As long as it's replaced by the social care that's been promised

There is no way it will save enough money for that.

I think it should go. But it’s not going to fund a national care service.

JustWalnut · 30/09/2026 10:19

I wouldn't vote for Labour because they are irrelevant in Scotland. I think they should get rid of the triple lock but if it's to fund a care service in England, that's of no consequence to me.

strangerontheinternet · 30/09/2026 10:20

Don’t give a shit about triple lock but will never ever vote labour in my lifetime. Ruined the country and continuing.

Maybe it will, maybe it won't. The figures have not been released as yet

But discussing going from a triple to a double lock, without mentioning the social care change, seems to be a little disingenuous to me

Essentially, we're cutting x to help pay for y. Then asking if cutting x is OK without mentioning y is somewhat dishonest

Bushmillsbabe · 30/09/2026 10:23

Yes I am OK with removing triple lock, but no Labour doing this wouldn't make me vote for them, I voted for them last time, never again

Dontrinsemince · 30/09/2026 10:26

It's not significant enough to swing my vote. Pensions will still increase annually and I support that. I need to see what they are going to do with welfare and benefits - that could be a swing thing for me.

I will be voting on how they've performed between now and the election and I'll also be studying as hard as I can to work out if they can actually get enough money together to deliver all of these promises.

dustabsorber · 30/09/2026 10:26

Not unless they reinstate the 2 child benefit cap, plus restrict benefits for immigrants. They won't do either so no. Kemi is the one for me.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 30/09/2026 10:28

With the inevitable population crisis the triple lock is unsustainable. But I don’t see myself voting for labour unless they actually do something about the currently nonexistent social care system.

That's what the plan is. Whether it's feasible or not is the question

dustabsorber · 30/09/2026 10:31

The Triple Lock won't affect current pensioners that much, we have already got our snouts in the trough. It's the people on here who have been baying for the end of the Triple Lock who will be hit as the pension shrinks away. HAA HAA.

As long as it's replaced by the social care that's been promised

While his proposed reform is likely to reduce public spending on pensions, analysts say it would be unlikely to save enough money between 2030 and 2040 to pay for comprehensive social care reform.

I'm just going to assume no, they're not going to offer anything as actually they've so screwed the economy up and can't see that unless the economy is encouraged to grow it's all going really badly wrong.

A senior man sat down speaking to a younger adult wearing a lanyard and holding a tablet.

Will reforming the triple lock pay for social care reform?

Burnham said he wants to change the pensions triple lock from 2030 to pay for his social care reform, but analysts have questioned whether it will raise enough money.

What benefits do you think immigrants get?

dustabsorber · 30/09/2026 10:35

Now certain on here will start demanding that the state pension be means tested. Again that won't affect current pensioners. So carry on older bashing, it's you who will suffer not us.

I’m in my 30s and am saving for retirement on the assumption that there will be no universal pension by the time I reach retirement age. So if I get there and it’s a universal pension with a double lock rather than a triple lock, that’s a win for me.

But how will it not affect current pensioners? It will, in some years, mean pensions won’t go up as much as they would if the triple lock had been kept. That seems like a fairly obvious effect on current pensioners (or at least pensioners from 2030 onwards).

dustabsorber · 30/09/2026 10:36

Edited

I meant UC 2 child cap.

dustabsorber · 30/09/2026 10:36

Yes, I realised that, so I edited my question. What benefits for immigrants do you object to?

Sky1ark · 30/09/2026 10:37

Absolutely. So glad we’ve finally got a prime minister who does the right thing and what’s best for the country as opposed to one who only cares about keeping backbenchers happy- looking at you Tories and why we’re in this mess.

Seriously Kemi is that all you’ve got!🙄

5128gap · 30/09/2026 10:37

I favour Burnham's statement that income would be raised from those 'with the broadest shoulders'. I'd be disappointed to see a sweeping reduction in income for all pensioners introduced without this being explored. Just as I don't want to see less money in ordinary people's pockets without looking at wealth and asset taxes.
I'd be very surprised if it swung my vote though, as the alternatives to Labour dont bear thinking about.

DebbieSavage · 30/09/2026 10:38

No I wholeheartedly agree with that decision. What we really need to get rid of are pubs with far right black labradors in them, if they even existed in the first place which thankfully, I have been assured do not actually exist.

Get that on the manifesto please.

Biker47 · 30/09/2026 10:39

I'd rather shit in my own hands and clap than vote Labour, but I do agree with scrapping the triple lock.

Eviebeans · 30/09/2026 10:42

Wouldn’t vote Labour

RosieandRobin · 30/09/2026 10:42

I am ok with them removing it as long as we have a proper welfare benefits reform. Those that are abusing it must be stopped whilst we help those genuinely in need. The system at the moment is not fit for purpose. Benefits should only be a temporary measure for the majority.

RosieandRobin · 30/09/2026 10:43

But I wouldn’t vote labour anyway
