Hi everyone so I got a coil swap over last week. From the mirena to the Kyleena. They told me to abstain from sex for 7 days or use condoms. But we did not once. This was last Tuesday I got the coil swap over. And I had sex the Saturday the few days before. I done a pregnancy test today and I swear I see a second line! But would a pregnancy test show up this early on?! HELP

The Misogyny on mumsnet is pretty ugly to watch

What about women helping women?

Hope it works out how it’s supposed to OP. Look after yourself

Misogyny where exactly?

I think a lot of women are reading this and thinking, well you were given a clear instruction, decided to completely ignore it, and are now panicking that you're pregnant. Which is frankly fucking dumb.

But it's not misogyny.

Actually, thinking that women should be as stupid and irresponsible as they want and STILL be unquestioningly supported by other women is quite misogynistic to those other women. Because after all, what are women for other than to be supporters?

There are plenty of posts on MN citing misogyny when in reality they just don't agree with the OP or give the OP harsh facts.
It's not misogynistic to point out that she was foolish to go against medical advice.

Yes it's the responsibility of both partners to take precautions but do we know that the boyfriend had been advised that they should be using condoms? Have I missed that bit?

I’m trying to understand why you’d do something that you’d been told not to by a medical professional.

come on, you're just being nasty.

Medical professional: 'Use condoms for the next 7 days'

OP: has sex daily for a week - including thrice one day!

Willful studipity at work.

Like I said, nasty. And now you've just reinforced it.

Bigcat25 · 19/08/2026 15:14

Please stop giving op a hard time, it doesn't help anything! Getting pregnant with a new coil probably would have been presented and understood as low probability, as it is a lower probability situation.

It's not nasty. They're just saying what we're all thinking.

You see 'nasty'.

I see 'willful stupidity' resulting in unwanted pregnancy.

TBH, I'm struggling to understand why the OP even bothered getting the IUD replaced because it's not as though preventing pregnancy was a priority given her actions following the replacement.

No I’m genuinely trying to understand.

im autistic and I wouldn’t have done it and I don’t understand why you’d would.

Edited

There's no "probably" about it as OP has told us how it was presented:

"but the nurse did say to me to use protection for 7 days as the coil does not work for 7 days "

LondonLass2026 · 19/08/2026 15:29

So you refused to use contraception as advised, and are now crying and panicking?

I don't know. You need to make your choice if it's positive. You didn't do much to protect yourself.

VickyEadie · 19/08/2026 15:34

MrsSlocombesCat · 19/08/2026 12:43

Actually frequent sex means you are less likely to be pregnant than if you did it once or twice. If you are pregnant, it's more likely to be a girl.

Eh?

It's called taking a risk because the probability was so low. It's not that hard to understand.

Most people don’t take such risks when the stakes are so high - an unplanned pregnancy.

Doesn't sound as though OP has much of a talent for risk analysis or following instructions for that matter.

sittingonabeach · 19/08/2026 15:48

In reasonably new relationship where a pregnancy is not wanted I would be doubling up on contraception, not ignoring contraception altogether

Gemilo · 19/08/2026 15:48

tanya9995 · 19/08/2026 11:53

Yes🙈 one time it was 3 times in one day 🙈 so I’m not surprised it’s positive tbh haha. Sorry for the tmi

Hard to feel sympathetic to be honest.

Joliefolie · 19/08/2026 15:48

As said by a pp, the OP must have been dishonest with the nurse about having had unprotected sex in the 7 days before the coil fitting, and then continued to have unprotected sex on multiple occasions during the 7 days after the coil fitting. There's no need to be harsh, I genuinely wish the OP well, but there's also no need to indulge the 'silly me', oh dear whoops narrative. Hopefully this will all work out for the best for everyone involved.

Strongopiniononaboutprettymucheverything · 19/08/2026 15:40

OP couldn't be bothered either, until now.
