Hi everyone so I got a coil swap over last week. From the mirena to the Kyleena. They told me to abstain from sex for 7 days or use condoms. But we did not once. This was last Tuesday I got the coil swap over. And I had sex the Saturday the few days before. I done a pregnancy test today and I swear I see a second line! But would a pregnancy test show up this early on?! HELP

I’d wait a couple of days and test again first thing in the morning.

tanya9995 · 19/08/2026 11:21

I got a new coil though and they did tell me to use other method of contraception for 7 days and I did not

I believe this is a case of FAFO.

Deadleaves77 · 19/08/2026 11:59

So you've had unprotected sex frequently since Tuesday?

Look there is a chance you could be pregnant even if that test is negative, it can take 7 days for the copper coil to be fully effective although. There is a faint line on the test but it could be an evaporation line. I would retest but I also think you need to speak to a HCP, if you've had unprotected sex in the last week it won't show on a test yet

DerangedBillionaire · 19/08/2026 11:17

It does look positive.
I thought fitting a coil was one way of ending an unwanted pregnancy early on?

You need to book at speak with a HCP today, they can advise way better than MN.

You can still get pregnant with a coil. Unfortunately it does increase the risk of ectopic pregnancy as well.

dairydebris · 19/08/2026 12:02

You couldnt really have done much more if you were trying to get pregnant...

I'd be straight to GP as you have a coil fitted.

Watchoutfortheslowaraf · 19/08/2026 12:02

Why did you have so much unprotected sex when you were told it could lead to pregnancy? I’m not sure why you’re surprised you might be pregnant. It does look positive to me

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 19/08/2026 12:04

It does look like a faint positive to me. Because you have a coil I would discuss urgently with GP…

Anarchy99 · 19/08/2026 12:07

So you didn’t follow the instructions? FWIW I can’t see a line but obviously you have had unprotected sex so it’s quite possible.

What’s fafo

It does look like a faint line to me. With my first the line was as dark as can be but my second was very light. Tested again a few days later still quite faint. Didn’t quite believe it til I had a scan at 9 weeks! She’s 21 now!

I don’t think I’d have the heart to have an abortion aswell

Women don't have abortions because they have the heart to. They have them as part of responsible decision making

Fuck Around Find Out

In your case literally.
Bit silly to be so afraid you're pregnant having failed to follow the guidance against getting pregnant so thoroughly.......

Bingbangboo · 19/08/2026 12:13

That's definitely a positive test. You don't have to decide anything today, but seeking medical advice would be a good idea, given the coil.

TheGoldenOwl · 19/08/2026 12:14

Fuck around and find out

I.e. you didnt follow instructions and have found out what happens when you do that

Retest. Slow down. Speak to GP.

Trivialpursuits · 19/08/2026 12:19

You need to go and speak to your gp. Why didn’t you use contraception for the 7 days you were told to?

Anarchy99 · 19/08/2026 12:25

tanya9995 · 19/08/2026 11:32

Thank you! I do have a boyfriend but we haven’t been together that long. 8 months. So was not planned

Having unsafe sex means it was planned on some level 🤷‍♀️

Pinkflamingo10 · 19/08/2026 12:26

It sounds like you both wouldn’t mind a pregnancy if you both had unprotected sex a few times a day every day before and after the coil change ?

Youhadrambledonfor18pages · 19/08/2026 12:28

tanya9995 · 19/08/2026 11:21

I have no idea my periods are so fucked up I’ve had the coil for ages but then I got a replacement last week! On Tuesday around 2pm. And the last time I had unprotected sex was the Saturday night before that. But I got a straight coil swap over but the nurse did say to me to use protection for 7 days as the coil does not work for 7 days ? We did not. We stupidly had sex. Like every day. So it is my own fault. And it took like 3-5 mins for a line to appear

No one but yourself to blame then.

OneQuirkyPanda · 19/08/2026 12:29

I actually don’t think that’s positive, it looks faulty to me, the test window appears to be flooded, if you look closely there isn't a clear line, 2/3 of the test window is darker than the remaining 1/3.

Anarchy99 · 19/08/2026 12:36

tanya9995 · 19/08/2026 11:49

I don’t think I’d have the heart to have an abortion aswell

Then do another test and prepare to have a very awkward convo with your boyfriend…

Bluetray · 19/08/2026 12:40

Think long and hard before you go ahead with a pregnancy with someone you met 5 minutes ago.
So many women get left holding the baby 100%.
Is that what you want?

Doctordoolittle · 19/08/2026 12:42

tanya9995 · 19/08/2026 11:53

Yes🙈 one time it was 3 times in one day 🙈 so I’m not surprised it’s positive tbh haha. Sorry for the tmi

Yes it looks positive.

Given you were told to use condoms for that time and you deliberately had sex multiple times without doing so… did you want to get pregnant? Did your partner know you had been told to use condoms in the gap?

MrsSlocombesCat · 19/08/2026 12:43

Actually frequent sex means you are less likely to be pregnant than if you did it once or twice. If you are pregnant, it's more likely to be a girl.

Jerrybalanitis · 19/08/2026 12:49

What a nice set of responses. Some of dont have to automatically default to bitch on every thread. Show some respect for others, OP isnt exactly unique in this situation, most of us have taken chances. Most get away with it but it doesnt make us superior.

Things usually work out ok in the end, dont let these harpies belittle you. 🩵
