To sleep in the garden tonight

My beautiful dog is going to be put down tomorrow. Shes in pain and the cool air and grown outside seems to offer some relief. She doesnt like to be alone. So I'm thinking about just sleeping in the garden to join her. But im aware that for one I'm grieving and thats clouding my judgement and for two I don't have the most clear judgement anyway.

I should add I'm a scout leader so I'm not afraid of the elements. Its dry and pretty temperate here tonight and I have a lovely double sleeping bag to cosy up in.

She's a beautiful girl. Spending the night outside with her is something that will hopefully give you comfort in the days ahead, knowing that you did this last thing for her in order to make her comfortable and content with you nearby. She's very lucky to have someone like you.

When our gorgeous pup was terminally ill, we took turns sleeping downstairs with her for her last week. You know what’s right.

Edit to add that we all cuddled up together on the floor with our beloved cat for his last night with us. I could see in his eyes that it mattered to him. That thought gives me some comfort x

Of course if that would be comforting for both of you then it’s the perfect solution.

My last night with my beautiful cat I slept with her even though she was stinky and bedraggled, we made her a (waterproof) nest between us and she cuddled and purred and we all slept well.

I’m sure if she was apart from me I’d have laid awake sad and worrying and feeling like I should have been checking on her.

She's beautiful and it will bring her comfort so spend the night under the stars with her. I'm so sorry for the situation you're in but she's clearly loved and happy and you've done that for her.

My Goldie is 12 and a half and struggling with life. I've only just learned paracetamol is good for dogs (the liquid sort) as well as joint meds.We stick together like glue from now on, she is always settling on my feet anyway!

Sleeping out of doors is healing -it aligns us with the elements and something greater than our smaller, indoor lives.
