To sleep in the garden tonight

My beautiful dog is going to be put down tomorrow. Shes in pain and the cool air and grown outside seems to offer some relief. She doesnt like to be alone. So I'm thinking about just sleeping in the garden to join her. But im aware that for one I'm grieving and thats clouding my judgement and for two I don't have the most clear judgement anyway.

I should add I'm a scout leader so I'm not afraid of the elements. Its dry and pretty temperate here tonight and I have a lovely double sleeping bag to cosy up in.

My old dog has dementia and wakes up but can't get upstairs. Me and my dh tag team sleeping downstairs on the sofa with him. He's 16, and he deserves the company. Do it.

If I'd known my cat was going to stop eating in her final few days I would have got her all her favourite treats that were bad for her while she was still able to enjoy them. She loved a small spoon of McDonald's ice cream, and a couple of bits of doner meat when DH came in with a kebab. I would have given her all she could eat of both of them if I'd known the end was near. Make those last memories happy ones to look back on OP.

You do whatever helps your beautiful lady and yourself. If being outside helps you do it. Honestly this last night do what works best. Hope tomorrow is peaceful and pain free x

If you've got a bivvy bag or tarp or anything you can use to stop the dew setting on you directly, do think about using that as well.

Absolutely. It's only one night. If you'll be safe, it shouldn't hurt you to be out in the elements overnight, and if something changes, you can adjust your plans accordingly. You're doing the best you can.

Sympathy for what you're going through. We lost a much-loved dog a couple months ago, so it's still fresh in my memory how painful it all is. 💐

I slept on the floor in the hall cuddling my darling Winnie knowing it was her last night. She took herself off for a walk round the perimeter of ours and next doors gardens then got in the car for the final journey which was when my heart broke

I slept next to my lovely girl on her last night. I think she’d had a stroke - she could barely move but kept nudging my hand with her nose and sniffing me throughout the night. If she’d been comfortable on glass, I would have slept next to her there too.

Do it, she’s outside because this is what happens. They separate themselves from the pack as they now they are weaker now, it’s very sad. Our old staffy did this, I couldn’t get her inside

Absolutely, it's a lovely idea to spend a final night together, your presence will bring her peace, and you won't regret spending this time with her.
