Hi everyone so I got a coil swap over last week. From the mirena to the Kyleena. They told me to abstain from sex for 7 days or use condoms. But we did not once. This was last Tuesday I got the coil swap over. And I had sex the Saturday the few days before. I done a pregnancy test today and I swear I see a second line! But would a pregnancy test show up this early on?! HELP

If you decide to go ahead with a coil fitting, your doctor will want to make sure that you’re not pregnant. So, you will need do the following.

  • Make sure you’re using any current contraception correctly.
  • If you already have a coil, you should not have unprotected sex 7 days before the fitting.
  • If you’re not using any contraception, you can only be fitted within the first 5 days of your cycle or if you haven’t had sex since your last period.
  • If you have a coil or implant that’s out of date, don’t have sex, or if you do use a condom. You’ll likely need to wait 21 days since the last time you had unprotected sex before the coil can be fitted.

Cause I’m human and sometimes we are silly

I think you are being judged more harshly because your title implies it was completely unexpected and now you're asking for help.
Of course we are human and make bad decisions, but this wasn't just once, it was multiple times. You are coming across as immature and irresponsible and I'm afraid, when it comes to bringing children into the world, people do have strong feelings.

Overwhelmedandtired · 19/08/2026 13:44

I believe the morning wee is more concentrated (as you haven't drunk overnight), so it may be that the later in the day ones are too diluted for now to show. I think the morning one would be most accurate. Particularly considering you would be very early stages so the hormones being tested for will be on the lower side just now. The further along you are, and the more hormones you have, the stronger the line gets. I have usually been asked for a morning wee when providing a sample for various tests (not specifically pregnancy)

Caveating with, not a medical professional or expert and my first pregnancy took til 8 weeks to get a positive test!! Hope you find out soon and are able to manage through whatever the result.

It's a bit late for this.

Too late for the OP, not for the other posters who were confused.

BIWI · 19/08/2026 13:46

Was there a reason you didn't use condoms? I can understand once, in the 'heat of passion'. But for the rest of the times you had sex, why didn't you? Does your boyfriend know that you were advised to use condoms?

So many questions.

The Misogyny on mumsnet is pretty ugly to watch

What about women helping women?

Hope it works out how it’s supposed to OP. Look after yourself

Disagreeing with this woman's choice doesn't make us misogynistic.
What does OP want help with?

tanya9995 · 19/08/2026 13:47

I think it’s impossible though for a test to show up 7/8 days later positive ? Does it not take 3/4 weeks?! To show even a faint positive

Lovemycat2023 · 19/08/2026 13:37

But why was it unprotected on Saturday if the OP had a coil in? Why wasn’t that protected sex?

Because sperm live for up to 5 days, so if they were released Saturday, they could still be living by Thursday. When the coil was changed on Tuesday, that meant if any sperm were still "roaming round", there would be no coil protection so could result in a pregnancy.

This is why they always ask when they fit a coil if you've had unprotected sex in the last 7 days.

Nope it wasn’t planned but I do take full responsible for bein stupid and not using condoms but I’m not the only one on the earth that this has happened to. I think I’m gettin judged harshly

Oh come off it! I don't care whether you're pregnant or not but don't start whingeing now. You didn't do as you were instructed. You were even given the wherewithal for goodness sake; you didn't even have to nip out to the shops! If you can't behave like a normal person, don't expect people not to comment about it when you've posted on a public forum.
As for not being the only one it's happened to, I assume you mean accidental pregnancy. But your situation isn't really that, is it? In fact, you seem to have worked quite hard to make it happen. I only hope your partner is on board.

Candleabra · 19/08/2026 13:49

Though I think I’d stop testing today and do one tomorrow morning first thing

Zypig · 19/08/2026 13:51

Hi Op, I’m usually on MN hanging out in the infertility forums where we have A LOT of line eye posts, and frankly are damn experts at which tests work when! We also have a pretty good handle on when you can/can’t get a line on a pregnancy test because we know exactly the time an embryo was put back, exactly the time we ovulated (egg collection) etc. The earliest I’ve seen it picked up (including my own test) is the equivalent to 10 days post ovulation and the most accurate tests tend to be ‘First response’s early response’ test. Although the cheap Amazon ones someone else mentioned are pretty good.

so in short - yes you can absolutely see a line this early. If you want a solid answer you could go get a HCG blood test. Hope you’re OK whatever this means for you.

It can be positive this early.

It certainly doesn't take three to four weeks.

MrsSlocombesCat · 19/08/2026 12:43

Actually frequent sex means you are less likely to be pregnant than if you did it once or twice. If you are pregnant, it's more likely to be a girl.

Why?

tanya9995 · 19/08/2026 13:55

Thr33lions · 19/08/2026 13:35

Dare I ask if you checked the one you took this morning within the advised timeframe to look at it? Or did you leave it and come back much later?

A second line has always appeared on mine hours later despite being very much not pregnant.

After a few minutes it came up

Loub1987 · 19/08/2026 14:00

From my experience (when I was actively trying to get pregnant, so doing loads of tests etc), when it’s very early in the pregnancy, first morning urine will pick up on the hormones. Later in the day it might not, when you have drunk water etc and the urine is diluted.

Sorry you’ve had a shock @tanya9995 and anyone can make a mistake like this. Check again tomorrow, first thing and see.

I must say though when I hold the test up to the light. At a window I don’t see anything ? It’s only when I lay it flat

I am so fascinated by this thread I'm sticking around until we get an answer.
I was surprised by your lack of self control I must be honest. We are all human is not an answer. Humans are given freedom of choice. You need to remember you play with snakes...they bite.

D1nnerthyme · 19/08/2026 14:10

Cheese55 · 19/08/2026 13:54

Why?

Not the PP but having sex multiple times a day depletes the sperm so if you are trying to conceive the recommendation is every other day and definitely no more than once a day. With regards to more likely to be a girl I'm not sure in this context but there's the Shettles method which says that sperm that turns into girls lives longer and sperm that turns into boys swims faster so having sex close to ovulation is more likely to produce a boy and multiple days before ovulation more likely to produce a girl (though I don't think it was backed up by any studies).

What a nice set of responses. Some of dont have to automatically default to bitch on every thread. Show some respect for others, OP isnt exactly unique in this situation, most of us have taken chances. Most get away with it but it doesnt make us superior.
