My beautiful dog is going to be put down tomorrow. Shes in pain and the cool air and grown outside seems to offer some relief. She doesnt like to be alone. So I'm thinking about just sleeping in the garden to join her. But im aware that for one I'm grieving and thats clouding my judgement and for two I don't have the most clear judgement anyway.

I should add I'm a scout leader so I'm not afraid of the elements. Its dry and pretty temperate here tonight and I have a lovely double sleeping bag to cosy up in.

Aibdriven mad from grief or should I go for it?

I’m so sorry for the loss of your beautiful girl.

When our cat was PTS , the vet said she never knew a day when she wasn’t loved, and she was loved and held in her last moments , and a lot of humans don’t have that .

It stayed with me , as your memories of Star will always be with you.
Sending the biggest hug xx

Shes gone. Part of my soul is gone too.

I'm so so sorry for your loss. It's the worse pain and I miss my heart dogs years later. I understand what you mean about losing part of your soul, I feel that too. Know that you gave her the best life and she loved being part of your family. Take care of yourselves now and allow yourself to grieve.

purplecorkheart · 02/10/2026 18:03

I am so sorry for you and your family loss. Be kind to yourself over the next few days and know that your beautiful dog knew that ye all loved them.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my soul dog not long ago and it still hurts so much. If you are on Facebook I highly recommend Blue Cross Pet Loss Support Group it's such a lovely and supportive group.

Hello NotQuiteUsual. Just messaging to let you know that I hope you and your family are OK after losing Star last week. I just wanted to let you know that I'm thinking of you all. 🫂

NotQuiteUsual · 05/10/2026 10:57

Thank you @greylox we're doing ok. The kids seem to have gained a lot of closure for being there when she went to sleep and taking her to thr crematorium. They're doing ok, short fuses but its to he expected.

Me and DH are just crying at random things. I keep thinking I see her in the corner of my eye. Coming home sucks now there's no waggy tail to greet me. But we're doing ok. Stars ashes are with us now. Which brings some peace.

Hi, NotQuiteUsual. Thanks for replying. I'm pleased to hear you're all going on OK. Friends of ours lost their lovely boy back in the spring. They have super mementoes of him just like you do of Star and wonderful photos of him around the house. Glad you have Star's paw print. My friend said "No" to that originally but then changed her mind and she's so glad she did. I'm sure you'll continue to 'see' Star everywhere but I think that's part of the grieving process. Let those tears come too. That's quite OK. Thinking of you all. 💐

DoYouWantHalfThisSandwich · 05/10/2026 18:36

💐 @NotQuiteUsual I’m still thinking of you & your lovely family at this saddest of times. From your update, I am glad to see Star is home with you all ❤️ and that is a lovely strong paw print she’s left you with. When you’re ready in the future, there are some lovely companies out there that can make paw print jewellery. I had dog tag type chains made to carry 2 of mine close to my heart at all times. Just a thought if that is something you’d like to consider. Sending you more 🤗

ElsieJay · 05/10/2026 20:04

Thank you for the update, @NotQuiteUsual - love your memory corner for your beautiful Star.
I’m glad she’s home with you xx

Gobbledegoo · 05/10/2026 20:08

The day before our DearDoggie was PTS he went with our DS to the nearest seaside place with lots of Fish & Chip shops! He cleaned up the seafront of most food droppings, including ice cream, beer, hot dogs, chips, whatever his nose found! Apparently it was none too savory in the car journey home!

Blarn · 05/10/2026 20:10

I am not a dog person and I'd have slept outside with thst lovely girl. Flowers

FairViewRosie25 · 05/10/2026 21:27

I slept on the floor in the hall that last night with my Winnie. The next morning she walked the perimeter or ours and next doors gardens which are linked then stood by the car as if to say I’m ready dad. It broke my heart💔

FairViewRosie25 · 05/10/2026 21:33

Do it. Remember every cuddle

NotQuiteUsual · 15/10/2026 19:00

So bit of an update if anyone still remembers this thread. A rescue matched us with a dog. I asked Star for a sign it was the right thing to do and immediately found a ball of her fluff in my hand. Like she was giving us her blessing.

So we adopted Needle today. Shes a failed racing greyhound, she's the total opposite of Star. But it's lovely to have a dog in the house again. It hurts, we're feeling Stars absence more than ever. But we're also so in love with this beautiful girl. We didnt want to get another dog so soon, but when we met Needle we couldn't help but fall head over heels.

I’m so pleased for you. Good luck with Needle!

DoYouWantHalfThisSandwich · 15/10/2026 19:37

Oh, @NotQuiteUsual ! What a beautiful update! Needle looks like she’s settling in wonderfully. A true blessing from a Starr above 🩷 I know not everyone believes in signs, but I’m firmly of the belief that they do exist & this is one of the best examples I’ve ever seen! Bizarrely, I also asked for a sign earlier today about getting another dog & within 2 mins they started talking about dogs on the radio, & then I saw not 1, but 2 Frenchies! And now I’ve seen your update.

I hope Needle brings your family years & years of love, companionship & happiness. I know she’ll get the best home ever with you 💐

KTMeetsTheRsUptown · 15/10/2026 20:24

Acommonreader · 15/10/2026 21:13

hermioneJG · 15/10/2026 21:15

You truly sound like a lovely person, Needle is very lucky.

raspberrychocolatecake · 15/10/2026 21:32

I'm so glad Needle has found a home with you, she's a very lucky dog. She's beautiful and looks very relaxed already in her new home. I think Star had a part to play in Needle coming into your life at this time.

Elsvieta · 15/10/2026 21:55

I remember your beautiful Star. Needle has fallen on her feet x
