Hi everyone so I got a coil swap over last week. From the mirena to the Kyleena. They told me to abstain from sex for 7 days or use condoms. But we did not once. This was last Tuesday I got the coil swap over. And I had sex the Saturday the few days before. I done a pregnancy test today and I swear I see a second line! But would a pregnancy test show up this early on?! HELP

Pregnancy will show only when you are 4-5 weeks, not less than a week later. There have been women who got pregnant with the coil so that is a possibility but it is minimal.

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 19/08/2026 11:13

I can see a faint line. Looks positive to me 🤷🏻‍♀️

You’re incorrect. Pregnancy caN show 8/9 post ovulation, so in theory just a week over when you conceived. The 4/5 week thing is based on date of last period.

onmylastnerveseriously · 19/08/2026 11:16

8/9 days post ovulation

60degreecycle · 19/08/2026 11:17

When you say The Saturday, how many days ago from today was that, and where are you in your cycle?

onmylastnerveseriously · 19/08/2026 11:17

HOW soon did line appear Op? What prompted you to test?

DerangedBillionaire · 19/08/2026 11:17

It does look positive.
I thought fitting a coil was one way of ending an unwanted pregnancy early on?

You need to book at speak with a HCP today, they can advise way better than MN.

I have no idea my periods are so fucked up I’ve had the coil for ages but then I got a replacement last week! On Tuesday around 2pm. And the last time I had unprotected sex was the Saturday night before that. But I got a straight coil swap over but the nurse did say to me to use protection for 7 days as the coil does not work for 7 days ? We did not. We stupidly had sex. Like every day. So it is my own fault. And it took like 3-5 mins for a line to appear

It could show this early. It's over a week since you did the deed. But I can't see if that's a line TBH. Get one that spells it out for you and uses "pregnant" or "not pregnant". Make sure you do it first thing in the morning. This could easily just be an evaporation mark. Best of luck OP.

I got a new coil though and they did tell me to use other method of contraception for 7 days and I did not

Those are not as Sensitive and could easily give op a false negative at this stage.
The cheapie tests are the most sensitive usually.

H202too · 19/08/2026 11:23

Breathe, go out and get another one. Then calmly give yourself time and decide on the way forward.

Gazelda · 19/08/2026 11:27

So you had sex on Saturday, with the original coil still fitted?
and the swapped to a new coil on Tuesday?

if I’m understanding correctly, then surely you were protected by the original coil.

Yep you’re right! But apparently the new coil takes 7 days to work. She gave me condoms and said there’s a small chance of pregnancy because apparently when you get a new coil fitted it takes 7 days to work ..🙈

The cheap ones (the 20 for £5) ones from Amazon are in my (and lots of friends) experience, the most sensitive and reliable. All my pregnancies showed (strong, clear) positive tests with those around 10 days post ovulation. I'd suggest getting yourself some and trying first thing in the morning.

Whatever the result, breathe. You have time and options. It will be ok.

Thank you! I do have a boyfriend but we haven’t been together that long. 8 months. So was not planned

you’ve found out early enough to give you time to get your head around whatever you want to do next. I’m sorry you’re in this position.

Yes🙈 one time it was 3 times in one day 🙈 so I’m not surprised it’s positive tbh haha. Sorry for the tmi

RubyHiker · 19/08/2026 11:55

it does look positive, but it also sounds like you were trying to get pregnant if you couldn't manage a week of condoms
