Hi everyone so I got a coil swap over last week. From the mirena to the Kyleena. They told me to abstain from sex for 7 days or use condoms. But we did not once. This was last Tuesday I got the coil swap over. And I had sex the Saturday the few days before. I done a pregnancy test today and I swear I see a second line! But would a pregnancy test show up this early on?! HELP

Cause I’m human and sometimes we are silly

Or on some level you wanted to get pregnant...........?

The vast majority of women manage to not get pregnant when they don't want to. 'Accidental pregnancies' are vanishingly rare in 2026.

I’m trying to understand why you’d do something that you’d been told not to by a medical professional.

She obviously wanted to risk getting pregnant. Medical professional advised her what to do if she didn’t want to get pregnant, it’s not a law

Blankscreen · 19/08/2026 13:17

I can't work out if you are happy or sad to be pregnant. To me it looks positive.

I don't get why you'd have unprotected sex when specifically warned against it for 7 days?

I don't want to alarm you, but I can see a line on the one you just posted at 12.59, but you say it's negative?
It's probably too early to test tbh most women wait two weeks before testing. I understand you want to know for certain now though.
Your GP will probably tell you to wait a week and do another test. I don't know exactly what they'll advise if you are pregnant, but it is extremely dangerous to be pregnant with a coil in - risk of ectopic & risk to the baby if it does implant. So please seek medical advice.

How about women helping themselves by avoiding completely avoidable situations like this?

ElliePhant28 · 19/08/2026 13:24

I still don’t follow the timeline @tanya9995 You had a coil in. On Saturday 8 Aug you had sex. On Tuesday 11 Aug you got a new coil fitted, so from Tuesday 11 Aug it’s risky for 7 days (risky till today). When did all this “unprotected” sex happen?

No it’s not misogynistic. It’s because there’s a risk to the baby getting pregnant on the coil. And it’s pretty stupid to risk that - if you want to be pregnant get the coil out first.

It does look positive.
I thought fitting a coil was one way of ending an unwanted pregnancy early on?

You need to book at speak with a HCP today, they can advise way better than MN.

The coil can be fitted as emergency contraception after unprotected sex (as it can prevent fertilisation) but it's not used to end a pregnancy when conception has already occurred.

1985goingbackagain · 19/08/2026 13:28

tanya9995 · 19/08/2026 11:21

I got a new coil though and they did tell me to use other method of contraception for 7 days and I did not

Did they say 7 days after the new coil was fitted though? Apologies if I’ve misunderstood but I thought you meant you had unprotected sex before the change over.

Lmnop22 · 19/08/2026 13:30

tanya9995 · 19/08/2026 11:29

Yep you’re right! But apparently the new coil takes 7 days to work. She gave me condoms and said there’s a small chance of pregnancy because apparently when you get a new coil fitted it takes 7 days to work ..🙈

But then surely the new coil was only fitted on Tuesday so would only have been ineffective until yesterday.

If you’ve had sex between last Tuesday and yesterday, it is very unlikely that you would have a positive pregnancy test today since it’s been a maximum of 7 days since you would have conceived.

I hope you get the result you want and learn your lesson to abstain or get condoms when advised you’re fertile!

OK so if you had unprotected sex on the Saturday and went to have the coil changed three days later on the Tuesday, then person fitting it has to ask you if you have had unprotected sex within the last 7 days, as they have to make sure there would be no chance of pregnancy when the coil was fitted.

If you'd answered yes, then they would have not fitted the coil, so either you lied, or she forgot to ask which would be medical negligence.

The condoms are for the 7 days afterwards, but you should have told her you'd had unprotected sex in the days leading up to the fitting so the date could have been rearranged.

It’s not misogyny to call out women who don’t help themselves by playing games. It’s a human life that’s been created.

Thr33lions · 19/08/2026 13:35

Dare I ask if you checked the one you took this morning within the advised timeframe to look at it? Or did you leave it and come back much later?

A second line has always appeared on mine hours later despite being very much not pregnant.

The one you say is negative is positive unless you checked it after the time. If it's negative the second box is completely blank.

MaggieBsBoat · 19/08/2026 13:38

Looks negative to me! Take another in a few days if you are still worried.

Because the sperm hang around and the new coil isn’t effective right away?

I'm not sure what misogyny you're talking about. OP, despite the protests clearly wanted to get pregnant. We don't help women by feeding into nonsense. If you have unprotected sex - after clearly being told not to - several times iin a short period, ncluding 3 times in one day, you run the risk of getting pregnant. The nurse even gave OP a packet of condoms, so she doesn't even have that excuse. What she did is fine, but the fake 'OMG help I might be pregnant' under the circumstances, is ridiculous.

Mulledjuice · 19/08/2026 13:39

MrsSlocombesCat · 19/08/2026 12:43

Actually frequent sex means you are less likely to be pregnant than if you did it once or twice. If you are pregnant, it's more likely to be a girl.

Where do you get that from??

It’s very confusing written but it seems that they’ve had unprecedented sex daily (or more) since the coil was changed - during the seven days before the coil offers protection.
