to sound quite biblical, Treacle!

MCP everyone!

...It will be the death penalty if they catch me, I'm quite sure of it. But I'm very careful...

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 19/01/2010 17:38

Have been googling vaguely - you're not acting alone are you Moomin? (total guess emoticon)

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/01/2010 17:59

...in Berlin? I might be. Well done, Elephants!

No ideas on your one, though.

AIBU to think body parts are not meant to be detachable?

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 19/01/2010 18:18

Wait Moomin wait! I'm not sure I know it - would you be anticipating a lonely demise?

If so sounds like a fascinating read.

Pogle, you're not anticipating remarriage are you? Not sure that'd be a good idea just yet.

...Couldn't resist following Sexpot when he - true to form - tailed BF and her fancy man (ooooh!) into the woods. Unfortunately he told me to naff off again.

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/01/2010 19:06

...I will be if they catch me. But someone's got to speak out against this Hitler fellow...

Your one is sounding very racy, Elephants, and, alas, still completely mystifying.

MCP all!

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 19/01/2010 19:19

Hmm moomin, would most of your postcards be handed over the the authorities, do you reckon? Even if so, though, keep trying (someone has to).

...Tell you what, just as well I followed him, he's come over all peculiar and started chatting me up!!! Swoon Can't understand it but I certainly am enjoying it.

steamedtreaclesponge · 19/01/2010 21:25

...Ah, Elephants, I wouldn't go wandering around the woods in Midsummer - things are likely to get very confusing! I think somebody might be playing tricks on you...

steamedtreaclesponge · 19/01/2010 21:28

...But I suppose being unmarried is better than being married to someone unworthy - got to keep the family name up, after all...

MCP everyone else!

Pogleswood · 19/01/2010 21:29

Yep,Moomin ....fride..,it says.
I thought I might have been able to spin that out for a little longer,oh well!

Re:your detachable body parts, you've not met someone who is growing ears in a jar, have you?

More clues,Elephants please - yours seems to be disguised as a trashy period romance, whatever it is really...
CJ,whats happening with your sister in law?

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/01/2010 22:00

As in Surfrider, Pogle? You don't have a copy, do you?!

Ah, thanks to clever Treacle, I finally recognise your one, Elephants! It will all end happily and hey, at least you don't have to kiss a rude mechanical with a donkey's head.

And, yes, Alone in Berlin is fascinating reading, although not exactly cheerful. Definitely one for Polly!

Hmm, are you an old snob unable to live within his income, Treacle?

...I haven't seen any ears growing in jars but it would be a very good idea. I'm always afraid I'm going to lose a part for good. Especially with this dog following me around...

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 19/01/2010 22:43

Good one,Elephants!

I still feel that you and the ear grower may be inhabiting the same city,Moomin?

MCP,as usual!

CJCregg · 19/01/2010 23:08

As usual, I have not the faintest idea what any of you are talking about - although Treacle's is sounding annoyingly familiar.

My sister-in-law is lovely, she really is. She's a bit - well, irresponsible, flighty perhaps, but she's always there for me when it really matters.

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/01/2010 23:57

Bah, I'm no nearer on your SIL, CJ. But you do know Pogle's!

And I'm afraid we're not back in Ankh-Morpork, Pogle, but an Igor would be a very handy acquaintance for my character.

...I don't know what I would do without my wonderful grandmother. I'm sure I would have crumbled away into bits by now...

MCP and 'Night all!

OP posts:
pollywollydoodle · 20/01/2010 04:22

polly puts alone in berlin on her light summer reads list

now moomin, is there leprosy involved or is that not surreal enough?

others,mcp

steamedtreaclesponge · 20/01/2010 09:18

Are you dead, Moomin? Although I still can't think who you might be...

And yes, if being proud of one's station in life is being a snob, I suppose I must concede! As for the income question - well, I'm sure a short sejourn in Bath will sort things out!

CJ, is your SIL a bit of a bolter?

MCP everyone!

AIBU to never want to see another ship again in my life?
