To sleep in the garden tonight

My beautiful dog is going to be put down tomorrow. Shes in pain and the cool air and grown outside seems to offer some relief. She doesnt like to be alone. So I'm thinking about just sleeping in the garden to join her. But im aware that for one I'm grieving and thats clouding my judgement and for two I don't have the most clear judgement anyway.

I should add I'm a scout leader so I'm not afraid of the elements. Its dry and pretty temperate here tonight and I have a lovely double sleeping bag to cosy up in.

Aibdriven mad from grief or should I go for it?

It's the best thing you can do. I too have a tale of a deceased dog sending her replacement, such a weird series of coincidences, and the new pup turned out to be perfect for the role.

What wonderful news NotQuiteUsual. 😊 Needle will have such a super life with you. All the greyhounds I've met have been so gentle and calm. Good luck to you, Needle and your family. Have lots of cuddles. Star would be pleased, I'm sure. 🤗

Oh, what a lovely update. Lucky Needle, to have found such a loving home - and for you to have had a little sign from Star.

Greyhounds are great (my sibling has one). Be prepared for lots of snoozing, lots of exposing parts while relaxed and sleeping 😂. There are some great greyhound support communities out there, worth seeking them out. The two things I’ve heard are the “greyhound scream of death” which really translates to “ouch, a feather just punched me”. And they can be very prone to corns in their paw pads, so lots of advice out there how to manage re poultices and boots etc.

It is really lovely that you have a set of paws in your home again, thanks for updating 🐾💕

I'm so sorry for your loss.

You will love having a sighthound they are so lazy and gentle. And they have an excellent sense of humour!

Also, my dog is reactive to certain breeds. People don't believe me!

He hates Viszlas, German Shepherds, Weimaraners, and also, huskies!

A wonderful update! I’m trying to persuade a friend to get her 3rd rescue greyhound. She’s lost without him, despite how naughty he was. It’s a difficult situation, but never a replacement. We just make room in our hearts for another and it definitely helps us heal.

Mine hated bearded collies after being attacked by one. He hated all dogs after this despite thousands spent on rehabbing/training/everything we could get him. My current two were scared of flat faced dogs as puppies, I don’t think they realised what they were. It’s odd because they absolutely love all dogs.

That's a lovely update. Some things are just meant to be and she will help you through your grief Flowers

Thank you for your update OP.
What a lucky dog Needle is!

Great update, but just one point of order: "Shes a failed racing greyhound, she's the total opposite of Star."

I think you'll find she's actually a very successful racing greyhound because she gets to spend every cold winter night in the coming months in your warm living room rather than chasing a fake hare round a track.
